Nope, they don't. They don't like to the map or the individual locations within each region, which I think would be much more helpful. (e.g. you would click on Centropolis, and you'd have a picture link on the left to the map as well as text links below that of different places within Centropolis, like the Antique Shop, Job Agency, Blue Building, etc. Currently, the locations articles are just text, but if they were formatted like the pets or NPC articles, there would be two columns that would work for what I'm proposing as a solution to the problem.) I'm sure some people would still rather have text links below the maps themselves, but putting text links in the Subetapedia would be equally effective (at least in terms of the number of mouse clicks from the Subeta homepage).
[edit] Depending on how the articles are formatted, it may actually be easier to load if you're on a smartphone/tablet this way instead of putting it below the map. I know sometimes on my phone links don't click correctly until all of the images are loaded, so having the page be primarily text would probably be easier to navigate.
There are always 'more important' issues that can be worked on but the map items aren't even clearly labeled. It's simply not intuitive for users to have to play hide and seek with a website to access it's content. I would love a text only option that overrides map choices or grays out any area not clickable.
There's a difference between trying to get around a website and having spare time just randomly wander around until you build up enough habits that you 'no longer need the map' which speaks of a problem in of itself.
Users should never eventually forgo a main part of the website simply because the head on way is too hard so they just revert to saved bookmarks.
Subeta almost ensures that users have everything at their fingertips; even item hovers have an account search and search shop options. Things clearly not needed when getting to those locations is only ever a click or two away from the hover but it's definitely something that is well appreciated and would be missed if removed.
Things can always be more accessible and better adjusted for the userbase. The maps are beautiful but do not function well as ways to suss out actual locations available to players.

If they could set up something in a similar format to the game room below each map, I don't think it would take up too much space.
I think trying to turn the Subetapedia into a navigation hub is kind of counter-intuitive? I don't mind important links being there if they directly relate to the article, but it almost sounds like the suggestion is to use the Subetapedia in place of the maps, and I disagree with that.

if the article is about a part of the site, it makes sense to link to it. Each area looks like it's divided up into some paragraphs of people and other paragraph headings, I wouldn't be opposed to having a Places paragraph that just bullets off the various places that links directly to them and gives a description. that makes sense to me. I don't think mobile should be taken into account, cuz a lot of this site doesn't care about mobile users. the mobile site is severely neglected. This could be better for mobile, but really there are things on this site you'll just never be able to do if you only use mobile.
to me it just sounds like some people are having trouble finding things on the map. if you know what you're looking for already and don't want to learn where it is on the maps, go google it. some of the areas I think could be changed up to be a bit more obvious, and the underground needs the big red borders on the clickable areas when you hover over them because for some reason it doesn't have them.
I was thinking more of an alternative because one of the complaints was that the interactive maps take a while to load on mobile or on slower internet connections (which they do). The text links below the maps may not work properly until the image has loaded. I like the maps as they are now, but when they first came out they were incredibly frustrating to figure out where things are. The only reason I've figured out where most of the places are now is because I use the maps regularly. For new/returning players I can understand that they may seem daunting, but I don't understand why they can't learn where things are. I was proposing adding a section the relevant Subetapedia articles that links to a "places of interest" within each location. It shouldn't be the go-to for the maps since the staff seem to prefer the maps as they are now if they haven't added text links to the map already (however frustrating they may be for less-active users). I didn't know about the suggestion thread for the text links after the cruise. Do you remember if there was a staff response explaining why they removed all the text links?
Exactly. A Places section would be a nice addition to the articles, especially for places like "Westside Centropolis" or whatever it is that is kind of hidden on the map.
I have found it frustrating in the past when, for one reason or another, the map just won't load, because I refuse to go Google to find a page on a website I should be able to find without Google. But it's definitely problematic when the map goes down, as there is no alternative to navigation other than bookmarks or Google.
I wouldn't mind little popups that tell you what you're hovering over. Not a fan of the idea of text links, except for folks on mobile platforms. The navigation right now isn't ideal, and I'm not a fan of having to search then navigate through Subetapedia articles.
While I'm not a fan of listing links under the map site, that may be the best alternative.
