I know several users who wouldn&;t really bother with the quest-a-thon if the prize wasn&;t a petslot and I would be on the fence with participating too.

Same for me. I mean, since I have seen a good number of "non-pet-people" helping us so that we could reach our goal I would most probably return the favor even if the prize would, let's say, be a Wig I would never use but still I wouldn't be happy if a pet slot wasn't part of the prizes.

I am actually really fond of your idea of an "choose your reward"-thing.

Cheers! iirc, staff wants to keep the main quest-a-thon reward as something non-transferable and account-bound, so there most likely won't be item rewards. But a new hairstyle unlock, a pet stat boost, or even more wardrobe layers could be something that strikes the interest of the rest of the userbase without being tangible and tradeable. -shrug-

Why aren&;t there non-wearable custom items just for TC purposes?
I'm too tired from hospital duty to come up with a coherent post (just that I am more of a pet person than a wardrobe person, despite what my activity in the Custom Wearables subforum might tell you), but I probably wouldn't bother with CWs at all if we had THIS option.

There was a time when my involvement in the CW market was purely for gaining items for my treasure chests. It's still around 75% of the reason why I bother with them.

About a billion years ago there was a way to get custom items onto the site but I can't remember if it was a one off fundraiser, just a short lived thing or why it stopped.

I know for sure was a user submitted item because I draw the original art for it. Pretty sure was also a custom item. The item IDs are pretty low (2418 and 1402 respectively), so I'm thinking that was a stupidly long time ago. Might be worth making a topic on the suggestion board?

[edit]Just ran a search on my PC and I still had the original file (not a hoarder really...) and it looked like it was created 2004. So it really is a stupidly long time ago that custom/user items where a thing.[/edit]

Not sure how valuable my input is, given my supreme lack of playtime on this site in the past few years, but I feel like a renewed interest in pets from the site might do a bit to bring back old burnouts like me. While I have nothing to propose, I do love the idea of more functions to interact with your pets. Little pet "adventures" and gimmicks like that just tickle me. And I have on opposition to more obvious TC fodder items. There are so many things like the recent(?) tools that, while I have no purpose for them now, you better believe I'm hoarding them because what if

Also, as it stands right now, being a pet person is heavily entrenched in a user's own creative endeavors (or success in paying other people to do that for them). Back in the day when I had a lot of free time and energy, I loved drawing art, coding profiles, and making stories for my pets. I don't have a lot time nor energy these days, so my pets are, as it is, pretty badly neglected. And as a result, so my time on this site dwindles. But man, if this site had little pet-centric gamey features that I could play on the train on my commute? That would get my attention 100%. Pokemon Amie is a pretty good analogue, I think. There's not an extreme benefit to taking time out from battling to groom and play piddly minigames with your pokemon, but you better believe I do that shit on the reg anyway. I love pets. I love playing with and interacting with my wacky little creatures, even if and sometimes especially if I assign them humanoid characters in my head.

I dunno where I'm going with any of this but apparently I feel quite strongly about it?

And I have to say, it's a relief to see this much of a pushback against the seasonal-exclusive pet color releases. I have absolutely detested that trend for years on years now. You know how disheartening it is to be pining for a revamp of painfully old pet art (that would otherwise, in theory, fit your pet's character pixel perfect), only to see that oops, we're only releasing two bloodreds this morostide. Better luck next year! Like, I'm not opposed to having all the spooky pet colors released more consistently in October. It's a fun theme to keep to. But if an artist finishes off an astounding graveyard revamp in April, release it in a timely manner. I'm only speaking for myself here, but I don't even need justification for it. Just make a news post saying "here's a spooky pet color for no got damn reason!" I'll eat that shit up, thanks very much.

Subeta used to be a pet site, all they had were the pets, games, and forums. Fast-forward a decade, now the site is riddled with ads and they're pumping out Premium content for people to spend money on, while their original intent pet game is just an excuse for them to make money, like every other game. I'm done with Subeta, it was one of the first games I ever played and now it's not even a ghost of its former self.

I logged on to find a torrent of notifications to let me know my pets' names were stolen, and then was immediately asked if I wanted to spend Premium Currency to buy a 'limited' item from the shop...

Done with this place forever Any game would be better than Subeta, unless you're just really into human avatars and spending money

Adblock if the ads bother you. I've seen staff even suggest as much. If you're on a mobile phone or a tablet, there are customCSS codes available on the forums that you can use in place of a browser adblocker.

The Hustler's banner can also be removed with customCSS if he bothers you. He's been added as a feature to keep an influx of old, inflated CSC items available and accessible to the userbase.

You get free renames for every inactive petname of yours that was taken by another user. You can also try to get those petnames back if the user that took any of them goes inactive. If your username had been taken, you would also have a free username change.

The feature to obtain petnames from inactive accounts has been around for at least 5 years, probably longer because my memory is hazy.

