Hard to tell from the photo, but we gave him a tiny stuffed elephant for company and he spent every moment not eating, drinking or pooping snuggled up with it. (We hatched another clutch soon after. He has siblings now and is a happy birb.)

I love that you’re doing this. Today, I’ll tell you the story of why my family no longer has a toaster oven.

I was gone for literally fifteen minutes to go to the store and grab some ingredients for what we needed to eat for dinner, and as I left, I said, “don’t burn down the house!” like I always did (and still do). Well, I didn’t expect them to take me so literally. My sister was making nachos in the toaster oven and forgot they were there after setting them to broil instead of setting it to toast for seven minutes like we usually did. Well, needless to say they got much hotter than they were supposed to - and caught fire! My sister yelled for my brother, who saw through the open pantry door our perfectly good and completed functional fire extinguisher, looked to his right and saw two very fragile oven mitts, and...... put on the oven mitts, picked up the FLAMING toaster, and ran, not through the back door, only ten feet away, but instead ALL the way through the house holding the toaster in front of him. He took it down the stairs and into the driveway, where it continued burning merrily away. They grabbed the first thing they could think of - the water hose - and turned it onto the fire. They extinguished the fire and felt like they had avoided crisis - then heard a loud CRACK! as the glass window to the toaster shattered into a hundred tiny pieces. They go back upstairs to think about what they’ve done.

Five minutes after this, I come back from my errand and see a smoldering heap in our driveway. I get closer, I see that it’s the toaster, soaking wet and shattered, with the sad remains of the nachos inside. I walk inside. I take a deep breath. And then yell, “WHICH ONE OF YOU IDIOTS SET THE TOASTER ON FIRE?!”

My sister admitted to it. I then turned my ire onto my brother. After he explains to me what exactly had transpired, I take him by the elbow and march him to the pantry. “What’s this?” I ask, pointing to the fire extinguisher. “A fire extinguisher,” he replied morosely, already knowing where I was going with this. “And why, pray tell, did you not use said fire extinguisher?”

My brother looked at me, weighing his options. I’d have known if he’d lied, and he wasn’t about to risk me calling our parents. “I didn’t want to waste the extinguisher,” he finally said.

I took another bracing breath. “So instead you decided to run through the house with a flaming toaster in your hands?” It took a bit more of this before he realized that the fire extinguisher is, indeed, for any uncontrolled fire, including those in kitchen appliances.

I left the shameful sight of the toaster in the driveway for our mother to discover when she got back from work. She had much the same reaction, as did our father. And after that, we never again owned a toaster.

Just last week, my sister lamented the fact that she couldn’t make nachos. Without looking up from my book, I informed her that her decade-old mistake was what prevented that. She laughed, and reminded my brother to use the fire extinguisher next time.

ANYWAY.

For me, you would make a big dream of mine come true with the . It has been on my WL for a looooooooong time and it's definitely one of my most-wanted CWs. I never thought I might get my hands on one because it and the recolours usually go for more than 1k CSC and since I can't buy CSC (I have neither PayPal nor stripe) it's hard to reach this amount simply via buying CSC cards with sP.

As for what makes me smile, I will tell you one of the happiest moments in my life in recent history: I am currently doing an exchange semester in Taiwan which lead me to meet people from all over the world ( which is already something which makes me extremely happy) but last week I met up for lunch with a friend and she brought me my favourite chocolate imported just for me by her parents when they came to visit from Singapore. So she told her parents to get it because a few weeks back I mentioned that I miss the chocolate from my home country because it is not available here in Taiwan. I didn't even know that it is available in Singapore but to go to that extent and make chocolate cross borders just to make me happy is kindness I can't put into words! In the sense of joy, kindness and giving: happy luminaire <3
