I'm sorry, I just realized I forgot to respond to the second part of your post/question!

When editing a post, it will not automatically reping anyone already pinged in the post. To make an existing reping, you have to edit twice.

So - post edit no. 1 - put a space between the user's name and the @ and save the post

Post edit no. 2 - remove the same between the name and the @ and save the post

Now the user will be pinged again! This also works the same for forum groups. Does that make sense?
