Thanks for the warm welcome, yall, it truly is like coming home
Our Lair is proof you don't have to stand face to face to know you've got friends who stand with you when you need us.
Mni wiconi -- water is life
: I made the original, here it is. There are some listed here that are no longer with us.

It's important to eliminate the background. Having an animal friend is OK. The backgrounds take a long time to erase.

...I think our neighbors hate us. We never cut down the calla lilies. XD ....In my defense though, it does make a great haven for the little birds we have around here! They flit all through it in the winter looking for bugs

I really hate to cut them down, but they have already started to turn brown. They usually get about 4 feet high. In the spring, I put miracle grow on them. But its so hot here in the summer, I have to water them in the evenings when the sun goes down, or they would get burnt. The birds like to nest in our Italian cypress surrounding our property. I have ornamental pomegranate bushes the humming birds and butterflies just love.
Ours get pretty tall - taller than I am and I stand 5'6. But we pretty much don't touch them. They grow, they die, they reseed themselves. (they definitely get brown as fall turns to winter here). Honestly if I have to do much of anything with plants, it doesn't bode well for them. =0P ...My father can grown just about anything and revive plants from the dead. I can kill just about anything. XD The cypress and ornamental pomegranate sound lovely.

Oh I just cut them off ground level, and leave them until spring. Plenty of water, to keep them from drying up in the heat here in the summer. I have a lime bush that got frozen last winter, and I had to cut it down to about 1 foot off the ground. This summer, it start growing back. But no limes for maybe 2 years, but when it does get limes it should be a lot. Its my first lime bush, and I just water it a lot. Hubby thought it was dying the first time it froze years ago, he was going to pull it out of the ground. I told him, dont you dare. I didnt know if was going to survive. But tested branches from top to bottom, for being brittle and snapping. When they started bending, and not snapping. I told him to cut everything off at that level. Which was 1 foot off the ground, So I knew to cut it down to that level this year again. Certain house plants should not be in my house I have no luck. I couldnt get peach, pear or apple trees to grow here in the desert though. But I have a fig that loves this area.
Yeah, i'm too lazy to do that. XD The brown stalks just chill and rattle in the breeze. Come spring the new growth comes up through the old growth (hence, why the neighbors, who are retired and have a lawn that looks like it is out of a storybook, probably would like to set the calla lillies on fire.) I love that they grow tall enough to mostly shade/block the bedroom windows though.
Lime bush!! That sounds amazing! I do enjoy a lot of citrus. I don't think that would work outside here - our winters get quite cold and frosty! But dad has all kinds of fruit trees and plants in pots, him and my stepmother grow SO many different things. They also bring things in and out- knowing which ones can survive outside and which need to be inside in the winter. I just got them a pair of the wheeled planter boxes to try out. They usually sell whatever fruit trees they sprout though. ...Hmm...If I manage to buy a house I want to plant some pecan trees. I love pecans! When I was a kid we used to go to my grandmothers house and i would picks bags and bags of 'em.

My calla lillies hide my packages that are delivered on the front porch from porch mail pirates or whatever their called.
When my lime bush is giving out fruit, I can get just a bit over 500 limes, they are big and juicy. I juice some for my family. Then I start sharing with family, friends and neighbors. Oh your Dad might like to know about using soda/pop on trees and bushes that arent doing good whether they have been in the ground awhile or just put in the ground. The bubbles in the soda help relax the roots, so they can establish the tree or bush better. He can use store brand soda/pop or off brand. Important part is just the bubbles. Tell him no, it doesnt attract ants or bugs. My neighbor has a Texas pecan tree, and I have pecans all over my yard. But my dogs love them, so I dont worry. I am afraid to eat them off the ground, because I dont know how long they have been there. I didnt realize my dogs were eating them, until they start bringing them to me. I break them open and feed them the pecans. Funny 2 of my dogs were litter mates, and I could never get their pictures together until, I started opening pecans for them. Then suddenly they were like breathing statues sitting side by side, and only their eyes moved following every small bit of pecan. They did the same for walnuts.
We have a honkin tea rose bush that hides out packages. XD
Mm..those limes sound amazing! I'll have to tell him about the pop trick! ....You should be able to lookup when the pecans ripen in your grow-zone. We always picked them off the ground after they fell and then shelled and froze them. That is hilarious though! XD I can just picture them sitting and waiting.

