1) Tips you have for fish/aquarium care! Plant a live plant, such as Hornwort, to increase oxygen levels which in turn improves the living conditions for your fish. Do not overfeed and keep the water clean by changing it regularily.
2. If you could realistically have a sea animal as a pet, which would you choose and why? I would love a dolphin - they are so intelligent, curious and easy to train. (Not to mention they are adorable!)
3. Aquatic-themed joke! Two fish swam into a concrete wall. One turns to the other and says “Dam!”
- What is your favorite Aqua or Hydrus pet and why?
the Hydrus Kerubi because i just love the sassy facial expression and the lil starfish
- What do you think mermaids would be like if they were real? i always imagine them as the more evil version of the legend, beautiful singing sirens who lure sailors to their death lol
- If you could realistically have a sea animal as a pet, which would you choose and why? i would loooove a seal, mostly because they have cute puppy faces and seem really snuggly hehe
thank you for the fun giveaway! ❤
- Tell us about your first "childhood first fish gone wrong" situation. So many of us have one! Ok this isnt MINE it's my brother's. But he had a goldfish. He fed it regularly. Frequently. And the fish would just...keep eating. And eating. And eating...The poor thing got so full of food it looked like a beanie baby. Like you could almost see the fish flakes in its belly!! He lived just fine, but he was the roundest (not biggest, just rounded) fish I've ever seen. Mind you I was like, 6. But it was still really round.
- Favourite kind of sea/ocean/lake creature and why? (can be a myth or legend) I LOVE WHALE SHARKS SO MUCH THEY ARE BIG BABIES THAT GO OOOOOOO WITH THEIR BIG OL MOUTHS AND I WANT TO KISS THEM. I even have a cw designed after them but I havent finished it

- Do you have a favorite movie/book/game about a sea creature or undersea world? Tell us about it! I love Where the Drowned Girls Go which is a book in a series about humans ending up in magical worlds and returning. A girl ends up turning into a mermaid in an undersea world, returns, and struggles with the loss of her new home. It's rather dark but the prose is beautiful, and all about how important dreaming and magic in the world is for mental health
Tell us about your first "childhood first fish gone wrong" situation. So many of us have one! As a result of me being a 7 or 8 year old, I didn't clean my fish tank often enough and my first beta fish died. I was devastated about this, and years later found a diary entry I had written about it- I insisted my parents and sister hold a funeral for my fish, Swimmer, with me, and even wrote a eulogy to read when we buried him in the backyard garden (underneath an overturned flower pot so that animals wouldn't dig him up). It was a cute little eulogy when I reread it, with some kid-drawings of my 8-year-old self crying and my little fish. I've always been pretty sentimental
What is your favourite Aqua or Hydrus pet and why? My favourite is the Hydrus Legeica, like my pet Hippokampoi. I think it looks beautiful with the flowing mane and the way the seaweed and scales have been incorporated, and when I first looked through the Hydrus pets it immediately struck me as looking like a Hippokampoi/Hippocampus (the mythical creature), or maybe a Kelpie. As someone who has always been very into mythological creatures, and especially Greek mythology, this one was easily my favourite, but honestly all of the Hydrus pets are so well-done, I definitely have a soft spot for them.
Favourite kind of sea/ocean/lake creature and why? (can be a myth or legend) It's a toss-up between mermaids and the Loch Ness Monster. Mermaids were absolutely my favourite as a kid; I would play pretend that I was a mermaid just about any time I went swimming (and we had a cottage on a lake, so that was pretty often), and I've always been fascinated with the idea of being able to breathe underwater and explore what's down there. Nessie I love because the concept of a giant prehistoric creature that just happened to continue existing in one random loch in Scotland very much tickles my fancy, I think it's a great concept. It doesn't have to be real to be fun!
Corals are hard to take care of. They're gorgeous but please know that you WILL have trouble keeping them alive without putting some SERIOUS money into your setup -- like, 20k or so.
When I was around twelve, I was obsessed with the "Emily Windsnap" series. I thought that this secret that a girl who'd never been in a pool or the ocean, despite living on a sailboat, was actually a mermaid - was absolutely the coolest thing ever. On the other hand, there was this story called "Isabel and the Whales," which was a very weird concept that I enjoyed very much where a girl transformed into a whale, fell in love with a whale, and turned back into a human... while still being in love with the whale. Apparently, there's a sequel.
If I could have a sea animal as a pet, I would have an octopus. Those little suckers are so clever - they'd be able to actually 'play' in their own way, especially if you set up their enrichment correctly!
