Welcome to Subeta! I think your HA is nicer than you give yourself credit for, though a few tips in case you weren't aware

• You can drag + drop the order that items appear on your avatar, depending on the item's position on the list to 'layer' items
• If you did not intend to layer 2 different hairs, you can remove the default one my making the default hair 'bald', but layering different wigs/hairs can also make fun new effects!

If you are interested in making profiles, SubetaLodge has some pre-mades which you can take a peep at as a starting point, and pet profiles sometimes have interesting layouts too (pet spotlight in the news)
