I have a fewquestions regarding the event ... What is the timeline/deadline for a contest? Do we need to participate in each of them?

Since it doesn't appear that our mastermind YJ is on right now, from what I understand: The whole event will be between 2-3 weeks with a bunch of challenges in the mix. These will each have their own time constraints, but will vary based on the challenge (major challenges will be longer, minis will be short; each will be announced when that part of the event begins). You should be able to choose not to participate in any part of it, though the prizes you're eligible for will depend upon which parts of the event you participate in!
