It's always bothered me a little, just because it sounds awkward, but so does they/them. So I'd totally support the suggestion of removing the pronoun altogether.
I always thought the "it" was referring to the session, not the pet.
I approve of the passive voice being used.
However, that phrasing has always sounded kind of 'clunky' to me. There's so many better ways of phrasing it, which would eliminate any mention of gender (which should still be easier on the coding, as there's only the time variable to worry about)

I agree with 's suggestion and changing it to passive instead. It hasn't bothered me that much, but if others have an issue, I don't see why changing the line to remove gender entirely wouldn't be feasible. :)
I like the passive voice option. I'm not bothered by the use of "it" but other people have stated that they are and I see no reason not to change it. As others have said, it also has the advantage of cleaning up the page a little, being less clunky.

Several of the specific passive voice examples provided sound.. flouty.
"X is in training for Speed, there are N minute(s) left".
Also, please give us a way to add an alert after the fact, kthx. I hate forgetting :c
I agree as I have always disliked my pet being referred to as "it". I don't think it has to be gendered though.
Passive voice would be fine or "PETNAME is in Health training and has XXX minutes left."
SELL ME FOOD PLS? ๐กบ CLICK HERE ๐กธI agree with making things in the passive voice. I, personally, don't want my pets to be referred to as "it" OR "they." By removing pronouns all together, it gets rid of any sticky issues people have with pet identification.
I agree that there should be a passive voice without the word it. The sentence will even make sense with just removing the word IT.

Just change it to "[Pet name] has X minutes left" or something along those lines. The site has no problem detecting a pet's name for other parts of the site, so it should be a reasonable fix. Plus it avoids pronouns entirely.
I support the passive voice suggestion.