-Share any tips you have for fish/aquarium care! Get a plecostomus fish for your tank! they are a type of sucker fish and they help clean algae, and they are so cute! they put their mouths on the glass and clean it, it's so adorable lol! -Tell us about your first "childhood first fish gone wrong" situation. So many of us have one! I won a fish from the carnival when I was a kid! It was a goldfish. We didn't know that goldfish grew to the size of their tank, and it got HUGE. We had a 20 gallon fish tank, and it got so big it starting eating all of my moms little fish LOL! We had to move him to a different tank and got bigger fish lol. His name was Nemo hahah. He lived for like 10 years too lol -What is your favorite Aqua or Hydrus pet and why? my favorite is the Hydrus Blob! I love blobs they are so cute!! I need more pet slots so I can make a blob army lol
First "childhood first fish gone wrong" situation.
First pet fish ever- I won at the County Fair when I was 7 or 8. I believe it was my auntie that took me to the booth... my parents always avoided it.
Well, I won and brought home "Christmas".
We had a "fishbowl" that my mom was using as decor for something... it was small... but we figured it would work until we got a bigger one. Christmas did well for a while, until we were moving her into her new bigger bowl. We were not knowledgeable about proper fish care at the time... this was well before every house had access to the internet. We filled the bowl up with city water :/. We were doing our best and "Christmas" passed away. I was sad that I was trying to take care of my fish and I ended up hurting her. There were tears. We went to the library and got some books... we learned how to do things properly. Thus started about 10 years of fish ownership after that.
Heeey this is right up my alley! I love the ocean and I have a water dragon pet who would love some aquatic prizes for his treasure!
Tell us about your first "childhood first fish gone wrong" situation. So many of us have one! Well, it wasn't my first fish, but I used to keep fancy goldfish when I was a kid (around 8-9 years old). My mom's boyfriend was also a fish hobbyist and helped me with the care of the tank. One day I was helping him with a water change, in which I held the bucket and he used rubber tubing to remove the water... give a little suck on the end and let gravity do the rest, you know. And you do it with the fish still in the tank. Eric claimed I made some noise that made him think I was about to drop the bucket (I don't remember doing this, of course), and the tube jerked and sucked one of the fish up. D:
Favourite kind of sea/ocean/lake creature and why? (can be a myth or legend) The Nixie! It's a Germanic mythical water horse that can shapeshift into a handsome man and enchants humans by playing the violin. It's the same creature as the Nøkk, the water guardian from Frozen 2, and that horse was the only reason I watched that movie. XD
Do you have a favorite movie/book/game about a sea creature or undersea world? Tell us about it! SPOILERS TO FOLLOW not that anyone will care about a random kid's book but I feel bad not saying anything lol Seal Child, by Sylvia Peck. It's about a girl named Molly who vacations every summer on a small island with her family... one year they go in winter and there's a mysterious girl staying with the neighbor (who has been a friend of the family for years). Ruby (the neighbor) says the girl is her granddaughter who lives on the other side of the island with her parents, but the parents are having trouble so they sent Meara to stay with Ruby for a while. It turns out the girl is a selkie, who changed into a human when her mother was killed by poachers, and came to find Ruby, who had been kind to her father (I think). In this universe selkies can only make the change once, and they have to dive into salt water to change back. At a beachside picnic one day Molly goes swimming, and gets swept out too far, Meara dives in to save her but of course this turns her back into a seal.
Thank you for the giveaway!
Share any tips you have for fish/aquarium care! Pay attention to fish species. My sister had a Betta splendens and she bought a goldfish, so the betta was not alone. Let's say the betta had a good meal. Poor Goldie:(
If you could realistically have a sea animal as a pet, which would you choose and why? A whale. It's so relaxing to see them swim underwater. Whale sounds are really relaxing and stress relief :)
Tell us an aquatic-themed joke! Why can't the pirate finish the alphabet ? Because he's always lost at C.
Thank you for this giveaway!
Hiya! Super cute theme!
My favorite hydrus pet is the Blob! I mean, just look at it!
Probably not the most original, but tbh, I can't help it. The hydrus color is full of some amazing variations. I think I had a Keeto and Irion for years
But the Blobby sand dollar just brings back so many good memories from beach vacations.
So, also not unique, but the Loch Ness Monster is so fun. Not that I believe it's real, but because I was able to vacation to Loch Ness a few years back, and honestly, it's just so much fun. The entire town leans in HARD to the legend. There are so many Nessie statues of all variations. Not to mention museums on the monster lore and gift shops. It's hilarious and really just in good fun.
