Yeah, I do have something like that going with the nature of the environment. The forest has different sections in different seasons, so they pass through snowy areas, autumn forest with slippery leaflitter and fallen nuts and seeds, an open grassland/swamp... I've been planning to use that engagement with the environment in the between-scenes where they're trying to plan their options and approaches, but I think you might right be on the money with making more of a deal of that environmental interaction while they're actually fleeing as well. Maybe have snowdrifts covering up badger holes, things like that...

Cheers for those suggestions!

- In addition to terrain, you could add effects of weather, rain or fog could hinder progress quite a bit, or even a previous rainfall making the ground slippery or muddy, maybe they're leaving too many tracks and have to try. If you are feeling really adventurous (or desperate) you could try a plot/conflict generator: Oh no, they discover they've been going in circles! or 'What's that? it's a giant man eating bird!'

I'm thinking about doing NaNo this year, but I'm not sure what I should write about. I just know that I like the daily aspect of it. If I don't have a reason to write, I kind of don't write. NaNo is an excellent motivator.

- Nano is a great motivator! Pretty much the only time I write too, even though I tell myself I will write more at other times, it never seems to happen! There's lots of prompt generators out there, and you have another month or so to think about what you want to write. You could even write short stories, or fanfic, or just other prose you feel like writing, doesn't necessarily need to be a novel! Should probably start a 2022 nano thread soon...

I won't be doing NaNoWrimo this year. I'm editing my first book, Sparky And The Wheezles, started 14 years ago as my first four NaNoWriMo projects. (yes, it's over 200,000 words long!) I'm going to publish it on Amazon and hope to have it out by December. Then I will work on publishing Lady Frieda: Master Healer of Glen Meadow followed by Benji the Greaser: Savior of Glen Meadow. my last ten years projects on NaNoWriMo.

But I want to encourage everybody who wants to try it. The best advice I ever got was to read Steven Kings book On Writing. In it he made a point to 'give yourself permission to write crap.' (I'm paraphrasing) Just set aside a bit of time each day to write something. It's the act of writing that is important...not necessarily the content.

Just do it! And have fun!

Yes, I am a role-playing character, but I don’t bite (much.)

- Congrats!! GL with the editing and publishing! As long as I have been doing Nano, you've been a staple on the forums, you will be missed! (by me at least!) My first nano project also 200k after working on it for 4 years, and it still wasn't complete, and I gave up on it. Been working on a new project past few years, this year I will actually get to scripting it, instead of just outlining and world building.

PS. made a 2022 thread for anyone who is participating this year! https://subeta.net/forums.php/read/928116#
