I completely understand. Also I am just glad you are not upset that I went with a different artist for mine. After I saw Akita's coffee wolves I simply couldn't help but ask, "have you ever considered making a thylacine, and if not, would you? Great! How about a bunch of them!"

We decided to have them go off to the sides because their tails are quite long and because real thylacines were actually pretty big (there's a video of an Australian zookeeper and his dog playing with one, and when it stands up against the fence it's a little taller than the human on its back feet) :) Also, I wanted to be able to do Arrhal and Cordelia (they're a mated pair) together on a bg over the base avatar. :D

Oh the mated pair with a full bg - as in one item or you mean the pair as a companion? Either case would be sooo cool!

I mean taking a bg (say a wilderness one) and layering it over the human base avatar, then putting the Cordelia item and the Arrhal item (when it's done) on top of the bg. If you notice, we put them on different sides so we could layer them together.

Arrhal has been uploaded and I will submit when the last two slots are filled or the deadline hits, whichever comes first submitted. If a second batch fills prior to the item's approval I'll submit it for 500 per person also. Otherwise, I'll send invites. Depending upon whether or not it's still BF, it'll be 525 (if BF) or 600 (if not BF). If BF is over I'll put him up at 600 until slotters with invites pick him up, then he'll be 700 to the general public.

Cordelia has been given as a Lumi present to Weirdmageddon Tango players who already know her (and they know this) and to a number of people who have been in RPs with me where I was playing thylacines, people I'm friends with who love thylacines, and so forth.

But if you are my friend and I'm not aware that you love thylacines, let me know. If we are not already friends, feel free to request an invite before BF ends if you want the BF price.

Is black one of the colors that occurred in the population RL, or is it an RP one? What kind of range of coloration did they have in the wild?

There are no records of black ones during the colonial period, and there are no written records that predate the colonial period. The answer is "probably not". The colour variation seems to have been shades of brown ranging from grey brown to golden brown to red-brown.

However, while melanism isn't nearly as common in other animals as it is in say, big cats, I haven't read anything to suggest that it couldn't occur in a thylacine; it would just be a very rare mutation.

I've looked and looked for anything to suggest it only is found in eutherian/placental mammals, but have found nothing ruling it out in a marsupial.

Like a melanistic leopard or jaguar that still has spots, Arrhal still has stripes. :)

It makes perfect sense that it could occur, just rarely. Platypi can have very dark coats, for instance.

That also answers another question I was thinking of, in terms of how much written information we had on their coloration. It's sad that it doesn't turn out to be much. :/

Most of the indigenous people in Australia and Tasmania did not write things down. Unfortunately most of the colonists were not very interested in conserving or studying them, but most of the information available is in Robert Paddle's book The Last Tasmanian Tiger.