Sea animal as a pet, huh? Hmmm. I want to go with a Beluga Whale. I certainly don't have the space, time, or training, but Beluga's are incredibly smart and very friendly creatures. A little blobby all and all, but really just sweet animals who want to chill and blow bubble rings.
Tell us about your first "childhood first fish gone wrong" situation. So many of us have one! Oh boy. So when I was... maybe four or five? A neighbor across the street gave us some fish to take care of while they went on vacation. Two goldfish, and two bettas - in their own separate little bowls for obvious reasons. They gave very specific instructions for the bettas and some things for the goldfish. Now, I don't remember how it happened, but the bettas died. The neighbor came back from vacation, my mother explained what happened to the bettas, and the neighbor gave us the goldfish because I had apparently grown very attached to them even though they weren't ours to keep initially.
My brother named one, I named the other... then my brother's fish effectively starved mine by getting to the food first and eating all of it before mine could get any. Eventually, I just referred to my brother's fish as "the piggy".
Favourite kind of sea/ocean/lake creature and why? (can be a myth or legend) Oooh. This is tough for me. I love kelpies. Selkies are neat, too. I've always been drawn to selkies in particular - we encountered one in D&D 3.5 once, and I squealed when I realized what she was (right before the DM was about to reveal it... which kind of ruined the surprise). There's just something about being abe to change into an animal at will (and ideally not being trapped outside of the animal form... an aspect of the stories that always made me sad).
Do you have a favorite movie/book/game about a sea creature or undersea world? Tell us about it! So, when I was a kid, my father had a requirement that most of our computer games needed to be somewhat educational. Oregon/Yukon Trail, Where in the World is Carmen San Diego, that sort of thing. There was one game that I absolutely LOVED. "Odell Down Under", where you played as a fish on the Great Barrier Reef, trying to survive. You'd start as some small fish, like a Cleaner Wrasse, and eventually work your way up, all the way up to a Great White shark. You had to manage hunger (eat the right things, avoid stuff that would make you sick), hygiene (you'd have to look for a cleaner wrasse or similar fish and hope it wasn't one of mimicking fish that simply took bites out of you), and... something else, stat-wise. Most fish had something to defend themselves; cuttlefish, for example, had the ink attack to create an inky cloud to escape... the great white just... ate everything... Eventually, you could unlock a mode to create your own fish! It was a lot of fun.
First childhood fish gone wrong: Not my fish, but my little sister's. Her friend gave her 4 guppies for her birthday. Of course, my sister didn't want to take care of them, but also refused to get rid of them. What started as 4 fish (2 M, 2F) became over 400 fish, all in a smelly, relatively small tank. It was disgusting. Then the tank eventually started leaking and ruined my PS2.
Favorite ocean creature: I think manatees, or the sea cow, have to be one of my favorite sea creatures. They are just so chill. Also, they bring up fun memories with friends at the beach, where a manatee decided to swim right at us.
Favorite book: One of my favorite book series is the Percy Jackson series, by Rick Riordan. He also wrote the book, "Daughter of the Deep." Both of these involve mythology and fantasy that are related to the sea and different sea creatures. The Percy Jackson series focuses on Greek mythology as told by a middle-school demi-god, who is actually the son of Poseidon, giving him the ability to control water. He is forced to interact with multiple sea creatures on his journey both good and bad. Daughter of the Deep is a fiction story that references Jules Verne's 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. While these books were technically written for a middle-school aged audience, they also are fun reads for adults and are still relatable.
Tell us about your first "childhood first fish gone wrong" situation. So many of us have one! When I was a kid, before I knew anything about fish, my sister got me a betta for my birthday; I kept it in a unheated, unaerated 1gal tank and cried buckets when it died, then buried it in the backyard. I'm so sorry to Michael the betta, I remember you fondly and with great regret.
Favourite kind of sea/ocean/lake creature and why? Hmmm, I've always been big on kelpies! I read a lot of fantasy novels growing up and it terrified and delighted me in equal measures to read about a horse (childhood dream pet) who lived underwater (childhood dream home) but also kidnapped and killed people horribly lol. These days I just find it a fun myth!
What do you think mermaids would be like if they were real? Big. I think if mermaids were real they'd be very similar to the colossal squid - mysterious deep-sea dwellers subject to abyssal gigantism. We know they exist, and we have a few pieces of evidence and specimens that prove it, but to date we know very little about the species and it remains overall an enigma.
