Ha, I made a vague suggestion about this a year ago when the zentu came out. Someone really wanted to make sure that the zentu would never be put in the carnival, so I thought of a way to make that happen that wasn't what they were thinking (animal acts or whatever). heh. I love automatons and like goofy fortune/mysticism things.
Since the zentu has a connection with dreams and the like, I thought that it'd fit. Some cute, robot zentu telling fortunes in exchange for tokens~ Giving us the occasional stat, title, item, challenger, and mostly NOTHING. I'm still for it, but not as much if it's the metal poking out, run down thing, since skins and/or fur are an easy fix.
Whoops and Laurey had suggested that I post it on here and I never did. Sorry Laurey. :(
Once a day for free could work, or maybe once every couple of hours and have it cost a certain amount of tokens.
Ahh, so I wasn't crazy and something like this was mentioned before ~
I still kind of like the creepy/barely working machine idea, but either way there are plenty of ideas here now for the content team to think about if this is something they ever decided to implement. :)
No matter what form this takes, I love this idea! Hope we get one..or more..
I would just like to say actually, how much I adore this idea! π Although I would like it to be kinda like the Hustler where you have 3 options/packages to choose from and you have the chance at getting a fortune, prize or nothing !!?? ~cos it's busted :P haha overall, nice suggestion π pinging cos I think it's that good :* what do ya think?
Oh god I really love this and want to see it be a thing okay :(
I would absolutely want to see an anthromorphic pet centered around this, not only because it'd make it so much more colorful but that'd probably really cut away the original racisms those machines were based off of. The Keeto (I mean it radiates spiritual energy) or the Zentu (rich with both dreams and nightmares) would be great choices, off the top of my head?
I could imagine a ton of random "good" and "Bad" and "wtf random" (like be wary of burning your ramen, or it would be wise for you to invest in a helmet) fortunes for it to spit out for like 1 wizard token? Maybe a few of the "good luck is in your future!"esque ones could award you with a number of carnival tickets. I also like the idea of it being once a day, it'll keep it funner longer.
also omg this pleaseeeeee:
So hard this, because I would 100% want to see an item version of the machine. I'm such a sucker for those old beautiful antiquey items, hng.
Bonus points if it's usually a beautiful colorful one but during Morostide they replace it with an ancient rusty creepy af one with like a Charlie in it (because that's brilliant, y'all are brilliant) that just gives you creepy fortunes (if it's too good to be true run for your life, if someone offers you cake don't take it, if you have a bird in hand beware the bush for there is no bird that lurks inside).
PS. I am more than willing to get drunk and make a million fortunes if need be. I couldn't think of a better way to waste my spare time.
Oh man. I would love to have more pointless, gimmick-y carnival pages... Like those things where you just click and it generates a random fortune for you. You don't get anything but the fun of generating some random words. But that could be so much fun in itself. I'm reminded of the daily haiku thing on neopets (yes, the forbidden N-word...) I'd love to code something like that here and the carnival is a great setting for it.
Personally I adore the parts of the site that don't necessarily have any usefulness per se, but just exist as part of the lore and have fun/interesting content. Like the nature trail, the delphi aquarium (those pufferfish need to be an actual minion) and the art museum exhibits. Not to mention the carnival feels a bit bare right now so it would be great to get more stuff.
What about an anthropomorphic zentu fortune teller NPC? It could be dressed in fortune-teller robes in the "zentu dream world" aesthetic (not to mention I'd love to see an NPC wear those golden body jewels from the loyalty shop) So the zentu isn't in the carnival in a bad way, but can make an appearance as a lovely fortune teller NPC who will read your fortune. I love the art on traditional tarot cards, so I'd love to see some Subeta art inspired by that aesthetic as well.

TOTALLY ON BOARD WITH THIS. It would also be kind of cool if the psychic was accurate and something happened after. (Good OR bad.) (Also I believe the psychic should be in the likeness of the Oracle, bc of her title)
Anyway, this item? Those would be neat! Or, do you mean another one?
