hypothetical question - if a CW artist were to apply would they still be allowed to make CWs or would it be a conflict of interest? (They would of course use completely different designs than any official art they also made)
- We pulled our artists , and out of the CW market, and while we let them do the odd commission they honestly end up not having the time or drive to do them - their item ideas just end up as official items instead for the most part. So it's not a total conflict of interest, but we'd expect to see far less participation naturally.
We probably wouldn't be ok with somebody doing hundreds or even dozens of things for the CW market, it would detract from the work here! (We're hiring to buy your ideas!)
definitely understandable! That makes a lot of sense considering it’s a full time position and if an artists strengths were in wearables, their talents would be put to official art in that category. I was mostly asking just to make sure it wouldn’t be against the TOS (: thanks for the info! <3
Pity I'm Canadian. And can't draw. Oh well.
On that same note would the artist be advised to also leave the overlay commission market? Assuming they could manage those commissions on top of doing official art full time. I know I couldn't. It'd completely wipe me out.
last time they posted about another staff position they mentioned is all about the paysheet and employment laws they have to follow. I'm guessing it's easier when all your employees are in the same country, for various reasons and think also safer to send and receive your paycheck.
Questions! Mostly based off of questions asked from the last round of applications:
[First Post] She states that the point quota for a part time artist would be 50-130 a month, at $12 an hour. It's been about six years since all that was posted, do you guys still use the point system for work? If so, what's the point quota for a full time artist, and would this be based off a daily/weekly/monthly deliverable?
[Item Point Values] Also working off the assumption that you guys still use the point system, what do point values look like for things like items with overlays? I'm sure it's all very arbitrary and depends on the item, but basically, how many points per hour is an artist expected to fulfill?
That's all I have for now, thank you!
I really hope this means we can get some more pet artists, aaaa. ;o; gimme all them new pets and colors <3 goodluck to those who apply!
- Our staff artists still do overlay commissions, and external commissions - as long as they're not drawing for other petsites we're fine with freelance illustration work on top of this job! You're right in that most of our artists just don't have a lot of time for that on top of what they do here :)
- Yes, we do still use a points system. I'm not comfortable divulging all of the details in public, but a full-time artist is expected to attain 180-240 points per month. Although it's technically a monthly deliverable, we do not let our artists upload everything in one go and ask for the work to be spread out in weekly check-ins. Only items are 1.5 points, wearables all have different point values depending on their detail. Pets and NPCs are different point amounts. Our artists do a mixture of things based on what's required in order to hit a points total.
Some artists draw faster and can hit their points total in fewer hours - and we have a process in place for that too.
That makes sense. Thank you.
Good luck to anyone having a go.
Has it really been six years already since the last hiring process for artists? Wow, hard to believe!
I just finished tailoring my CV and all that good stuff and sent everything in - good luck to you other artists trying out! :D
Darn. -wrong country- -worked for Nutrinopets back in the day- T-T

Consider this my application:

When can I start?
It all has to do with taxes and and government approval. In the US, employers must report employee income to the IRS and withhold federal and state taxes. They also have to report to social security and make contributions to it, as well as help fund state unemployment insurance and state workers’ compensation insurance. Most other countries work the same way so you could get in trouble for not reporting income to your local government because you are working for a foreign government in their eyes.
When I was temporarily working in another state, I had to report taxes for both my home state and the state that I was temporarily working in. This same thing probably applies if you are living in a US territory.
sorry if this is a weird question, but I'm having trouble finding good references for the line art, since most of it is coloured.. what would you say the line art/prefferred line style is? all I can really tell is black outlines and colored lines for inner details, but im not sure if the lines are super crisp or a little soft or what

- Items are drawn at 128x128 pixels and once they're done we flatten the image, sharpen it a bit and then resize to 64x64. Black lineart in general, yes. I use a hard round pressure size 3 brush (one of the basic ones in Photoshop) to draw my items, and I don't really colour lineart (I'll usually use shading to define things if the lineart looks too heavy).
We all have different methods to get to the finished item so it's hard to give you an exact method, but your aim is to match what's on site.
Am I allowed to ask if there's a particular reason for the opening? Did someone on the art team leave?

a couple more questions - would a link to a Dropbox folder be alright for a portfolio? Also, are y’all requiring references as part of the resumé or should we leave them off/are they not necessary? (And if so how many/what forms of contact do you prefer?)
- We've had a few artists leave us since the last time we opened up applications, so sort of! Mostly it's just time for some new ideas :)
- A dropbox folder is fine, although I would suggest it not being very full of things. You essentially want a folder with your best representations of what you can do. References are likely not required for this job, we'd discuss further if we needed them at the interview stage.
