- There are currently around 60 pets in the ready to win queue, and about 300 in the ready to be looked at queue. Many of the 'ready to be looked at' HAVE actually been looked at, but we were very much on the fence about them (either it's fandoms that we don't personally know, or subject matter that we're not personally into, which is why we're developing a better system to get more eyes on the aesthetics portion of the spotlight judging) To put this in greater perspective, on average we get about 20-30 pets into the win queue out of every 100.

We did discuss the spotlight in a meeting yesterday, it's not forgotten, and we do appreciate the reminders that you're really waiting on it in order to feel it's worth working on again. We know it's taking a long time, and we're sorry - I don't want to keep posting with this same message over and over, so the next thing you'll see from us on this will be actual progression.

- More like on a fanpet. If someone has done a Quentin from Subeta fanpet we can tell if it's been done well because Quentin is our creation and we can see how a user has taken their character and made a great fan pet out of it - appropriate minion, Quentin's colours, uses Quentin's image and actually refers to Quentin in the story. If someone has done a Final Fantasy fanpet and none of us have played Final Fantasy, we don't know if it's been done particularly well, we don't know if the images they've drawn are correct for the character, we can't immediately say 'Oh, this image is from something else entirely' - does that make sense? We get a lot of fandom pets and some of them look aesthetically ok, but we just can't tell if they make sense as to what they're trying to be, or if they've full on copied their fandom without trying to create something original within it.

- no problem! I think I was just continuing my thought in that last post rather than adding an extra thing, although maybe I was thinking in terms of hobbies - for example, if someone did a knitting pet that described how to knit and I had no idea how to knit, I wouldn't be sure if that was a good guide on knitting. I've certainly accepted plenty of pets with a character that I don't particularly enjoy for myself, but I can tell it's been done well and follows the spotlight rules!

- absolutely. I do think the rules need some adjustments and clarifications as it is, and there are a lot of pets that could do with some better crediting to make the process a lot smoother for both parties.

I'm actually no longer in charge, nor working on the pet spotlight, and haven't been for nearly a year now :) just FYI and others! I asked to have it removed from my duties for a variety of reasons.

We haven't had a dedicated staff member for this in a while, which has proven to be difficult. We've had quite a lot of big programming projects come up--especially right now with the ongoing errors.

We'd hoped to have this wrapped up sooner (I know, I know) and switch to the 5-per-week schedule when the new spotlight was released. I realize it's a bit of a bandaid, but here's a couple things we're going to do right now:

  • The Pet Spotlight will now run 5 days a week, Monday through Friday.
  • Several new staff members are now responsible for going through the queue. I've already gone through about 50 today, and will continue to spend more time on this.

We've said this before, but based on feedback, we've got a lot of ideas on how to make the spotlight a bit more practical, inclusive, take some of the burden off of the queue with user feedback, as well as adding tags or a similar feature to help us give you guys a quick heads up as to what might be the problem (credits missing, broken images, etc.) We really really want to do this! But the programming isn't available right now.

I know it isn't a perfect solution, but I hope changing to 5 Spotlight wins per week will help give you a bit more faith that we really do want to get this up and running. The Pet Spotlight is something that's been huge for me personally, as a crazy pet person, and I hate seeing it causing all this strife. We're listening, I'm sorry we haven't been as responsive and timely as you would have liked, but trust me this is something I'm passionate about and want to get off the ground as soon as we can.
