Ugh, a fix is going out for this now.

We've been preparing for Morostide and the rest of the year (and an influx of Neopets users who don't want a silly NFT cash grab) and so put something called a "throttle" on the API to prevent cheaters. It only takes x requests per second from an IP and blocks any extra requests for just a few seconds.

Unfortunately due to some other changes I made in the last two weeks (systems that allow us to auto scale to meet exactly the demand we have at the time) make it so that the servers thinks all requests are coming from the same IP (our load balancer) and... blocked all of us. I love computers!

A fix is going out now, but the good news is (and I'll make a larger site update about this tomorrow) we're very prepared 😭

If you guys are still having issues, could you try changing your password and see if that helps you to log into the new site?

Glad it is working so far :) a few others have said they had success after doing this so I am crossing my fingers!

I know they said they are trying to work on the lag.

Hey everyone -- checking in on this topic again. We are working on this and pushed a fix a few days ago that we thought solved this :( Unfortunately, it isn't the case.

While we're working on new wardrobe features, we're also pushing backend changes that include attempts to resolve this.

Also, to be clear, this isn't something that we just randomly decided to do. The login authentication system on Subeta was 15 years old and didn't adhere to what browsers consider best practices for cookies (little files that live in your browser and tell it that you're authenticated) and would have just stopped working completely in 2021, so we made moves to use the new login system. Unfortunately having the state of the site be between both is not ideal, and has created issues across browsers / user types.

I am still (daily) with trying to figure out this problem.

Do you mind listing what browser extensions you use when not in incognito? Or if you're feeling incredibly generous with your time, disabling them one by one to see if one of them is causing the issue?

New Subeta is a platform for a lot of fun changes for the site, such as border cosmetics and better organization across different features, and it has also been a way to increase account security. However, security is always a balance between assurance and usability and the current method is not the answer for both. Given that, Keith is looking into new ways to handle this. Options to pursue include building an authentication protocol provider, which is more secure and cheaper but will involve more time and development, or using an external service which will be require payment but would require payment.
However, Keith is going to able to devote more time to the site and finding the best solution along with putting together a plan for adding programming assistance. Working on the log-in issues has not fallen by the wayside! It is in active discussion and in progress, and will be covered in more detail as we have it. Thank you!
