Hello everyone! I just wanted to get some constructive feedback from this event, mainly focusing on what can be improved in the next SS. Since it's my first time hosting, I'm sure there are improvements that can be made. If you feel that this event did not go well for you or if you feel that there is anything that I could do to make your experience better next time, please don't hesitate to let me know! I will take your feedback into consideration.

I created an anonymous discussion board that we could use on muttr, or if you prefer to discuss with me privately, my smail is always open ^_^

Thank you for your participation ❤️

- I had fun, despite my own personal difficulties. My family usually gets really busy around christmas and this year we had the added complication of my dad decided we should all drive 6 hours to a remote ski village and go skiing on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, but it still seemed to work out. (I brought my laptop on the trip specifically to post my pic) I didn't know until a few days before that he had also bought us all lift tickets for christmas day (didn't even know the ski hill would be open!) Sorry about that.

One last ping for this group~

I just want to thank everyone for your precious feedback on this event! I really appreciate receiving opinions from you all. I will definitely take all this into consideration and decide on how I would host the SS event again on subeta next year.

Since there are many differing opinions, I'm unsure if there would be a solution that could satisfy everyone. (if there is one though, I would definitely love to know ^_^) I think it'll be difficult finding a middle ground for those who prefer an open to all skill level SS event vs an SS event that is invite-only, application, or grouped by skill level since those two ideas are completely opposite from each other. I'm not sure which type of event I will host next year, but if I do host one, I will do my best to at least give some fair warning to the participants, so that they know what to expect from the event. I really apologize to anyone who felt disappointed from joining the event and if you felt that it wasn't what you signed up for. It was my own fault for not being clear in the beginning and I will learn from my mistake for next time.

After hearing feedback, I did think a lot about the pros and the cons of having an open-to-all event vs skill-selection event. The downside of an open-to-all event would definitely be the unfairness in skill level. As for the skill-selection event, personally, I don't believe that I'm the best judge at dividing artists in terms of skill and it may be biased as well. Of course, if I go on with a pro/con list, I could talk forever, but I'll save you all from my ramble ;v; However, I would be down to discuss more if anyone wants to through smail~

I think some of the points made were great. I liked the idea of having all participants post a few recent examples of their artwork, so that all the other participants could see whether they would like to join or not. I will definitely implement that in the next event ^_^ I don't know how the SS event will go exactly yet, but I will see how to improve it for next year! If it turns out to not be the type of event you want to participate in, there are many SS events on dA that you can participate in that are open-to-all or have skill-selection :) Again, thank you all for participating and I hope that everyone has a wonderful new year!! ❤️

I'm always wary of skill-gated gifting events as being less than genuine. The event should be about the giving of a quality piece of work, not about what you get out of it at the end. Otherwise, you may as well be commissioning work. I could have been paired with someone who had a skill level equivalent to mine 12 years ago, and that would have been okay, because I know that they still worked hard and gave it their best effort.

However, I really want to thank you for hosting this event this year! I know it must have been very stressful at an already stressful time of the year, and based on your response to feedback it looks like you faced a lot of backlash.

I agree with your point! I personally feel the same way. But since I hosted the event, I want to at least take some responsibility. I don't blame anyone because I can understand it from both sides. I think I could've been more clear about the event in general though so that everyone knows what to expect from the event ^_^ The whole reason I asked for feedback was to hear out everyone's ideas/opinions to make it better next time c: Thank you so much and I'm really glad for your appreciation and participation! ❤️

Honestly I like the open-ended skill level. I feel like a skill-gate just makes it smaller and clique-y in the end. Maybe have the artists joining offer up a piece similar to what they'd be offering or would like to do for the SS? 1) it showcases the artists especially if you offer a link to their art shop etc and 2) Gives a better spectrum of the talent that will be hosted in the year's SS. If people don't necessarily want to join then that is their choice, but they do have the option of looking at the artist's art shops that they do prefer.
