Charlotte Abernathy - Ravenclaw In order to control the Horklump population I would petition to start a sub-category of the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures in order to help re-home the Horklumps to a magical wildlife reserve where they could live freely. At these reserves they would be regularly tickled by their caretakers, and their juice could be used to help make potions for St. Mungos or Hogwarts. To trap the Horklumps, the department would provide humane traps in gardens of wizards who report a Horklump infestation. They will then return to the residence and remove the Horklumps to their new home. I believe this is the most humane way to deal with the removal of Horklumps.

The issue of Horklump overpopulation must be addressed because they are an invasive species. That being said, Horklump juice has many advantageous uses. My solution to Horklump overpopulation would be to move them to caves and other underground spaces to colonize. They would be able to flourish there without causing imbalance and stress to the environment. Horklump colonies would benefit both the Horklumps and humans. People trying to keep Horklumps, gnomes, and other garden pests away from their plots should surround the area(s) of land in question with a border of Streeler venom and accordingly mark the ground with flags.

The best way to harvest Horklump juice under my proposal.

Paddy - Gryffindor As Horklumps have some magical properties and therefore some use, the need to have a reasonable number of them available outweighs the need for complete control over the population. However, releasing Gnomes to eradicate the Horklumps has actually caused more of a problem than the Horklumps themselves. My method of control is based on something I read had been used in a Muggle zoo which with a bit of thought could be transferred over to Horklumps without to much difficulty. That zoo had given hormones of some kind to their lions, to stop the 'wrong' lionesses from breeding. My method would be for a similar but magical method to be created, which could be watered over the Horklumps, thereby preventing too many from breeding, while not affecting the Horklump Juice. This would be a temporary measure and would need reapplying every few months or so, but that would also mean there shouldn't ever be a shortage of Horklumps, and they certainly should never be allowed to become extinct.
