I've been reading through the news comments and there were several pointing out that there have been ridiculously long times between restocks. So, here are two suggestions -
1: The shop stocks every 5 to 10 minutes and there are a lot more items in it each time
2: Carl gives out a pirate item for every quest.
I like the idea of a new quest. But if it's too much for this year, maybe the ship can "strike a deal" with other quest givers to give out specific currently-stocking loot. Alexander can give the books, Mori/Nori can give plushies/beanbags, etc, etc.
Love the babysitting idea and rock/paper/scissor New event related quest giver might be fun too.
Also like 's idea of having more regular quest givers giving out stuff.
I have managed to pick up a few items from OD, along with tons of junk I have no space for.
Haven't gotten much good from Carl though - a couple yesterday, but no new items today. I'd like to see Carl giving out newer items rather than retired. Or if he continues to give out retired, maybe increase the rate at which he gives out pirate stuff.

I'd rather not have other quest givers giving out items from this holiday because most of them have their own holiday assigned to them they give stuff out, so a new thing (like the cubs or even dueling in the future) is much more likely to happen!
Also in regards to the retired/new things - the items aren't weighted for what goes out via quest as a bonus item. We include retired things because that's a way to get old restockables out at that we don't want restocking anymore (and at the moment don't go out any other way). Whatever we end up doing new feature wise, I'll likely gear it towards putting out items that are currently restocking (generally current year + previous year)
yeah I get that. As a newer user I'd probably really appreciate carl giving out old stuff I can't get any other way. LOL but as a really old user, it sucks!
I'm really happy that the "new thing" will likely focus on newer items :)

Yesterday I got some pirate items from other quest givers, Pete I know for sure, but maybe some of the others. I figure it was because since they're new restockable items that's why they were in the pool. Was this not meant to be?

Given I've been in the shop numerous times and there's been nothing there, I'm all for alternative ways. Quests particularly!

Yeah, they can go out as their regular items because of key words, item types, etc since they're restockable! I'm just talking about having them as bonus items, like Carl has them. Carl is giving a regular item + a chance at a bonus pirate item (just like Vesnali Alexander would give a possibly bonus item of old restockable Vesnali items).
I've seen so many comments about nothing being in the shop or only a few items restocking at a time. It's soul destroying sitting there for ages refreshing only to get nothing when it does restock because hardly anything has come in.
Why can't the shop restock a lot more items at a time to give more people a chance of getting something?
I honestly think the current amount of item distribution is fine... between the shop, quests, and vending, most items will end up being pretty cheap by the end of the event, if previous years are anything to go by. Everyone is just impatient to get them NOW. There's still plenty of time and plenty of opportunity.
I think it's more a case of this is an event and people would like to have constructive participation. Sitting in a shop hoping to get something when a pitifully small number of items stock or getting worthless retired items from Carl or spending thousands of tokens trying to vend a new item isn't a lot of fun. Masquerade, Vesnali, Morostide etc are much more enjoyable because participation depends on how much we want to do not our reflexes, internet connection speed or computers.
Which are only worthless because worth of items from FTC has been trashed through including them in quests and otherwise making them more easy to get. I remember a few years ago when old FTC items were worth millions year round because they weren't so easy to get. Doing quests is interactive, vending is (just about) interactive, and there are those of us who love restocking and are having tons of fun. It's a lot more interactive than if everything were just sitting in a static shop. It's unfortunate that there are some events which present something of a challenge will inevitably leave some people behind, but by the end of the event, most of the items you want will be selling for under 10k and will be though of as cheap trash when carl gives them out next year.
I was just suggesting that there could be another explanation for the complaints other than people wanting the items NOW. This is from reading news post comments etc.
I mean, last year, I think I only missed one wearable, and like two books. I was working full time at the time, and I managed to get nearly everything I wanted. I don't recall if I vended, I think I just did quests and my best to restock.
Just keep an eye on the clock, when it gets close to the minute, go refresh. Use adblock to hide the items you don't want to buy (Clear it later, if it bugs you) then ... idk click like mad. I'm able to get an item or two most of the time.
Don't worry, give it a few days, you'll go to the shop, you'll see something, you'll buy it, you'll realise you paid 10k for it, but it's selling in user shops for 4k (shrug) The prices will drop.

I suggest we have an annual Scavenger/Treasure Hunt! I'm not sure what it would be like yet. One idea is maybe like a Shinwa Quest where, after we finish the quests, we get a random pirate item Another idea is to have it more like the Birds or Bug quests where, if we're looking for the item, it pops up when we go to some particular random location. I think what I'd like to see there is that it shows up when we go a particular map page as opposed to any random page. That would get people to explore the maps more.

Freyalise Trading Co. Restocked 37 minutes ago
this is my one pet peeve with keel hauliday; watching the timer get so high is such a buzzkill. i have no idea how feasible this is, but could the freyalise restock times cap at like twenty-five, maybe thirty minutes? or maybe it could have shorter restock times during the last few days?
I want to second 's suggestion of a cap or something. I'm not sure how restocking works (especially at night when these longer waits seem to happen), but waiting 37 minutes for a restock is frustrating. Sometimes, you wait that time and don't grab anything. If the restock was on a more reliable timer (like every 10-20 minutes), people would better be able to anticipate restocks without having to refresh a page for nearly 40 minutes thinking "any time now ... any time now ..."
I agree. The shop restocked 23 minutes ago as I type this reply. 5 - 10 minutes would be more reasonable when it's a 10 day event.
Before anyone starts going on about having patience etc. I'm in a lot of pain with arthritis this morning so am physically incapable of sitting there continually refreshing for who knows how long. I'm not the only player with a physical disability, either.
I agree with the time cap. If I wait five to ten minutes and don't get anything, that's fine but a half hour is way too much for a limited time event. I blindly click when it does restock and I usually don't get anything, but that's a lot more fun then the shop being empty whenever I check in.
