(i had that thought too and went looking for his post -- he says "he'll give a gift in return" but doesn't specify it being a gift left under our trees, wah)
Yeah, I'm guessing they'll probably have to run a script or something later to send the gift out to everyone who participated. So they may wait until someone will be online to monitor it in case of any issues.
Plus people had until 11:59 to participate, and they opened the trees right away this year, so any last minute participators would have been difficult to account for.
What do you think we might get? I have a feeling it will be a new item rather than an existing one, but what sort of thing exactly? And how do you think we'll be given it?

a new item, probably heavier on the morostide side than the lumi side like those bat ornaments from last year ("I’m of the opinion that our tastes will be just right for you") and it'll probably be distributed by a script like is thinking (with a thank you sidebar alert from jaxon and ian) or a click-this-link-to-claim kind of deal. i'm thinking it will be a script, though, because then they don't have to maintain a specific page for the gift.
that is the cutest use of the cookie village i've ever seen omg it works so well with the background!!
I guess I could keep refreshing the Item Directory, but at the same time I want it to be a surprise. Also, it might not show up in there anyway. The Melody Items didn't for some reason.

I've been wanting to use it, but couldn't find a creative way before lol.
Yeah, they keep the Melody items hidden to avoid spoilers until they get released officially, although you can see the wearables in the wardrobe a bit early if you look at all of the items and sort by added to site.
They may end up making this item hidden at first too until they're ready to give it out.

whether or not it'll show in the directory depends on how they do it, and we don't know when it'll be added so you might be refreshing for a few days o; jaxon and ian might be spending today and tomorrow with the dungarde... maybe subeta has a boxing day equivalent, idk :p
melody items are always hidden from the directory, same with monthly collections and staff items. if you want a sneak peek at the next few days' wearables, though, they're visible in the wardrobe (and judging from someone snagging an early cheese pizza from the free shop, you might see them in there, too)
