Ehhh could be better, I've been distracted both with napping all the time (new baby) and recently I picked up a copy of Monster Hunter: World so I keep playing that instead of Subeta. I'm doing a last minute panic to try and pick up the slack, and I think I'll be okay maybe?

Q: So like, can very new babies not babble because they just don't know how to yet, or are their vocal chords actually underdeveloped and they can't?

I admire and envy your practicality when it comes to material possessions. I wish I could let go of most of my crap. I feel weighed down by it. And I hate to admit I have some stuff I'm kinda sentimental about. It's the worst. I hate feelings, they're dumb. lol

A: Without researching it, I honestly don't know. I'd guess they don't know how yet...because as far as vocal cords go, they sure can scream right from the get go. lol

...oh, you're probably right, duh XD Although lemmie tell you, new baby cry is an adorable squeak compared to a three year old cry, or even a one year old cry. They cry at the top of their lungs and it's just so muted and squeaky compared to older kids.

Actually I decided to look up your question. From what I can tell the vocal cords are fully formed - but as a note crying does not really involve the vocal cords. Their muscle coordination is not developed enough for babbling and cooing, their crying and other assorted noises do provide exercise to help the muscles. Babies usually start making purposeful noises between 3-5 months.

Huh, I found that surprising and looked it up too. It's hard to find definitive information on it. But I did come across this article which seems to imply some newborn cries are voiced, though not all. But what I find even more interesting than that question is the fact that their cries have a melody which follows the patterns of their native language. I never would have guessed that newborns cry differently depending on the language of their parents.

Lypsyl - I've never heard of that movie. Now I'm going to have to check it out!

oh that is interesting. I never came across that when I looked it up. I wonder what effect being multi-lingual has or things like being tone-deaf. I have a tin-ear and a bilingual mother. But I also didn't cry much.

But yeah, it was surprisingly hard to find a definitive answer to the question. A lot of info on the types of early speech and when they happen, but very little on why.

a: Nope! There isn't enough money in all the world to induce me to try that. Probably because, growing up on the farm, I occasionally ran into partially developed eggs and that was really, really gross.

Question: Is there some food that you've always wanted to try but could not for whatever reason?

Huh! Thanks for looking into it. My little guy coos sometimes, but mostly he just stares...I wonder how much his primary cry sounds like a cat's whiny meow is due to the fact that we have awhiny cat XD (his is a lot cuter than the cats, though.)

A: There's a lot of Japanese cuisine I'd like to try - in Japan. Haven't been able to go yet, so that's why not.

@ Lypsyl That's a good question! I think I'm pretty tone-deaf too. At least, every attempt I've made to learn an instrument has been a disaster and I couldn't sing to save my life lol. And I don't think I cried much either. My son cried A TON, like all the damn time, and he's good at music and singing. Hmm. Edit: Oh, I forgot about the bilingual aspect of the question. I'm not from a bilingual background and I don't think I had much exposure to languages other than English as a baby. So I don't know why I'd be tone-deaf. Maybe just crying a lot as a baby helps with that? I didn't even speak a word until I was 3. My mom took me everywhere trying to figure out what was wrong with me lol.

@ Rii The similarity in their whiny cries could be due to the fact that your cat may be imitating a baby's cry to trick you into feeding it. Cats are ridiculously sneaky lol.

A: Video games

The city I currently live in. Its large enough to have all the amenities I want and small enough that I can get to wherever I'm going in less than an hour. If I had to pick a different city, then I'd go for Reykjavík, Iceland, or Nuuk Greenland, but both are too small for my taste, though I like the idea of living in either country.

Yeah, Iceland is pretty perfect. Great weather (neither too hot, nor too cold), pretty, unspoiled, great quality of life, etc. Major negative is high cost of living.

I used to be too! At least, a "webophobe" (is there a word for just the fear of the webs and not so much the spiders?)...I still really can't stand the feel of getting spiderweb stuck to me. But living in a house dominated by spiders has conditioned me to not only peacefully coexist with them, but to appreciate them very much. And tarantulas are actually really fuzzy and cute in their own way. :D

A: That's tough, there are tons of cool hobbies. I guess I'd have to just say being a backyard inventor/tinkerer. Being able to build all sorts of fun things like jetpacks and spaceworthy rockets and huge Tesla coils and particle accelerators and fusors and nuclear reactors. Dangerous things ordinary citizens are not really supposed to have. I wish I could build those. lol

So you prefer cold places then? I'd rather move to somewhere where it doesn't rain all the time and where's it's a bit warmer (nothing tropical though).
