I think the difference between having opponents that are either too tough or too weak, and having an opponent called the troll is that trolls have the intention of getting other people upset, which it has successfully. I only thought this was a fuck you when I thought it was unbeatable. once I knew it was beatable, I just thought it was a poorly timed decision. It might have been better if the news post actually said "work together to defeat the troll" or something, it might have given us some direction at the start. I do like how the troll is bringing people out and together, but once the hype dies down of the troll, it will be hard to find a group of people to help test weapons against it, and it goes back to being a solo project. this also promotes hoarding. have a stockpile of weapons? great, you have an advantage. Don't yet? well after testing this you will. keep them because it could change in the middle of your testing! all in all, I am happy I have my wins, and I sold my loot. I'd do it again knowing how profitable it was. do I really like it? as with most things, I have mixed feelings.
Levitio just made T7! :)
Having one of every weapon on site isn't hoarding in the sense that hurts the site. The problem comes in when people have literally half a million (or more) copies of a single item.
Congrats :D
And I was just about to make a list with the winning items thus far because I don't think I've seen one yet.
Thanks! :)
Making a list would be great. :)
So no more free beer??? LOL
if that were the case, there would be a limit on duplicates and not a limit on unique items, wouldn't it? and having all of the weapons may not hurt, but the idea that you should have all of these items is the idea behind hoarding. have one of everything just in case you'll need them later.
- I believe that someone was keeping track, but that's only really helpful if everyone who has beaten him reports what weapon they used, and I don't think that everyone who has beaten him has come forward. Also... I don't think that having a list would be helpful at all anyway.
Our forum group has a private list in the group forum of the publicized winning items :)
If I don't use some method of whittling down the choices, I likely won't battle him again. It may not speed up the winning process, but it is a place to start.
We don't mind that kind of "hoarding." Many people like to have a full set of every plushie, every non-custom wearable, every minion, etc. Having a full set of weapons in your armory won't break the site. It's not even comparable to having (as a hypothetical example) 600,000 dark light potions in your inventory.
- I highly doubt that the weapon is on a rotation system that makes sure every item is the 'winning item' before any duplicates appear, it's easier to code completely random, so there's no saying it won't be the same items again. A list of winning items would not be super useful.
Stupid question: why are we limited in unique items under the new system, but not overall number -- or why isn't an item limit/cap in place?
I know having an extreme amount of a single item will hurt the site, but if like you said is true, can you explain the unique item limit to me in the new shops? it is the main difference in the foreground of the new change. I know there are query optimizations also, but if optimizations alone could fix things, there wouldn't be those limits. The limits are the most controversial part of the change (the only controversial part perhaps?), they wouldn't just tack those on if they didn't fix anything. The impression I get is that hoarding is allowed, even supported as long as you don't do it in the new shops. and I don't think this is what intends when she says that hoarding is bad for the site and she would like to have more uses for the items so they don't sit around in a hoard. people feel like they need to keep every item, and that shouldn't be the case.
You'd have to ask Amber or another programmer! I have nothing to do with the shops and galleries. I've just been told that full armories are not an issue.
It may not break the site, but if I was to equip all the 1200 weapons I have, I don't think the armory would load anymore
I think when the armory was first released, I tried putting them in at first (before realising it isn't practical) and even with 200 items it was being a real pain.
While the hoarding argument is irrelevant, the armory isn't quite optimized to hold that many weapons at once just yet. But even if it ws a lag free experience, it would become impossible to find what you need in the middle of so many things

Yeah, I agree that the armory (and weapon sets) need some work. was working on BC stuff before shops and galleries took priority, but she will be getting back to that! We have a whole list of stuff she's been working through before it'll all be pushed.
Having different pages for each tier (like the layers in the wardrobe) may be something to consider. I don't think it would make me add hundreds of weapons, because I like things tidy, but it would help people who want to, and also make the armory feel more like a collection
