Going from full size to 500x500 isn't so bad and I just sharpen to make sure it looks nice and polished. But for overlay size it definitely makes a difference even if you have to be careful to avoid making it all pixelly. And yeah, adjustment layers and masks sometimes break because it's a day ending in Y, so it's always better to have those flattened and your gradients saved to the palette.

If you're not using it, after sharpening you can go to edit -> fade (last thing you did) to fade the sharpen back as much as you need so you don't end up over sharpening. The option will only be there for the last action you performed.

If I was in your situation, of needing to keep the layers, there&;s "Create New Document from Current State" (google will explain better than me). Which is a stupidly useful sounding function that I just found out existed and will very likely be utilizing in future.

- I know right? The bane of Photoshop, the function you've been wanting for the last 3 years hidden in a menu you don't use and have never seen mentioned.

Speaking of which, "fade" was not something I was aware of, I'll definitely try that out along with the sharpening, thanks.

It's just dawned on me that I'm derailing your thread, apologies for that, should have switched to comments.

I'm a lurker too, and I wanted to say thank you for sharing this 'Create New Document from Current State' tip

I've been using photoshop daily for years and didn't know this was a thing until now. It will be so useful.

@ frederick If you offer I can't refuse... I have endless ideas for you

Let me go to my computer and I'll post infos!!!

EDIT:

Ok infos

Character: Infini Reference link: (This is gonna be description heavy again. If my idea is too vague let me know I have other design

Base idea is to take Pollack and have this sort of design applied to him.

Details:

-Change the colors to dark purple, red and black (kind of rift colors?) -Change the mask to have much longer 'spikes' and a halo -Add a bunch of wings and jewels -The 'body structure' is to be like Pollack, but it can be much, much longer and 'twisty' if needs be

Description: The character is going to be the 'god' version of Pollack. tl;dr Pollack is the only being that knows the secret of how the universe was created. He eventually accidentally uses this secret, causes the death of the current universe and creates a new one, so he becomes the 'God' of this new universe.

Line Preference: Vector

Additional Information: As with the previous two overlays you did for me, you have creative freedom to change the linked refs as you see fit. This is just base concept and ideas.

Hrmm, do you want him do have a cohesive body like Pollack normally does, or smoke and wings bound by metal like the FR image? I can try to be more decorative with the metal too, rather than it being a golden rib cage.

Kind of between the two? Like not necessary just smokes and wings, but not as solid as Pollack

And being more decorative with the metal is perfect!

(Edited since It seems like I always make the stupidest grammar mistakes. I know how to English I swear)

Sorry this took so long. The first version of this was a bust.

And I can't ever English right even though it's the only language I speak.

So.. this is kind of busy and detailed, and while I think it looks nice at larger sizes I am not so sure how I feel about it as a 200x200 overlay. Easiest 'fix' might be removing one or two sets of wings. Either way, they'll have to contrast with the body when colored, so I might do something like make them scarlet red maybe with some gold, and the body black and purple with crimson. I am thinking his rings should change from blue/purple to gold and be shining rather than metallic. The outer lines should probably be .75, since I think they would be too weak at .5. I might be able to provide an image larger than 500x500 if you're pining for one.

God this looks so good

I'm not too too worried about the overlay looking a bit cramped. I'm going to use the fullsize version for the profile and make something a bit like Genese where the art is big and he's glowing (and I'll prob make a gif where the stars on his body shines or something)

Maybe, if it's doable (and I certainly don't mind paying a bunch of extra for this), Could I get a version where the wings are more extended and not in a box? The current version can be submitted as the overlay, and the other used as the profile art

The only change I'd like on the current version would be to make the mask look 'at us' (like in Pollack's current overlay), this way we can see the halo and everything isnt 'flat' (and since he's not like, a material creature, his body can bend un unatural ways)

Sorry it took a while to do the edits- I pulled a bunch of the elements onto different layers to make editing easier. I'm actually partial to the 3/4 face :P I made it elongated and a bit flattened in order to give him a more alien and less friendly look.

And yeah, this will be expensive. I don't even know what to charge between all the details and two versions of the wings.

That's perfect!

How does 4000 csc sound? This is at least Double the amount of work with all the details and such. I can even do 5000 csc. Just tell me your price!

EDIT (cauze I just looked at it all on a big screen):

You do have a point about the face being better in 3/4. Looking at it on the big screen it looks a bit weird straight towards the viewer.

Would it be possible to give the mask a bit more dimensions/dragon-like freatures? A bit like the pixel at the top of my posts. It's a variant of Pollsck, so it doesnt have the keep the same face structure/expression per say

(im so sorry Im so picky with this boy, he's like... The culmination of the 'story' of 20 ish of my pets ahaha)

Facing which direction? Head on, there's not really a lot of detail to give the mask a lot of shape and not have it look weird so it might come off better in 3/4 view.

I'm actually pretty flattered that you asked me to draw your baby for you.

Yup I was thinking 3/4 view with more shape!

And I legit waited to get a slot from you specifically before getting art for this bab. He's rather complex (and story wise he's sooo important) and I knew I wanted your art for him.

Is this a good shape? I wanted to keep the smiling eyes and mouth elements to help him stay at least a bit recognizable.

And edit because this may be of interest to you: https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2018/10/adobe-bringing-the-photoshop-to-the-ipad-next-year/

I can't stand touching the screen or even paper while drawing (cintiqs give me the heebee jeebees), so I'll stick to a plain old slate. But there are probably a ton of people who are waiting to see if Adobe does this well or it's another case of Uh-DOH!-be.

I really like that! He looks older and wiser, which works well with the theme.

I consulted with a few friends, and the (final) change would be to make his expression friendlier (he's a benevolent creature)

(thank you so much for working with me on these nitpicky changes pffttt)

Edit: wow. If adobe actually does this right (like give us a full featured software and not some watered down version), it will be a major game changer for the industry. I'm more of a graphic designer, so I'll die without my keyboard shortcuts and my mouse to use the pen tool, but I know plenty of artists who already switched to the Ipad pro.

Yeah, I can't imagine working without one hand on the keyboard for hot keys, shortcuts, and contextual menus. But I'm in that weird area where I'm no graphic designer, but I rely on graphic design and photo retouching tools so much for everything I do. Every little cheat to make things look better.

Yes!! Perfect now!!!

Right? I use shortcuts so much, especially when I do monotonious task like vectorization (which is what I'm doing right now). I do a lot of photo editing too and the pen tool is my life, so I'm not sure how using photoshop on a tablet would benefit me.

Pen tool is love. Pen tool is life. Pen tool is how these are inked.

...And are you sure? You can think on it over night if you want.

Trade is here- Trade Lot And I'm going to take your offer of 5000 csc. I don't know how long this will take, but it shouldn't be over a week. You can always poke me for progress shots in the meantime to check in on how things are going. And did you want a version larger than 500x500? I can probably get you one around 750x750.

Yup totally sure of this version! It fits with the character.

And take your time. This is a real beast of an overlay (I'm weeping a bit thinking of using the pen tool to line all this. Do you like in photoshop or illustrator? I like photoshop's pen tool a lot better than illustrator's) 750x750 would be perfect, if it's doable!
