I wish you the best of luck. That's really crappy on their end. I understand it's the end of your lease, but having previously worked as a leasing agent, typically you just wait to renovate whatever unit until the current tenant leaves. Renovate whatever's vacant. Or depending on what you want to renovate, you can usually work something out with the tenant in regards to having crews come in while they're still renting. Maybe you reduce rent for the inconvenience, or maybe you temp move them in to a vacant unit if that's an option, etc.

Either way. That's just a bunch of me rambling. I really wish you the best. Take a second to breathe. Close your eyes and take a few minutes to calm yourself before beginning your search.

Oh she did offer us to switch to a new apartment. For a substantial raise in price, which we cannot afford, and which this place is absolutely not worth. We're paying more now than this apartment is worth IMHO because there are so many problems with it that make parts of the apartment nearly unlivable. Her renovations aren't fixing these issues either, she's just slapping some new paint and flooring in. =/ I could go on a 48 hour rant about this place + the landlord's appalling attitude, but I won't. lol.

That's so underhanded and dirty it makes me angry for you, lol. I feel your frustration of having a slum lord. The apartment we're in now has flooded twice with raw sewage. The last time it did it took them nearly 2 weeks to finally send out a company to put in air movers to try and dry out the floors and walls (both times we had to clean the sewage ourselves, they never sent anyone for that). We had to stay at my best friend's parents' house for those 2 weeks, but they sure as hell made sure to charge us rent. We also went month to month on our lease, rather than signing another year with them, but once we cycled a year of being on month to month, they upped our rent another $55 anyway. When I had very specifically asked if that was the rate we would pay until we put in a notice to vacate, and they said yes. Oh, and you're supposed to get a $5 credit for paying rent online, and this is the 20th month in a row we have not been given the discount. They just decided to not even answer my inquiry about that.

i wish you all the best during this transition time <3 i know how stressful, draining, infuriating, demoralizing (where to stop this list lol) a shitty housing situation can be! i'm crossing my fingers for you that you find the perfect outcome - and if not perfect then at least better!
