New Character

Thought it would be cool to try to design a character for each month this year. So this is my new character January. First piece is the original concept sketch of the character. Second is more of a 'serious' sketch of them. :)

last minute She looked around at the revelers: laughing, drinking, stuffing their faces. Stuffing their faces at her expense. Her money that her husband spent wantonly on such frivolous things as parties. That money could be spent on much more important matters. War. Expansion. Filling the coffers instead of emptying them. The lords and ladies cowering in fear and offering up their riches instead of draining the royalty of all theirs. It was her kingdom's money being spent. His didn't have a silver coin to his name until he married her.

He wasn't a bad man. A bit slow, maybe, but never cruel or demanding of her. Smart enough to not fall for all of her suggestions. Kind enough to look after the poor. A generally well-loved king. But weak. And frivolous. And taking for granted the wealth that she had supplied.

But not for much longer. No, tonight would be the last night she would suffer these insults. The last night she would smile and nod at the simpleton to her right. To laugh at his dry, humorless jokes while her husband told his own. She looked at her husband's trusted advisor, the man she had been sleeping with since before she even married the pathetic king-to-be. A small tug at the corner of his mouth let her know that all was going as it should. Soon. Very soon.

So she laughed. And smiled. And ate. She was the perfect queen after all. As usual, the last course was her husband's favorite: a heavy tart drowned in sweet sauces and surrounded with exotic fruit. The fool licked his lips in delight as his guests let out an appreciative murmur. The queen never cared for the dessert, too rich for her liking. But tonight, she was looking forward to the dessert course the most. For in that decadent sauce was her key to the kingdom. The taster came and took a sample of the dessert, nodding at his excellency. The queen smiled to herself as the advisor rushed him out of the room, knowing that he would be the first, but no the last, casualty of the night.

A nod from the advisor to the king, and the king took his first bite, his eyes lighting up at the taste. Now, everyone else was allowed to taste. The queen smiled, taking a small bite and letting that infernal richness wash over her tongue. Soon.

Time seemed to slow to a crawl as the large table of royalty and nobility ate their dessert. Again, there was laughing and joking and tomfoolery. The queen pursed her lips, careful to make sure she was not looking at the king too suspiciously. She finished her dessert well after he had finished his. He whispered a dry joke into her ear, which she pretended to be amused by. More time passed as the plates were cleared and more wine was brought in at the king's request.

Surely enough time had passed? A small bead of sweat ran down her back as she glanced at the advisor once again. Again, there was a twitch at his mouth. Everything was alright, then? She examined his face for as long as she dared to find some telling sign. Meanwhile, the king began to one of the five stories he told at every banquet, while the guests politely nodded as if they had not heard it thirteen times already. More sweat dripped down the queen's back.

Why was nothing happening? And why was it so damned hot in there? Her cheeks were flushed with frustration as she laughed as the appropriate points in her husband's story. The advisor had disappeared from the room. Damn it. Where did he go? Something had gone wrong, surely. Could he not poison the wine her husband drank? Wine. She was so...thirsty. She downed the rest of her glass and gestured for a servant to refill it. As he poured the wine, she noticed her back was soaked with sweat...and the heat was overbearing. She called another servant to fan her. Her husband glanced at her, the smallest smidgen of concern on his face. But she waved him away to finish his story. He obliged.

As the story finally came to a close, the heat and thirst became unbearable. She would sooner die than faint in front of all of these people. She uttered an excuse of needing some air to her husband, but he did not turn to her. Damn him. She made a move to leave, but her feet would not follow her. Her body would not move. And why could she no longer feel the fan of the servant? She opened her mouth to snap at him, but no sound came out. She tried again. Nothing. She tried to reach for her wine glass, but her arm would not move. It was so damned hot...and she felt so faint.

The sound of her body smacking against the table got the attention of her husband, as well as the rest of the party. Her wine glass toppled over and wine spilled all over her perfectly curled hair. The feeling in her limbs was slowly fading away, as was her sight. She looked to where the advisor had been and saw he had returned, with that same expression on his face that everything was going as planned. It was the last sight she saw: betrayal. This was also the last sound she heard, her strength giving out as her husband whispered in her ear, "I knew who I married".

Then her sight and hearing were gone. And she was gone. The warmth of her body turning cold as the heart that would no longer beat.

This is a new short story. ^^

Two new crafty things submitted last minute for this week’s prompt!

The first is a little crochet mushroom pochette. (I have the pattern if any crocheters are interested in it.) My second craft is a bit of mail art. They’re both for my friend’s birthday which passed a couple days ago. I hope she enjoys them and is encouraged to find foraged treasures and connect with nature.

Week Three: Something That Is Yet To Be Done Jan 18th - Jan 24th

This week's prompt is to work on something you've been meaning to do. It happens to all of us. Great idea that you never write, that one thing you want to draw but haven't. We invite you to challenge yourself and Do! That! Thing! And then we can reflect a bit on why it took so long to get it off your to-do list.

Additional challenge: choose a different medium from your first submissions and tackle the prompt in another way!

Welcome to week three my friends!! I am super inspired by the different medium you guys have used and introduced to the rest, and so we’re gonna go ahead and coast on that inspiration! What have you been meaning to work on?

maybe it’s time for me to download rpg maker and finally get to the thing

This week, two gift baskets are being sent to and ! I hope you guys enjoy it <3

Prompt 3 So I redid one of my pets entirely and rather than leaving no story I wrote something short and sucky. SO Thanks to yall I have rewritten it here is the original and the updated

original Painter was never one for ordinary. She always wanted to see the world in rainbow! Well one time I was painting my room a different color, blue and I had a few extra paints laying around.

