Everything about your outfit seems planned and well organized I can't make HAs with bright, busy items without it looking a mess - you made a perfect job there, really impressive

The dress and the wings were both made by as tributes to a favourite Transformers character, so the matching there isn't sheer luck.

If you notice, I've kept to white, golden colours, a bright red, and greenish shades of blue. That's the trick to it! Pick a base item (in this avatar, it's her dress and her jet wings, which are by the same CW releaser and match) and make that your colour palette; you can add different shades of the same colours, but try and keep them similar --blues on the greenish side rather than the purplish side, warm golds, bright reds, and white.

The other trick to making bright busy avatars work is to be aware of movement. A lot of artists like to make items that are very dynamic--hair, capes, dresses, all blowing in the wind. The current fashion for haloes rather than full backgrounds also makes this all the more obvious.

When you combine them, though, the effect can be unfortunate unless you have everything flowing in the same direction--the avatar's hair tossed in the opposite direction from their cape, for example, is hard to look at.

The final key is layering carefully.

Everything that is in the background (but not the frame) should go behind the avatar. (If you are using a background with a body cutout, you'll have to do a lot of extra work if you want to use limb mods, so try to avoid that until you get comfortable.) You'll work from the lowest layer (event items like masks and anti-snowball charms and anti-hex items that you want to hide behind the avatar, especially if the art style doesn't match the outfit) so for instance I might place an outdoor background behind an indoor one with windows or an open door, and then use a colour filter over that so that the avatar stands out against the busy background--the filter will blur and likely darken the background a little.

Then you start with the avatar base. You should put back hair items, capes and halos behind it, then dress the avatar from the skin out, starting with contouring items, ink, anything else on the avatar's skin, and makeup/facial features, then layer items like you'd layer your own clothes--first socks/underwear, then shirts and pants/skirt or dresses and shoes, then accessories like belts. Your front hair (if you only use one hair item, it will be the front hair always) goes over your clothes though, and ears and hats go over that, also, remember to hide the base ears if you're using animal ears.

A lot of times when an avatar with lots of layers looks cluttered it's because the layers have got out of order and your eye knows something is wrong but it's hard to figure out what. Then suddenly you realise you forgot to use sheer gloves to pull the avatar's hands out in front of the dress so you oops have fingernails on your dress that aren't attached to anything.

The frame, if you're using one, goes last, but you may want to let some things come out over it if you want an Effect--companion animals coming out of the frame, or in this case, the Seeker's wings poking out of the frame.

I love the updo and the face. Those are pretty much the two things I always start with and repeat in avatars. The matching bits of plaid are neat.

That coat gives me big Doctor vibes, which is a very good thing to have.
