Hey everyone! We have been looking into your reports and figuring out how best to address them. We identified specific, significant bottlenecks that affected site performance, and have been making changes yesterday and today to address them. The site instability and problems you experienced yesterday and today - including the moments of downtime - were due to us working through the server updates. We expect that these changes will result in major speed-ups once we get all the initial bumps smoothed out.
I am doing my best to keep the status site updated as we continue our work. Please be aware however that even if you don't hear from us for a few hours, it doesn't mean we're ignoring the issue, it just means we've got our heads buried in the code :)

Over the past few days, we've managed to almost halve the time it takes to build avatar images, which has been the most time consuming part of our code. We also added made changes to luminaire trees to speed them up, especially during the image generation.
We are continuing to monitor and make improvements/changes where needed. Some things, like the wardrobe's item search, will require more time to make the changes because of how complex the code is. So for things like that, realistically it will take a while, but I can assure you it's not forgotten or being ignored.
Today's lag seems to be related to the forums because there is a huge increase of people viewing and posting on them, due to the forum giftboxes and fairies being given out. We're also seeing increased activity in other areas of the site related to last-minute gift buying, so that part at least should be temporary.
Thanks for your patience, and for your reports! I want you to know our efforts to improve site speed are ongoing and I'll keep giving little updates on what we're up to so you can see what things are being done. :)

I've been casually monitoring the site today, and it doesn't look like the lag is caused by anything we did - or anything we have an easy fix for. It does seem at least related to last-minute shopping, as said - we are seeing a lot of activity on both the user shops and luminaire tree pages.
I also noticed increased database activity on avatar images. I'm not able to check if there is something wrong with the server itself, but I've increased the cache time on avatar files to try to reduce the database strain. We'll be sure to look into this more when we're back after the holiday break :)
[edit] I also added a bit of caching to sales history, which might help a little bit. Also, is right that the wishlists page has been busy yesterday and today. It's too late to address it right now but I've made a note to fix it for the future.

Shoutout to our wonderful overlord for fixing the problems earlier today despite the holiday. He really loves us, guys :') And of course shoutout to all of the other staff members I saw trying to help even though we're all doing holiday things still.

Somebody (or maybe multiple people) was spamming the Potion Lottery a ridiculous amount. Like, enough to overload the database. It was straining the database significantly more than quests and user shops were, which is... impressive, to say the least.
There is now a timer on Potion Lottery ticket purchases.
