Honestly... if autorefreshers are that big a deal, events should get massive overhauls to actually make them engaging. As it is every single event and event achievement is some variation of "refresh dozens/hundreds/thousands of time" (or just load new pages, for feeding and stuff like that). Its mind numbingly boring. There's nothing fun about refreshing for hours day after day, tbh. It shouldn't be a surprise people don't want to do it manually. The way events are set up is just not engaging at all and the random "no idea if/when you'll ever get what you actually want" aspect doesn't help. Every other pet site I use combines randomness (random "token" or item/pet from ToTing) with choice (use tokens to buy specific things) and imo that works so much better. Its less stressful and there's much less of the feeling that you constantly NEED to be online/refreshing so you don't miss everything.
Plus its incredibly hard on anyone with physical limitations. I use ARs because my wrists physically cannot handle the thousands of refreshes required to participate in events. This year I finished up egging (from 50ish to 100), TPing (from 25ish to 100), and feeding carved pumpkins to my pets (from 100ish to 500) achievements. I had to do the feeding entirely by hand, of course, which was a little rough at times but not too bad. But all the egging, TPing, and ToTing? Doing that by hand too would've destroyed my wrists. I know I'm far from the only member with issues like this.
I too wouldn't care about all of this it if wasn't for the cache in forums. I was trying yesterday to go for one item. After three ToTs no scode links would work at all. I refreshed, hard refreshed, exited and re-enter the thread, closed my browser, nothing unless I went straight to profiles. I'm not going to be clearing my cache every 20-30 minutes here just to ToT/egg/TP. I hate going to profiles, period.
I ended up going back to random ToTing. I'll just buy that darned thing now. Truthfully, as pointed out, ToTing really isn't that engaging. Usually I just wait until the last day and buy what I need instead of dealing with ToTing.

Maybe there needs to be an official post (news post) with a reminder of staff's view on using autorefreshers (as in 'don't use them' and classing them as 'cheating'), as for a previous 'click a zillion times' thing (snowball flinging), I was told via a ticket that autorefreshers were allowed, with clarification then that they were not against the rules.
And I agree that ToTing is really pretty boring - I don't know how, but there must be some way of making it a little more engaging so it encourages us to want to manually click to trick-or-treat, rather than autorefreshing, or buying everything from user shops at the end.

I've just been going to the news page the whole time and clicking on ToT every five-8 minutes or so. The change just seems like a minor inconvenience to me...? One or two more clicks is like one or two more seconds added to each ToT (not accounting for lag, lol). I think an scode for random ToT would be a nice compromise though for those that want things a bit more straightforward.
Of course making Morostide more engaging would be awesome, but I have zero ideas how to do that. :'D Morostide has been like this for so long it's like an engraved part of my Subeta life.

I explained this in my previous post on this thread. Yes, they are allowed and not against the rules, as in you wouldn't get in trouble for using them. But we've always frowned upon them and we don't want them to be used, hence we've always done things to try and discourage their use.
I didn't actually think this would generate so much feedback/complaint. After all, this is not the first time we've done this (survival kissing had the same thing this year) nor is it a new thing in general (a couple site features have anti-autorefresher code already, like mystery box and slots). It sounds like the main problem is that invalid links are getting cached, so I will look into addressing that fwiw.

It's not the first time staff have done this, but usually it's done from the beginning of the event not starting in the middle of it. So some people mainly seem to be confused that the links were working and now suddenly they're not, and with the cache issue it seems like they're just not working at all. That's enough to be confusing for people who may not read feedback threads or whatever and aren't as in the loop with what's going on.
Makes sense, and yeah, I can admit it was our mistake that we overlooked it for this holiday. It should be like this from the start for future events.
I've just pushed an update to make user profiles not cache the event links, and to decrease cache time for forum signatures so that they will give you valid links as well.
As I mentioned earlier, the news sidebar is not cached, so everything should be working now.

Thanks for working so hard to fix everything again, I hope you've been able to enjoy the holiday in between putting out coding fires. <3
I actually was surprised that the links didn't expire, I literally thought the TOT links always did. I think adding them will help the site from dying, and that I am all for. I would like to see the random scode added if that is possible because it will make things a little easier, but thank you for adding the egg/tp ones!
<3
Event links are all supposed to work this way. It was an oversight on our part that this Morostide's links didn't. I do feel kinda bad for fixing it in the middle of the holiday, since it confused a lot of people, but hopefully this won't happen again.
If you haven't seen it yet, here's the suggestion thread for the random sCodes: sCode for random trick-or-treating/kissing/flowers

This is driving me insane. I can only egg or tp ONCE, maybe twice, with the link before it expires and then I have to jump through hoops to make it happen again. Either the time between tp and egging needs to be shorter, or the link expiry needs to be longer.
I can't add all these people to my dashboard notepad because there is too much info in there already. They are already neatly listed in a lovely forum post, but that expires and I have to reload - I mean at least if I could click on a different person in the list, but EVERYTHING expires whether or not I've used the link.
I can understand implementing something to make autorefreshers inconvenient to use, but when it ALSO messes with doing stuff manually, its just plain rage inducing.
Sorry folks who need to be egged and tped but I just don't have the time or sanity points to help you anymore.

I LOVE THIS ADDITION/FIX! What a great compromise, thank you! <3
THANK YOU FOR PUTTING THE RANDOM LINK ON THE RANDOM ERROR PAGE!!

Seriously loving this compromise, it's easier than having to go back to the news page to get a new link.
I'm guessing there's something similar for links to individual users?
The way I understood it, the "sCode" should have made links permanent? I am using the ToT thread for "r"numbers (hunting for specific items) I don't have among my friends, but they still keep expiring for me. And refreshing this huge page literally takes forever.
