It's first come, first served - that's the thing with limited releases.

I only ever buy two copies if the item is on a frinds WL and I can gift it - so even if I buy multiples it's never to "trade up" not a fan of trading anyway. I buy them and if I o not use them any more I'll rather gift them if I see them on a WL

I just think, that with the sheep Satins they are so thought after. But thanks for asking!

This is great that you're looking at feedback! I signed in 30 minutes after your ping and they were already gone, so I didn't even bother to post. I'd love to see things like your sheep (if wanting them to be limited) done as like a 24-hour release or something. Something to incentivize buyers to buy as soon as they can but also dis-incentivize people from buying multiple copies just to trade.

Ultimately I'm just firmly in the "goodness, I hate how rare certain things are" camp and I lovelove when releasers make things easier to get ahold of. Even releasing a larger amount than usual or staggering the release would be great :)

I managed to be online when the last Fountain Goddess was released directly to shop and it was SO TEMPTING to buy multiple copies. I didn't, but I don't doubt for a second that some people did.

as said, if I can afford AND it's ona friends WL I usually do not care and just buy the second copy, BUT I then gift it away -

I love the idea of X amount of time release ^0^ Which gives everyone a chance at getting a copy of one your cutesy sheep dresses :3 I didn’t realize people bought more than 1 copy but I think the limited time release might help with that more than just so many copies put in at a time. As Flyingkat said, I do know a few people who bought them (including myself) and they only got 1 copy o.O

I'm in the same boat as . If I ever buy a second copy of someones CW, it is because I am wanting to gift it to a friend for a birthday or for Lumi or I would love it for a TC. I was lucky enough to purchase a copy of your sheep satin for myself and about five of my friends also purchased copies!

At the end of the day limited releases are limited and we know the sheep satins are super popular. A lot of people collect them! So mix the two and you have something that's highly sought after by a lot of people because of its limited availability! The demand for them in the market is high as so many people have them on their wishlists and older recolors are coveted as most people only trade them for hard to find items. Then also throw in our newcomers to the CW market and the extra demand that is being generated by them! There have been plenty of limited items I have missed out on because I have been asleep, at work, doing family things but that's just how life is when it comes to limited stuff. If I have to find it in the resale market then that's okay for me.

To be honest I never gave a second thought to those who may want to buy extras for profit/trade. I guess that is because I don't set hard caps anymore so I have the freedom to restock something once it sells out if I choose to. But if you are worried about that and you want to deter people from buying extras to trade/profit, perhaps placing them as unlimited in your shop for a longer period of time could work or don't cap them and just release more copies when you see fit. As long as they are accessible for people to purchase in your shop or you choose to restock them from time to time, people aren't going to be able to sell their extras for profit unless they are willing to wait out for you to retire them. I feel like doing limited 24/48 hour release could be good, but you'd still have people who may buy extra copies regardless of how many people purchase directly from you and how many total copies are onsite before you retire it.

As everyone else said, without a doubt, the sheep satins are very popular! So it's not surprising that it sold out quickly. But yeah, it just sprung in my mind that since anyone can purchase them in shop, and they were very limited, there's a possibility that someone could've purchased more than one for not-so-nice reasons. I like to think that no one would buy multiples to sell/trade for profit only, but I remember hearing about this happening (or at least suspicion of this happening) in the past with a few other limited popular releases...so yeah, I just hope no one did that in this case ;3;

I know you've done timed unlimited releases (i.e., unlimited in shop for 24 or 48 hours) with a couple recolors of the sheep satin before, so that sounds like a nice option to do, even if only once in a while! But it's understandable if you can't or don't want to do it for all recolors. It's your item, so you have every right to decide how you want to release it in the end. <3

P.S. Since a couple people brought it up, I don't think there's anything wrong with buying more than one copy if you want to gift one to a friend, for instance! (That's a truly sweet thing to do! <3) It's really just that if someone did happen to buy multiples for the sake of selling/trading for profit, that would be disappointing ;;

Excluding totally unlimited releases, I'd probably either offer it as time limited unlimited or go for the multiples of X at different times. Pretty gross behavior to buy more than one with intent to resell or trade up but without slotting, you can't really do anything to stop it. Which is why I'm just saying fuck it and making almost everything unlimited lollll.

I would give them a soft cap (12 hour window or some other way to allow people from various timezones to get them) and to prevent multiple buys, you can send invites. If you spot someone selling them for ridiculous amounts of CSC, you can warn and/or ban them. This is just an adorable design and lovely coloration.

I've never capped anything so I have no real advice to offer.

Cathii has done timed limited releases on her kitten fabrics that are pretty popular too! I think that's the best course action. This allows everyone that loves your beloved sheep to get one and discourages hoarding or purchasing for profit. I woulda been so bummed if I had missed it, sorta like how I was over the fountain curls. (One day I'll own a color haha)

But I appreciate anything you choose moving forward. Whatever doesn't overwhelm you.

First, I appreciate everyone who had constructive and helpful opinions to add. Going forward, I am going to use a few different release methods for the sheep (and some other more well-liked items as well) such as 24-48 hours unlimited, higher batch caps, inserting quantities at random times, etc. I’ll try and diversify as much as possible going forward. <3