Oh I love it some else uses the word honkin like I do! My litter mates ate a rose bush I had in my back yard when they were teething as puppies. Fortunately, by the time I discovered it. They diidnt tear up their mouths, and i didnt hear yelping when the went the bathroom. So I assumed everything come out all right in the end (pun). LOL Gosh I should have figured out the grow zone for the pecans.
Pop/soda is amazing with root bound plants kept in pots until they are sold or someone takes to long to change the pots.
I get that "huge honkin'" phrase from my dad. XD
Oh dear. I'm glad it decided to move along. ...otherwise it might have been a thorny situation. =0P
Then I will definitely pass that along!

My sons talk like I do, and use same country phrases. Even though their city boys, I was raised in Montana. Sometimes they have to explain themselves.
I was worried about a painful vet visit for them both, they didnt even have cuts in their mouths.
I pick up all kinds of odds and ends here and there - From dad or mom, books I read. I've always had a thing for English. ...words are like paints you can use to create so many nuanced pictures!
That was very, very lucky. We had a client bring their dog in for squinting - he ran through their rose bush and it turned out he picked up a thorn in his eye! (He was fine, his eye will be fine) So rose bushes definitely can cause issues. However I also know someone whose dog evidently got ahold of pop can - and it came out the other end (it was...rather mangled).

You know what? Your one of the few people I have heard in years that believe that, "words are like paints you can use to create so many nuanced pictures." Because that is exactly how my parents, sisters and I talk.
Unfortunate for hubby he annoyed me once, and I asked him. If he could tell me who rough up his rear with course grade sand paper and poured alcohol on it. Yes, he did realize his was being the north end of a south bound mule. Hubby is Egyptian, and has been in the states since 1980. But I still surprise him, when i say things when he has me so wound up, I cant see straight or being seriously silly.
A pop can, thats a new one for me. Lucky dog tore up can, a whole can could have been dangerous in so many ways. But dang the sharp edges could have carved him a new opening in his caboose.
Well I am off to bed, great chatting with you!
I don't understand that. Anyone who has every read a book and been transported to another world...or to the front lines of a terrible war should know how amazing words are!....There is a reason the pen is mightier than the sword. I have to admit that I think of my family, I'm probably definitely the one that talks the most. XD (Perhaps family and friends may have said I could talk a rock to death. cough) but I'm also the one that reads the most. Dad used to read more, but then he found other hobbies. My mother was never enamored of them - and my brother? ....He was like Dad. Read more when he was younger and then moved onto other things. I've never quite lost the joy of a good book - though I also read less now that I am adult than I did when I was a kid. It was always easier to find the time when you didn't also have so many responsibilities to take care of.
That's hilarious! ...the "north end of a south bound mule" ..I'm going to have to remember that one. Most of the people I know were born and lived in the states, but I still surprise them with some of the things that pop out of my mouth. XD I'm never surprised when someone asks me what a one of the ten-penny words I'll sling around mean....or when people are caught off guard by my use of...creative language. Get me on a roll, when my brain isn't mush and i'll pull out some right corkers.
yes! It was definitely dangerous. And I'm still a bit amazed that things passed along, to be honest. Any vet would have recommended surgery for removal. I am just glad for the dogs sake it managed! But I guess there are people who have ingested pieces of cars and planes and things and managed to pass it, so while unusual - not entirely unheard of.
I hope you have a wonderful nights sleep. It was my pleasure!
