Hey there, could you let me know if you're still experiencing a problem with this page today?

If so, could you please give an exact Chrome version? For example, are you on 91.0.4472? You should be able to find the exact version in the browser by choosing the three dots icon in the top right, and then Help -> About Google Chrome.

Hey I was made aware of your issue recently. That is really frustrating and I'd like you to be able to submit CWs too. I understand it isn't just the error itself, but it's also frustrating since they can be time sensitive (like birthday releases) and involve real money payments too.

I apologize that I haven't had much capacity for this lately - the past few months have been hectic for me since I got my first full-time job (!!) and I'm still figuring out how to make more time for Subeta in my new routine. I do plan to post a proper update on my situation once things have stabilized more.

Anyway, let's see if I can help you out.

Your problems do not seem to be the same problem as OP's issue, because you aren't seeing error messages on the form fields. You also aren't experiencing Kabbalah's issue, right? (https://gyazo.com/9f1ebcd666cf56e6c2b8ef6afab8b8db)

Are you both experiencing the same issue as each other?

Here's what I understand for your issues so far - please clarify if any of this is incorrect, or if you may have more information:

For Yuki's problem:

  • It only happened with a specific CW's files, and you were able to still submit other CWs
  • You were able to submit this CW by changing the image files (which ones and how exactly?)
  • Nothing happens when you click Submit - meaning, the Submit button is still clickable, it doesn't change to a loading state, there are no errors or weird behavior on the form fields - they're still filled out exactly as you filled them out?

For Starmates' problem:

  • Same things as above: it only happens for specific CWs and you're able to submit other ones, and there are no error messages or weird form behavior - just nothing happens when you click the submit button, it doesn't even go to a disabled or loading spinner on the button?
  • Is this only happening when you submit recolors?

To give some background on this issue: we've had very rare reports of this in the past, since the new system was released, but they've always seemed to fix themselves - in most cases, the submission would go through if the user kept trying it, without even changing any of the CW files or information.

I've also tried to reproduce this in the past - with the exact browser version, image files, etc - but with no luck. So it's been very tricky to get to the bottom of this, and we are not sure why it suddenly started to happen more often in the past month or so.

Still, there is always something we can try... So let's clarify the details and go from there.

Could you try again now and see if the submission form goes through or still has errors?

I traced another issue back to an update that was made around 25 days ago. That seems to line up with when your particular issue became more common. So since that is (possibly) fixed now, I'd like to see if there's any changes in the problems you're experiencing.

Got it, thank you! In Kabbalah's gif, the overlays seem to flicker when they check the checkboxes too (for terms and conditions and artist copy) Does that also happen to you, with the checkboxes?

I want to try submitting the form from your account - just to see if I can trigger the same glitch or not. If I can, that would be the best way to debug it. Could you send me the EXACT info you're filling out the form with, for that one moon recolor that won't go through? It might be easiest to email me the image files: bug @ subeta.net (You can also email me the other information if you don't want to post in publicly here. Just let me know.)

Hey - so Gemma analyzed the image files, and she couldn't find anything weird with them. It's not any of the things she thought it might be. So in this case, could the artist please try:

  1. Open a file that did work
  2. Paste the image that didn't work into it (so, flatten it first if necessary)
  3. Resave it under a new filename that hasn't been used before

Could you guys please have your artist try this for the offending files? For both the CI and the overlay files. (When I tested with files, I found the CI was the problem, not the overlay - but this doesn't seem to be consistent looking at everyone's reports.)

Could your artist(s) also share a little more info about the art software they use, and how they save things? (Like any formatting / save settings?) These could all provide a clue.

Also, I determined it's not a problem with the JavaScript. The data is getting sent to the backend, but it is not even reaching the part of backend code that processes the request. Something about the image data itself is triggering... some kind of security thing, to the best that I can tell. That may not be fixable on our end even though it's a problem on our end, so hopefully we can figure out some kind of workaround.

Okay, this may seem out of left field, but do the images successfully upload if you try to upload them to an image host such as Imgur? If other websites can take the image then I can try and compare with our system and see what is different about how the data is getting sent across the web.

I am really sorry this is not a quick-n-easy fix, guys - it is baffling but I am gonna keep brainstorming and trying things!

Oh, that's great!

In that case, I'd like to see if Gemma's workaround suggestion will work for everyone. Could everyone give that a try with your problematic files? Again the workaround is:

  1. Open a file that did work
  2. Paste the image that didn't work into it (so, flatten it first if necessary)
  3. Resave it under a new filename that hasn't been used before

If we can feel confident in this workaround, I can modify the submission form to give a message about this instead of crashing. It's not a true solution but it will be great to have a workaround at least, especially if it seems to always work!

Ugh, sorry, that error message is supposed to be... something more helpfully worded, haha. But yeah, that is a separate error and it's not a glitch, it means something about your image files is not meeting the requirements: it could be the wrong file type, or the wrong image dimensions.

We didn't add a message yet for the glitch described by this OP, so if you encounter it, it will look like the button does nothing. In that case, you should try the workaround of copying and re-saving it to a working file. At the moment, I'm just waiting to hear if this workaround works for more people.