I had no idea she was going to DIP her tail in the paint!! What a bad girl she was. She ran around the room covering it in various colors. When she finally wore herself out she laid in the middle.

The room ended up looking much better this way tho, so I went ahead and left it. My creative pet got to keep some paints too and color the room whenever the desire struck her!

new Painter was never one for ordinary. She always wanted to see the world in rainbow. Pretty colors make the world smile was my pet’s motto. I needed to paint a new room in my house and had bought some blue paint and she kept knocking it over! I sighed and asked her what was wrong and she kept pointing at the blue paint and shaking her head. I decided to bring her with me to the next trip to the store. She pointed out yellow and red as well as some white and black.

This ended up being an expensive trip, but if it would make my pet happier I decided to go with it. I smiled at her and purchased all the paint and she wiggled her tail happily. Opening all the cans of paint and standing in front of the bare wall again I had no idea where to start. She went and DIPPED her tail in the paint!! What a bad girl she was. She ran around the room covering it in various colors. When she finally wore herself out she laid in the middle.

I looked around the room in awe. What she had done was much more than a simple paint job. How had she done all of this with her tail!! It was magnificent and made me smile. She had painted rainbows and skies and landscapes. The room screamed love and hope. I patted her head as she laid in the middle of the room. I left the paint in her room as well. If the itch ever struck her to change it she had the option.

Of course I put it off to the last minute... But I finally wrote something up for one of my pets, which I have been wanting to do for awhile. I used to love to write but I haven't written anything at all in so long, I get brain fog and low motivation. Thanks for the push to get it done. :) Now I need the motivation to get a profile together, lol. By the way, I love what everyone else is doing, you all are so talented.

Claret's Story Legend has it that there is a place in the Arctic Frost where one should not wander. Deep amongst the beauty of snow-covered trees lies a magnificent mansion made of sparkling shards of ice crystals. Just in front of the estate, a warm, flowing river can be found, uninhibited by the frost around it. This is no ordinary body of water, however, as it is a deep crimson red. This place is the home of the blood-thirsty darkonite known as Claret. It is said she was long ago bitten by a strange beast herself in this artic forest and being afflicted with such a hunger she now carries on a legacy of fear and bloodshed.

Claret often waits until an unfortunate soul gets lost near her compound. In addition to common vampiric powers, she had the ability to control the cold elements around her. She will freeze the traveler in place, then will puncture the ice at the neck and drain some delicious liquid for a meal. She does not always suck a victim completely dry though. She sometimes will leave the victim floating in their block of ice, slowly draining their warm sustenance into the river. If she is lacking in supply, it is said she might leave her dwelling and go on the hunt in nearby villages, so those living there are reminded to keep their doors and windows locked.....

Well, I almost managed to procrastinate three weeks before participating in this c;

For my actual entry, though, I worked on my Sweetheart Donadak (name pending), who I’ve been planning on and off for about a year now

SPOILER (click to toggle) Still very much WIP; I’m trying to cram two different ideas into one. This adding stuff to (mostly living) stuff phase would be her young form, and the removing stuff from stuff phase would be her when she’s overdone the adding and starts removing, eventually peeling off her own skin. I’ll need to learn to draw muscles before attempting to draw her final form, though

(no need to include me in the raffle, i just really love these sort of challenges)

i'm working on my dancing / this is the best i can do / i'm tentatively shaking / you don't have to look

So...I finally made a tribute pet to my cat, Belle, who passed away some years ago. I still need to make her angelic...and upload a nice photo, but I did write her story.

here is the story R.I.P Belle

Belle was just the sweetest little cat that could be. When I was in high school, I started volunteering at a cat shelter. I would clean out cages, scoop litter boxes, and play with/pet the cats there. I did this for about 2 months before the sweetest little orange fluffball caught my eye. Her shelter name was Lily Pad, and she was the cutest medium-haired young kitten I had seen. I made sure that I spent time with her, petting her and loving her. She was shy at first, but slowly started to warm up to me. I just knew that Lily Pad had to be mine.

I managed to convince my parents that, yes, we did indeed need another cat. So on a weekend, we came into the shelter and adopted Lily Pad. Of course, her name had to be changed since we already had a cat named Lily. Belle is my favorite Disney princess, so I chose Belle as her name. When we first took her home, she had to stay in my room (where we put a litter box). I remember her being a little shy, but warming up to me quickly. Her orange fur looked adorable on my blue comforter. As all kittens do, she loved to play! She really enjoyed the toys with feathers on the end.

Belle, or Belle Belle as I affectionately called her, was definitely my cat. She would sleep on my bed and greet me when I came home from school. She loved to play with her jingly feather toys, as well as a toy we got from a cereal box; she would fetch the toys if you would throw them for her. Sometimes I would play peek-a-boo with her. If I could hide my face, or duck down behind some furniture, and peek my head back out, she let out her signature little squeaky mew. She had her favorite little chair that she would sit in, with or without me.

After having her a little over two years, we noticed she was having trouble breathing. We took her to the vet, but they couldn't pinpoint the cause. I would monitor her breaths and home and comfort her as best I could, but her condition worsened in the last week. She could hardly breathe at all, and we took her to the vet one last time. She had to be put down, but I couldn't be in the room with her; instead, I cried in the bathroom. The pain was incredible...my Belle Belle was gone. The next day, I had to take a final exam for a college class, and all I could think about was her.

It had been many years since she passed, and I still miss Belle. I get sad when I see one of her feather toys or see pictures. But I also remember all the joy she brought me and her lovely little squeaks. I will love her and remember her always. <3
