NOTE TO ANY MODS: I READ A RULE THAT SAID THAT NECROING IS 3 MONTHS OR MORE SINCE THE LAST POST TO THE THREAD. IF I RAN INTO OLD INFO, I AM SORRY AND PLEASE TELL ME THE NEW RULE. THANKS!

The Host by Stephenie Meyer.

Now I enjoyed the poor quality of Twilight because it was fun to read. So I knew what I was getting into with The Host, or I thought I did. But everything so bad it's good in Twilight was removed.

While I have done a few rants on my blog about The Host...recently I've done a four part review of the book.

PART 1

PART 2

PART 3

PART 4

And while re-reading it for the review I found more reasons to hate itXD

Honestly Eragon&;s cousin Rorin was the best part and the only way I got through Eldest was in anticipation of when the story would go back to him.

SAME. i never read past the end of that one, it was such a slog.

additionally, a farewell to arms. anything by hemingway. i despise his writing. i don't understand why his work is so beloved.

I usually don't hate books -- but sometimes I do.

Books I have hated...

"The Worst Witch" in middle school (the 70s, I am middle aged now). I was so disappointed I cannot even tell you. I loved that kind of book but that one was not right.

I don't even know the title (it was a long series, happened long ago, and I don't know which one this refers to) but it was some kind of fantasy - I later found out it was perhaps not appropriate for younger readers - in high school a book in the "Gor" series found its way into my hands, and after I read a chapter or so, into the trash can. The only book I have in my life ever thrown away for being so unspeakably awful. (the early 80s)

The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand. Read it in college (late 80s) and actually enjoyed it (which I can't say about any other book I hate), but it messed with my head. Saw it mess even worse with other peoples' heads and began to hate it. Nowadays hate it even more because it seems to have "got" enough people now to actually cause political problems.

Mystic River by Dennis Lehane. Seriously offended me by portraying child abuse in a really exploitative way and blame-the-victim stuff and the super idealized murder victim and other awfulness. Had come highly recommended and made me regret ever starting to read it.

There are plenty of books I didn't enjoy or just went "nope" right out of but those are ones I actually hate (there are probably five or six more but no reason to overwhelm anyone).

Fifty Shades of Grey.

Otherway, I don't like the Inheritance Cycle very much... My main problem with it is that I think it's overrated. I wouldn't have a problem with it if it was not as popular. I think it's neither original nor very well written (it's easy to read, but it is not great literature).

I also have a strong hatred for the works of Ionesco, Beckett and and some other absurdist fiction writers. The vision of the world depicted in their books is not mine at all, and I find them both boring, disturbing, and depressing (I hated it so much when we studied this genre in high school!). For similar reasons, I dislike the The Red and the Black by Stendhal, that I've also studied in school... I just don't care about the main character and about his struggles... But my dislike for these books is very different from the dislike I have for Twilight of Fifty Shades. Contrarily to these it is not bad literature at all, it is only a question of taste and personal feeling.

I actually liked the Host more than Twilight, because at least there were some original ideas in it x). (I could not list them, I just remember that it's what I thought when I read it which was about 10 years ago... I never opened it again after)

I hate fantasy genre in high school I was a huge fan of elves, ogres, wizards... it's always the same stuff, I quickly got bored by the lack of creativity in a genre that should show... fantasy
