No, trophies are not used to police things. It's up to the judges to try and catch attempted cheating. The one thing trophies actually do enforce programmatically is they prevent the same pet (determined by pet ID) from winning twice. That means if somebody wants to win twice with the same content (which is against the rules), they have to go through the trouble of moving it onto a different pet - which, due to spotlight rules, they also have to go through the hassle of making the correct species/color/etc, moving over the treasure chest, etc.

I think 's argument is that allowing users to remove trophies would make it easier to do this specific form of cheating. Instead of going through the hassle of recreating the pet and moving everything over, users could click a button to remove their trophy and then re-enter it with basically zero effort. While there are still people who attempt to cheat despite this, the amount of effort it currently takes to do so acts as a deterrent. It doesn't act as a deterrent against plagiarism/theft, which sadly still happens sometimes, but it does deter someone from trying to win with the same character multiple times, since they have to move everything to a new pet instead of being able to just re-enter it right away. So the way I interpret 's point is that implementing this feature would make it too easy to re-enter the same pet without changing anything, and the judges are not equipped to deal with the potential increase in attempted cheating since we don't have screenshot history or stuff like that to help them check with.

i see... level understanding has increased! hehe (no but really thank you for explaining all that!)

I do think it's a little ironic tho that what the trophies do DO, is what we are trying to get them to not do xD lmao

If we don't want IDs to win twice and that's what the trophies do.. I get it but I wonder if it is really that big of a problem though that they would have to continue using the trophy to function in such a way. Because we do want ids to be able to win twice in this scenario. With name changes and swapping and fun stuff, the site has really grown :)

in my head I wonder, is someone really going to win and then remove the trophy, win, remove, win, remove? idk. to me that feels like it could be done now with css on any profile from any pet. (hassle as a deterrent or not lol!) But that's also why I suggested limiting it to 1 removal and for csc or something to make it a big deal so people won't or can't abuse it. Right now the limit is 0. bump it up 1? ;) jk jk

I also understand there is a difference between winners who already won with a pet who change the profile and would want to win again with a different name/concept and winners who move an already-won pet concept onto another id to try and win again. I'll be honest I really haven't ever seen that. I guess I feel like this change if it was limited and cost actual money, it would not be that big of a deal tbh. I don't think ppl will come out of the woodwork to try and win again on an old id because (hassle or not) they could already do the same thing with a different id and not have to pay money rn.

thanks for the friendly dialogue btw! :)

Mmm.. to prevent people from repeatedly winning with the same content you'd need to implement a system going forward that captures a screen shot and the css code and tags it with info like pet ID, owner ID, current pet name, and probably some other useful things I can't think of off the bat.

Retroactively capturing this information is where it gets rough. There will be a ton of broken profiles where screen caps won't be very useful to check for cheating, which means time spent digging through the css to find the story and tracking down layout images. And then there's all the ones that are either significantly changed from their winning profiles (I know one person who did this simply because their show off profile was a pain to add information to) or just removed their css for any number of reasons.

Removing or making spotlight trophies into 'legacy' trophies might also need to be a case by case queue in order to check to profile to make sure it's really new content, which again eats up staff time.

As someone who doesn't want to have a ton of pets to begin with, I'd like to be able to remove trophies or make them legacy for when I have an awesome new idea. I also don't have an issue if someone completely revamps a pet winning again. But sadly, I'm not sure there's an elegant solution to the problems it raises.

I like the idea of it being removed (wiping everything, honestly, including the coding) when adopted in theory, but I could still see this being abused pretty easily by just sending to a friend and having them send it back. I don't think there's a huge market for this sort of thing truth be told, but it's complicated for quite a lot of reasons!

I'd like to be able to remove spotlight wins.

He' already been mentioned, haha, but... I got a really low ID a couple years ago, and I wanted to move my darling Thief onto it since he's my favorite pet. I used this as an opportunity to reorganize his huge TC, redo his profile, and renominate him for spotlight. Which was apparently against the rules, I guess. I'd love to be able to remove the spotlight win from his old ID, which another character currently sits on. I'd like to do the same with Character since I took the guide on that pet down after it was abused.

Neither of those pets reflect what they won with, and Character will be blank forever unless I adopt him out. I don't really give two shits about spotlight anymore and don't really see myself submitting with the current rule system. It's not really about nominating those characters on those IDs, although if I had stats on them or an ID I liked I certainly wouldn't want to move them. The name swap argument doesn't work in that case, or if someone wanted a specific born date for their pet. All of these things can add to someone's character, and it's fair that they would want to show it off. For my pets, I just don't think they need to have the trophies anymore, but I wouldn't mind having the opportunity to nominate Thales if I got over all of my gripes with how spotlight is run. I honestly don't think this is something that people would abuse that much and it would be easy enough to catch IMO. When Thief won the second time, people noticed and made comments about it. But like honestly, who cares enough about 2 seconds of fame on a pet site to really go through repeatedly abusing the system.

I'd love for this to be possible, because I adopted a pet with a low ID who has a Spotlight win and the trophy really irritates me. The name and everything else about that pet has been changed, and I have no intention of trying to win Spotlight with it myself, or with any other pet of mine, for that matter. I've never liked the Spotlight since its conception and I never plan to participate, so the trophy is an eyesore to me.

I realize that I can hide it with coding, but I'd rather just be rid of it since I didn't earn it and don't particularly like what it represents. Nothing against people who enjoy the Spotlight, of course! It's just not my thing. |D

pretty much. I adopted a pet from a friend who had won PS previously but I feel like if I move the name to another pet it won't be the same.

8 years already since the first one?!

I'm all for removing wins, or any system that can make pets participate again after getting a new owner.

If it's not removing and not to mess up the records of the wins and dates, in my opinion, it shouldn't be a problem to give a 2nd new and fresh profile to those pets and the new owner and to keep the old one as the "legacy profile" with the win and they just can choose what they want to display..

I think there are too many issues that have been brought up. The burden to staff is too high compared to the only-very-slight convenience to a few users. Not worth pursuing.
