House Elf serves the Ravenclaw professor of astronomy. Their entire job is keeping all the instruments at the top of the Astronomy Tower calibrated against all the cold, wind, rain, and ice. They may also stop shards of freed-triwizard-tournament=dragon-clawed slates from falling on the delicate instruments.

If Headmaster Dumbledore borrows their services from time to time from Sinistra to keep the wibbling and chirping instruments in his office going, it's not known to the general student.

I believe you're not in a house but rather one of the ghosts that haunts the school. However when you were alive you were likely a ravenclaw.
