The better their stats (I think it's pretty much just intelligence, level, maybe strength?) the better jobs they can get. It depends on the job, but all of them have several levels you can promote your pet through and it'll tell you what the requirements are for the next level. The higher your pet gets promoted, the more it will earn (different jobs all have different salaries and requirements). All of my pets have jobs (except Oklo because he's brand new and doesn't have the stats yet)! I make a few hundred thousand every day from it, so yeah, I recommend it.