I'm sorry that you lost your petnames, but the inactive account thing has been around for at least 5 or 6 years. It's not new and it's not done to cashgrab. It's done to prevent inactive users from keeping petnames in limbo, as is the case on Neopets.

if the site wanted to encourage blocking of ads, why have them at all? People have to use custom coding to remove the site feature that tries to hustle them for premium currency? Names can only be taken via CSC = money none of those seem like ploys for money?

I'm not saying name-stealing/account deleting is a new feature, I'm saying it's a cash grab feature, which is absolutely is. It's not to be 'fair' to newer players or to keep names in rotation, it's another feature Subeta can charge users to have. Plain and simple. Subeta already had my money, I went on haitus and came back to find my time and money spent has no value, only the next customer.

To gain revenue from people who are not bothered by ads and want to help the site. The ads aren't invasive for me and there were times when I kept adblock off. At this point, I'm not sure how much revenue is even made from ads, but I'll leave that up to staff to decide if it's worth keeping or not.

The Hustler is a character. He's not "hustling" you out of premium currency. It's your choice to spend it, as with everything else on the site. The popup is annoying and gets in the way, so some users have provided a customCSS code for those of us who aren't interested in seeing what the Hustler has to offer. Users who want to buy from him can still access him in the Cash Shop. So I... fail to see the problem.

You can rename the pets with taken names for free. I don't know how many times people need to repeat that until it sinks in. Maybe you should try it yourself and convince yourself that way?

Ads are not new. When I joined 13 years ago - and your account is about the same age as mine - I clearly remember a banner on the bottom of the website they used for advertising. They made it so non-GA users saw a total of like, two more ads years ago, as well.

And about your pet names being "stolen"? If you haven't logged on in a year, that's not only on you, but in the past your account would have been deleted, forever and you would have made to a make an entirely new account and start completely over. You can change your pet names with "stolen" names for free. Besides pet names, your account lost nothing.

It sucks that it happened, but there is a certain amount of irony in the fact you are complaining about the site not being like it "used" to be, when in fact your account would have been completely erased in the past. Subeta made it so accounts only went "inactive" so people could come back and not have to start completely over. If subeta isn't your thing anymore -- which if you were gone for that long, it probably hasn't been for awhile -- that's fine, but all of the things you mentioned are either beneficial or easily fixed/hidden, nor is it really relevant to the discussion of pets specifically. :/

There was a time when my involvement in the CW market was purely for gaining items for my treasure chests. It's still around 75% of the reason why I bother with them. Yes, this! I know CSC wearables and CWs bring a ton of money to the site. But I don't want the staff to overlook the fact that some of the items were bought by pet people for their pet TCs. I'm not sure what the percentage is, and I know it might be hard to estimate. But you can't just determine the spending power by the pet community solely based on pet related items and functions. We buy wearables for pets too. I know 95% of the expensive CSC related wearables I bought were for TCs, and not my wardrobe.

@ Weasel They were way before when I made this account, but I remember reading about the custom items on the forums. I also remember the idea was brought back a while ago, probably around the beginning stage of CWs. But it was shot down (I'm not sure why or by who).

Anyways, I'm already seeing some improvement, and I'd like to thank the quick response by the staff. Let's hope we can keep it that way :). I only hope the best for the pet community and subeta in general. I'd really hate to see the pet section of the site being a burden to the site.

[edit]ps. i'd really like to see a Quest-A-Thon soon too, and I like the idea of having a few different prizes that can be picked by users based on their interests.

I’m kind of embarrassed to admit, but I often forget this is a pet website. I usually just see it as the place I come and RP in the Wizarding cult

I don’t have any suggestions but I definitely agree with adding more focus on pets

I hate to admit it, but if there wasn't a pet slot as a prize (or prize option - that is a good suggestion to have different options for those who don't want pet slots :)) for the quest-a-thon, I wouldn't put much effort in either! I'm on my max for MC and CSC pet slots, so the quest-a-thon and loyalty boxes are the only way I can continue to grow my (not so) little 'army' of pets! 😊

The pet slot for quest-a-thons are the only consistent prize. I'm working with and on coming up with some rad other prizes to go along with it, but I will die on the hill of making sure the quest-a-thon always has a pet slot prize.

I wasn't around when Subeta had that, but I remember people alluding to certain items being "custom" in that sense. Debil-Os, the non-CS Vampire Trunk, and a few others come to mind. I imagine it's added work for the staff artists, though. While I don't mind the resulting custom item being restockable, I wish it came with a free copy, since I don't really have time to RS these days.

Yeah, it was so long ago and I don't remember much myself, plus I take long hiatuses rather often.

I can see how it could potentially be more work, especially if a lot of people jumped at the chance. Plus 10% to the volume of CWs already needing vetting not so much of a problem(?), 200% obviously more so. It'd also probably be hard to know in advance how much demand there'd be and therefore how much of an increased workload/problem would be caused.

Still an interesting possibility and it'd be nice to know if anyone remembers why it was shot down as a suggestion in the past/removed as an option years ago.
