If we don't have a Renaissance Fair, a Trade Fair could cover everything that people want and a few extras too -
I'm sure other people can think of more ideas
Thanks. I've run out of ideas for now but others can add suggestions for shops
some more things for the trade/ren faire idea
Both: -tarot cards (full decks or single cards): xXxXxX -beeswax everything: lip balm, crayons, shoe polish, wax+stamp to seal letters with, hair pompay
Just ren faire ideas
Yesss to all the sustainability ideas mentioned, I would love to see them!
Rice flour and other gluten-free flours - do we have them? Gluten-free baking powder and pastries.
Flavoured soya milk cartons, to go with the little ones with the straws.
Soya yogurts. I'm not even lactose intolerant but I love the Alpro soya yogurts in dark chocolate.
I know we have tofu, but what about Quorn-style mycoproteins? Burgers, fish-less fingers, nuggets, etc.
Solar panels, composting toilets, wind turbines, composting stuff, guides to 're-greening' and making your house eco-friendly. Maybe these can be wearables? A compost pile, a roof with panels, a turbine in the background, etc.
Carob (yuk). Dairy-free chocolate?
I really hope to see different themes for Neugarten, or a shift to a more generalized theme than just veganism. Alegarten is gone because there was only so much you could do in terms of new items every year, and I feel the same would eventually happen again once vegan foods have been exhausted as Subeta items.
Love the ideas for a Ren Faire, craft fair, and sustainability festival.
I would like to see more international cuisines represented on Subeta as items. My pick is for a food and wine type of festival using all the Subetan lands (and space) as the theme.

i wonder who suggested that o: i heartily agree with that person/hobbit
more generally hopping on the medieval/ren fair idea, maybe drawing some inspiration from shows like Outlander and GoT and, ya know, hobbits.

That's OK for players who are interested in collecting food and wine but not much fun for everyone else. It could also be something of a problem for the artists because Shadowglen has two Unliving food shops, Rathskeller Inn sells pirate themed food and there's all kinds of international cuisine in the main food shop.
There should definitely be something about wine making, though, because some players have been begging for wine making equipment and suitable grapes and other fruit etc for a long time.
A food and wine festival theme wouldn't have to be limited to food and wine items only.
Sorry, I thought that went without saying since my suggestion only changes the theme of the holiday. Correct me if I'm mistaken, but wasn't Alegarten based on Oktoberfest and Neugarten a vegan offshoot of it? I don't see the issue with continuing with what's already a set precedent of a Subetan holiday that celebrates a type of eating culture?
Another idea, farmers market theme/inclusion. c:

Quick off-topic question, aren't we due for a Peka Park Food Fest this year?
Back on topic though.. I think I'd like some kind of sustainability/craft sort of festival for summer. It might just be where I'm living right now but we have events like this going on regularly in the summer. Events focused on getting people to garden with local plants and trees, events showcasing local artists, events for showcasing locally sourced cuisines. Something involving elements like that would be really fun and could get us some lore out of it as a bonus.
If they bring the food trucks back again, I could see them maybe combining that with Neugarten. It would kind of fit as a general sort of summer food festival thing, and if they adjust the theme of the Neugarten event for a certain year, maybe have each food truck sell a special themed dish or something. Could be interesting.
Alegarten/Neugarten has always been associated with food, and I'd love to keep that aspect. But I could also see it making sense to maybe have some sort of rotating themes like a ren-fest, farmer's market, craft fair, etc. Especially since Gunter is no longer specifically involved, it's kind of open to almost anything now.
honestly just... make it a summer fair/county fair/state fair/agricultural show/whatever your locality calls it. my local county fair changes its theme every year (they've done western and surfing and music and so on), so you could do the same with the subeta fair (the... riverside county fair? idk) and boom. no more "we do oktoberfest every year and now sausage is boring"
Some Food Truck food I've got stashed away for high prices has been selling, many other items are selling for less than what you can get it directly off the truck. It's true they come back every two years or so so they're due, but only a few of their items need to be released so it could wait a year.
Other than that I think adding them in would be cool.
Yes, it was Oktoberfest so the first couple of years gave us Bavarian style clothing plus various books. Neugarten was just food, though, which made it very dull for players who aren't particularly interested in food.
The country fairs with local cuisine and crafts etc could be a good way of expanding on Subeta lore. What is the national dress of the Tehb (Shadowglen) and Ji-Meneb (Darkside)? Quentin wears jeans and a fancy kind of t-shirt with a very interesting image on it. What is the significance of this image? What are their crafts and food items? Then there's the Ytivi and Tormirgard of Arctic Frost.
We know Subata has human settlers. Maybe they got here through magic portals which opened up over centuries of Earth history. (This would explain the origins of the Caribbean style pirates in Omen Islands). The Book Nook has language textbooks telling us who some of the settlers are. We know that Bavarians went to Veta Lake and Chinese, Japanese and Koreans went to Shegi Guo and there's definitely an Arabian influence for the Sacred Lands even though the Subetapedia says the Saheric are an indigenous race. (Maybe people from Arabic speaking countries settled there because it felt homelike. They introduced the hookah, the design style of the antique coffee sets, Earth spices and bastani ice cream.)
Other Earth humans according to the language textbooks are - French, Greek, Jewish, Italian, Russian and Spanish. Russia is a vast country with many different ethnic groups including Circassians, Tuva, Cossacks and Koryak. The English textbook would cover people from any English speaking country such as the USA, the UK, Australia and New Zealand etc.
One advantage of elaborating on the Earth settlers is that artists wouldn't have to worry about introducing variations of real world items because they can be easily explained such as Krampus items were inspired by the Bavarian settlers in the Veta Lake area.
Subeta culture may match or seem similar to human culture, but I don't agree that should be lore that they have our cultures because they've been colonized. There's a reason holidays here don't have names that match earthling ones.
Space travel exists in the subetaverse. While magical teleportation is possible, maybe humans just came in ships. does own the (now not operating) Neurogalaxy.
The Earth humans could have introduced things from Earth and, over the centuries, adopted native Subetan festivals while native Subetans borrowed some aspects from the Earth humans. Some other aspects of native Subetan cultures could have developed for similar reasons to equivalents on Earth such as the Saheric style of dress as explained in the Subetapedia
Veta Lake is diferrent, though. What are the odds of indigenous Subetans in Veta Lake inventing Bavarian clothing and having the Krampus?
When you go round the various shops, an astonishing amount of stuff is from Earth - eg fruit and veg in the Food Market and other plants and some fungi in Spells Galore. I was thinking along the lines of Subeta being an alternate dimension version of Earth so some of the flora and fauna is identical while others are unique such as Ikumoradeekanox.
I also thought that regional fairs would be an opportunity to showcase some aspects of indigenous Subetans. The only food for sale in Arctic Frost is ice cream and a few frozen pizzas. What do the Ytivi and Tormirgard live on? What food dishes did they invent before Earth humans arrived? Maybe any human settlers in Arctic Frost adopted all the local recipes.