And, if we're discussing a real person, it might be fun to do something with the day night thing that's special to them then! Perhaps, two different ones that switch off every... day or few hours or something. (preferably not just day and night! took me ages to finally get Nori's quests done because I'm usually not up for quests when she's active. D: missed out on that Cursed title too. ugh.) It could even be almost the same image, just the skin/color is different and/or a few items on, say, the table or background swap out too? And, perhaps one of them is more likely to give "good" fortunes and the other more "negative" fortunes (remember that bad times... are just times that are bad.)? Or, one is more prone to, say the title or the challenger or items or other things suggested? I also like the idea of it just being random words of fortune and no prize as well, like the art gallery and such. I like things that add a little flavor to the world; like the book read commentary that I believe you added?
And, if we're going NPC instead of machine, then how are we doing fortunes? Cards, sticks, balls, lines, palms, tea leaf, bones, yelling at dead things, flights of birds, the little folded-triangle-thing? Organs? Bring a minion, get a fortune? ha! So many options~ (and I know I'm missing a lot. :P )
Man, I wouldn't want it creepy just during morostide. There's not enough just casually creepy things in subeta - I don't think of the zombies as creepy anymore. They're so immersed in the subeta lore that they're just there. Not creepy, just existing. I really want a fortune teller machine that's just. Creepy. Weird. No explanation for it, it's just there and it's freaky as hell looking, and it's like that all year round.
i just want to say that i support this ideas as well. one suggestions i liked the most was for the machine to be inspired by Shengui Guo, and have some spirit attached to it.. and depending on the spirit's mood, our fortune would be good or bad.
there is also not a big need to write a lot. just a few general things like "today: bad/good luck", "tomorrow you fall in love" etc.
the machine would not be free: we would pay some 500 sP for 1 fortune. we could do it a few times a day, and Drills could also ask us to have our fortune told in his quests.
appearance wise, it could look a bit like the steamwork pets - so steampunk inspired, because it's maker liked this style..?
i hope i didn't repeat anyone's suggestion: i was too excited to write my thoughts on the matter ;p
I really have to update my blog ObscureJourney and my review site BeingObscure. French speakers can read my reviews here.
If staff doesn't do this I will hunt each of you down
Yes please. I am not creative enough to add any suggestions but this sounds so cool.
Ohhhh I love it
Maybe we could base it off of the fantastic Donkey Wonder and have it be an animatronic Legeica or Hikei (Since I don't think we have a proper Donkey)
I'm surprised the Dillema hasn't been suggested for this; they're already plushies possessed by spirits, IIRC. Perfectly creepy.
Also. I love the entire idea of this. Creepy fortune teller, machine-operated or otherwise, please!
I think I'm in love with you for this because 100000000% yes????? give me a nice fortune teller that can turn bad and yes pop out a mad spirit infested teller because i kicked it a little too hard.
also pls i will so join in the drunk fortunes thanks they should def make a board or contest to make fortunes and let us write a ton.
Sounds like a great idea! :) I was initially thinking something along the lines of a fortune teller tent at the carnival, with someone gazing into a crystal ball if you pay them x amount of tokens / or once per day.
But! ;) What would also be interesting is if we go with the Japanese omikuji fortune telling concept (can be tied into the Shengui Guo lore) where it's a temple in there you can visit, you can deposit x amount of tokens / or once per day, and then receive your fortune (which will range from great blessing to great curse).
As for the effect of the fortune? I'm not sure, but maybe it will give you higher chance of good random effects happen as you browse the site (kind of like a buffer, lasting max 6 hours, like the 15% shop discount buffer).
If you get a bad fortune, you can tie it to a tree (but you'll have to donate x amount of tokens as an offering), kind of like you would in a Japanese temple.

I just had another idea that was inspired as I was writing this. Usually in Japan there are shrine fairs throughout the year. And there's also a festival called Tanabata in Japan (Qixi festival in China) where they celebrate the meeting of Orihime and Hikoboshi (represented by the stars Vega and Altair). There's a lot of festivals around this where people go to shrine fairs, watch fireworks and so on. Usually taking place in July-August on the lunar calendar.
We haven't had a lot of Shengui Guo related holiday events. Maybe this could be an idea? :D
