...When staff put in like a PETA gimmick where if you didn't feed your pet and tried to go into the wardrobe your HA would get splashed with paint (this may have been an April Fool's thing but I can't remember tbh lmao) ...When some meme item enraged a bunch of basement-dwelling chan goblins so staff gave everyone a Longcat wearable out of spite and then loaded up the donation center so everyone could get as many Longcats as they could carry ...That weird counterfeit Subeta clone that happened during a site split from an angry ex-staff person and staff had to put up a bunch of warnings telling people not to go there until they eventually got hold of the other domain

What's your favorite weird Subeta memory? This is NOT intended to be a drama thread or whatever, just remembering generally weird or goofy things from Subeta's past like lookin' back on our high school yearbooks (the Longcat thing was funny as hell though, props). Anyway this entire thread was prompted by me remembering the PETA thing and wondering if that was real lmao, does anyone else remember that???

i dont remember the wardrobe paint (priceless btw XD) but i remember the others....not even then i understood what the whole Longcat thing was about, i had to read up on it lol

• when Elwood had his own Token Shop.

• when galleries were unlimited (double-snif)
• when winning Item Hunt didn't lock you out of ever playing again FOREVER.

Oh, and I remember there used to be another pet site before Subeta ... started with an 'N' I think. ;)

I will always miss my good old custom avatar that you could have as a GA user before the Wardrobe was introduced.

I remember when there were no HAs; instead, you had a collectible icon, sort of like Neo used to do. I /kind of/ miss that concept tbh.

PFFFFT, oh shit, the Longcat/4chan DDoS marathon that went on for... over a week, I think? It ended when they managed to get in and stick the Fresh Prince intro onto the main site, iirc. Longcat was changed into Draconis. And to this day, my first thought when I read the term DDoS is 4chan.

Ohgods, that mess! I think they got super mad that Keith wouldn't dance to the tune of their fiddle, so they decided to try and hold the site hostage. Thankfully, that plan backfired.

13 years of being here, and counting. There's a few of us old farts left! I believe Stijn was posting about Subeta either on Neopets or on Venetopia forums (RIP, glory days of petsites), I got curious and signed up.

My favorite old Subeta memories... When GAs were like... 50k, when having 5m to your name was damn near impossible, custom items... When all the pets were turned into Keith pets for one April Fools day. THE MARQUEE. The scrolling marquee at the bottom of the page!

But my oldest Subeta memory is... the site resetting not long after I joined. Back in 2004-ish, played for... a couple of weeks or so, just enough to get me super into the site (Subeta was amazeballs even back in the day). I think Keith was doing some coding, or server upgrades and shit happened - everyone's accounts went POOF. Cue mad refreshing for when the site would be up so I could register again. x)

... Man, I miss the old 64x64 avatars. ._.

my favorite subeta memory is back when the forums & the IRC channel were still super active. i made a lot of great friends that way, some of whom I still actively talk to outside of subeta. now i believe most of the social scene on this site congregates in the shoutbox? which i don't have the time or the patience for, lol.

i remember the raid and the site split vividly; oh geez, i could go on about both. neither were particularly "fun" for anyone, but looking back, the drama is pretty hilarious now.

That split incident happened right after I joined and the confusion over using .ws or... org? Maybe net? was very intimidating. Glad I stuck through it.

Ahaha, yes. I definitely remember the 4chan raids. IIRC, they all got SUPER pissed over Subeta "stealing" their Longcat meme, and proceeded to raid the forums/DDOS the site. I think there were also accusations of Subeta making money off the Longcat item?

It's pretty hilarious in hindsight when you consider how widespread and monetized memes are these days.

I also remember when the Subeautique was first introduced. No invitations were needed, and there only like.... two, maybe three lines available? And it was located with all the other main shops, so we were basically killing each other just to RS some items.

I remember when Subeta used to go down for days on end due to lag and server issues and people would chill out on a fan site and just chat away and wonder when the site would be coming back.

Having two different profile types before the old one got phased out completely.

Having to sacrifice a wardrobe layer in order to wear two items on the same layer.

The thing I miss most that I remember is throwing snowballs - This one time I had about 20 on my head at once

There was a smiling snowball on top with a magical horned snowball on top of that - they lined up PERFECTLY

Oh man, I hated that thing! It would be like a 'frame' around your HA that was all black and white and red and said something like didn't feed pets or whatever.

and if im not mistaken long ago there was another pet species that was a penguin? it looks like one of common experiments (but less roboty)
