Yeah, I think I just got you confused since I mentioned the ice blue ring in my post as well.
The only time I feel like preclaiming really works is if it's a slot for someone who has said they want would like to purchase all recolours of an item and you know will follow through. That and occasionally when you allow your group(s) to claim first batch slots.
