I don't think this description really engages with the economics involved. User shop items are bought up quickly around reset time because that's when they're priced below the value of Recycle Points. People don't "forget about" visiting later on; they just decline to buy above 6-7k sP/RP because above that is the smelter (and about half of Recycle Shop items run below smelter prices).
Importantly, one motivated buyer can drive an item's price up several thousand sP in a few minutes. I am willing to bet that a few people will be dedicated enough to sit on, and catch, random Recycle Beast resets. Why? Because high-value main shop items, newer Subeautique releases, and Blackheart Hollow restocks—all of which are also random—all go fast. Since prices can go up so quickly, making reset times random won't meaningfully lengthen the period during which Recycle Points can be bought at a bargain; it'll just make it more difficult to participate while it lasts. Recycling profitably becomes harder, not easier.
People who recycle from their vaults are not affected by daily price movements and would not benefit from this change even if it did what it is intended to do.
Those are all excellent reasons to increase or stagger the resets, but not to make them random (particularly without notice).
I hope you do. Thanks for the response.
Pretty sure this is the real problem with the RB is that there is a built in work around that is very reasonably priced compared to actually recycling items, and it even gets more efficient the more sp you throw at it.

i'm really happy to see this change, i think it'll help with certain bad acts and a certain bad actor 😇 but i still wish that when you blocked someone on subeta it would stop them from interacting with your account at all, aka buying from your shops. i think that's the only way to stop people that deliberately undercut to catch items priced by the auto pricer.
This was my first thought as well.
I'm alright with the change, partially because I'm not a huge RC person and maybe I'll check in more now that I have a chance to catch different items throughout the day.
But I really think some sort of way to display the time it last reset is needed. With it being at a set time, I know that at 1PM, I'm not at risk of things suddenly resetting at 1:01PM when I empty my vault or buy a few items to turn in. If the time of last reset is displayed after a random reset, we'd know we had at least that hour of cushion time after to get items out of my vault or buy a batch to turn in.
This is something I've always wanted but never thought it would be done, so thank you so so very much!
I second displaying the time of the next update. The disadvantage of the old system is that either you could normally be on at midnight or you couldn't, benefiting just a few users, and always the same batch somewhat. However, knowing exactly when it was going to reset helped one's planning and organisation, so those that had the chance to catch the reset were all on the same boat. BHH, Token Shop etc. depend a lot on being lucky to be on the right place at the right time and I don't want the RB to take a similar path. For years people could leisurely check it at midnight knowing it would update then buy and turn in things without a care in the world and I would like the same convenience for those that, for all these years, couldn't get to enjoy a freshly refreshed RB.
The Recycle Beast is refreshing every few seconds. Is this for testing or is it broken?
I like the randomness, people who have odd schedules or are in drastically different time zones will have better odds now. But I do also agree it would be good if there was a way to know when the next reset will happen. If not a timer on the beast's page then maybe a notification like there is for a lot of other timed things on the site.
Dang. Recycle beast changed so quickly that by the time I got some items he didn't want them anymore...multiple times in the span of a few minutes. :(
Exactly the problem I had before. Bought items, and immediately the Recycle Beast changed. This isn't a good "feature" to have implemented.

Recycling beast changes too often to even give an item to him 20 changes in 3 minutes is too much I will hold on my items till it eases up I already spent too much that I now can't use This change makes it harder
Thank you for buying from my shops
What i sell goes towards minions
so thank you very much :)
3 minions to go[/b]
Yeah I think it’s not working as intended right now, I’ve seen 5 different sets of items in the last hour (several for sure were only minutes apart), and that’s just the switches I’ve seen. And it’s asking for items that are probably unintentional such as Gelatin Concoction, Twisted Keeper Focus which has none in shops/trades, and one of the Vevi Kit items.
I also came across the issue of seeing a set of items, going to my vault to remove the ones I had, and when clicking to turn them in they’d switched over in the span of a minute. So I def support displaying the time until the next switch or even just a 5-10 min warning! I like the change to a random system overall though, just need to iron out the kinks!
Every time I reload the page it asks for different items. That doesn't work. As soon as I collect the items, even when it's from my own vault, I can't hand them in any more.
I go to remove all the needed items he is asking for, and by the time I refresh the page, he has changed items! WAY TOO QUICK OF A CHANGE.....I am talking like 30 seconds of a time change. :O
Looks like it's resetting every minute right now (literally within the first 5 seconds of each minute) :( (just long enough for me to buy lots of items, then head back to the recycle beast.... and for him to no longer be asking for any of them!)
I'm guessing he's got whatever problem the weekend quests had yesterday, where it all got a little too eager to reset??

While I am all for giving different people in different timezones a fair chance at this by randomizing the times, it's a bit too much right now XD But once this gets fixed and it's at 'twice in a twenty-four hour period" I also second the suggestion to ad a timer. I'd hate to leave for a minute to buy some items or get them out of my vault, only to come back and have a whole new set of items.
Reading some of the comments, I do agree that a timer would be a good idea. For years the people who lived in a convenient time zone for the midnight reset had the ease of being there when it reset and having all the time in the world to do what they wanted. If this is to make it more fair on those in other time zones, the best thing would be to give those people the same advantage the other people had for years, aka, knowing when the reset happened and checking right at reset time.
The items are going to be bought up instantly at reset anyway, whether it's known or not. All it takes is one or two people getting lucky and checking the RB at the right time and the prices are inflated again. At least if the reset time is known, it's not dependant on luck and everyone has the same opportunity. You can plan and schedule like the midnight reset people could for all those years. And if people are scared of it resetting while they're buying the items, people simply won't recycle items anymore. The risk would be too great. Which would be counterproductive to the item sink function the RB has.
Also I guess I misunderstood and assumed the midnight reset would still be happening on top of the random resets, which I guess isn't the case and the midnight reset is gone entirely. Good to know.
Though it seems very wonky now from what I've read... :x
I agree with others (especially at the top of the page): having a reset more frequently than once a day is a very good change, but having the change happen completely at random, without a warning/timer, is not a good idea. Also, I checked: currently the items change every minute, as the minute changes.
