Francine, tired of tossing and turning during a fitful night, gets up, wraps her favorite robe around her and dons her bunny slippers. (Comfortable and keep hooves from clicking.) Surely no one will mind if she makes a cup of cocoa in the kitchen. As she nears the bottom of the stairs, though, she hears two voices talking in whispers. Her detective instincts kick in and she ticks into the wide shadow behind the door. As she peers though the crack, she sees Julian and Cheval in deep conversation.
"Thanks for not revealing, Val." Julian says.
Chaval shakes her head. "Little enough I could do. Your father didn't deserve what happened, and Kimatra Parvati was hardly an angel, although she was doing a lot better without Nigel."
"Grabbingsly's behind all of this, I just know it!"
Cheval agrees. "And he had a hand in what happened to Arthur Pennington, too. I'd lay money on it!"
"Not sure," Julian answers. "He's got no interest except acquiring property, and destroying it to his own ends. He wouldn't even understand unless someone spelled it out for him."
"So it IS true, then. Ruby Roman is here. Stefanie was in the way, so I couldn't confirm, which was just as well, considering I could have been the next victim. Poor woman. I'm glad the doctor sedated her. She kept going on and on about 'high heels that didn't look like high heels.' Ghosthunters! All loony!"
"She's right," whispers a voice in Francine's ear, almost making her squeal, but it's only Arabella. "I remember, high heels that were not high heels. From the shuttle--one of the mechanics who checked the flight. So strange, but I saw them too."
Arabella vanishes as Cheval continues. "I have what you need. I even made two copies."
She reaches in her pocket and hands him a folded piece of paper. As she does, the copy drifts to the floor unnoticed. "At least call, Julian, and don't wait to long to reveal the truth. Laurel depends on you."
Julian gives Cheval a hug and they say goodnight. Francine tucks around the corner and stays out of sight, then creeps into the kitchen and picks up the slip of paper:
"Tatsuo Nobu, Consultant Hotel Nikko Kanazawa 2 Chome-15-1 Honmachi, Kanazawa, Ishikawa Prefecture 920-0853, Japan, Earth"
Francine cringes. If there's one thing she doesn't want to do, it's return to Earth and its North Pole. Earth is rough on magical creatures of any kind. Still, Japan is pretty far from the Arctic, and if she can integrate her antlers into some sort of costume, she just might be able to speak to Mr. (Ms.?) Nobu. It's worth a try, and maybe their friends can help.
(OOC: This assignment is two-fold. Tatsuo Nobu is fictional, but the place is very real, and has great significance. A little research will be helpful. In addition, you need to dress Francine for her inter-galactic meeting. You may not eliminate her antlers (yes, female reindeer have antlers,) and she doesn't fancy mutilation. However, you can get as creative as you want. So, here are the specific tasks:
- Dress Francine for her mission, and post the HA on this thread, and
- Tell me: "Who is Ruby Roman?" (By smail)
You are almost all in with your cryptograms, and you are all correct, so, combining everything should point you right. You have until the 26th at 11:59 pm Subeta time. Questions and shrieks on OOC thread, please. Good luck, detectives.)

Arlington looks a bit apologetic. "About tampering with evidence and all, Inspector. We were in a rush to get back and I may have decoded the third message. Also, I do believe that the stalwart Kandace may have meant her first clue to read J=G instead of P. Have I given anything too much away?"

Have you guys see this yet? I stumbled across it by accident last night (or early this morning depending whose clock you go by...)
(Team Midnight) After studying the culture of the area a bit Francine noticed a pattern, it seemed Japanese girls either dressed in super cute and frilly outfits or in school uniforms.
It seemed odd to dress in a school uniform all throughout the day, I mean wouldn't that be something you'd wear only if you go to school? don't you need other clothes? besides she it seems you need to have your hair down or in a ponytail with that outfit so her antlers will stand out!
on the other hand the "kawaii" style offered her a hiding place in plain sight! within 30 minutes she had thrown together every single of pink item she had on, painted her face and arms with a think layer of make-up for that doll-like look and dyed her antlers to match the outfit.
people didn't even give her a second glance as she walked by.

.. On the theory she is to be completely hidden, the student/business/slightly modern look was decided, this was made with the deer skin thinking it would be the one that would have antlers.
PS.. I had so much difficulty with the wardrobe I simply used a snipping tool and posted in an image hosting site.

The chimeriads present our Francine:
Her hooves are hidden under the Bento and covered in soft slippers and antlers are disguised with flowers and when needed, the Sakura parasol can give more disguise, too. She is seen standing in the Kanazawa Betsuin Temple.

Trixie and Bitsy decided the best course of action was to go for the kawaii approach. Finding a long wig, Trixie took great care winding strands of hair around Francine's antlers, disguising them perfectly as two long pigtails, while Bitsy assembled the rest of Francine's outfit.
Francine spent a while making sure all the research was done on the place she'd be heading too. She at first wanted to dress like a worker, but no matter how hard she tried, her antlers wouldn't fit under the hat. Frustrated, she decided that instead of hiding them, she would make them more noticeable. She wrapped them delicately in small paper lanterns and wore the most traditional outfit she could find. It wasn't unheard of for women wearing traditional clothing to have big elaborate headdresses. No one would believe her antlers were real. Thankfully, the socks you had to wear with this outfit would cover her hooves perfectly. She slipped into the getas and looked in the mirror. She was glad she had decided on this final direction.

PIs help Francine
Will Alexander was a night owl. He had been from the time he could remember but in college the trait had really come to a head. It was a good trait to have due to his profession…PI. Oh, Dana might think it stood for Private Investigator, and he knew the few clients they had had thus far thought the same. But Will knew the real secret, the reason for his choice of names. PI actually stood for Paranormal Investigators. He thrived on searching for the unexplained and as most people would term it ‘weird’. The urge to be suspicious caused his nocturnal wanderings and on more than one occasion it had served him well. And it looked as though tonight was another instance of that good luck.
The young investigator had followed a hunch and gone prowling around the inn in the darkness. And he’d seen Francine come downstairs. Hiding in the shadows, he’d watched her and observed her actions. After the deer made her way back upstairs, Will hastened to Dana’s room and tapped on the door.
A moment later a rather bleary eyed Dana opened the door. “Alexander, what do you want? It’s the middle of the night,” Dana yawned, having a vivid sense of déjà-vu from their college days.
“I know but we’ve got a lead,” Will said quietly. “You need to go to Francine’s room.”
Dana quirked an eyebrow. “Why?”
“Don’t ask right now,” Will said, “just trust me, Sergei. She’s going to need some help. I’d offer, but…well, I’m not after feeling those hooves pounding my body to a pulp. And you’ve got reasonably good taste. I’ve got some researching to do. Just come by my room when you’re done.” And giving the startled Dana a quick hug, Will hastened to his own room, slightly down and across from Dana’s.
Sighing and knowing the signs of Alexander on an impulse, Dana withdrew and threw on some comfortable clothes before going to see what was going on with Francine. Any sane person would be sleeping, but if Will had a hunch, she would risk looking like an idiot to at least check. What she found was someone in the process of dressing for a role. Outfit Not Found Private Outfit Dana wasn’t as given to dramatics as her partner, but she, as Will had so kindly pointed out, did possess a sense of taste. She offered her services to Francine and together the two of them came up with a combination that Dana thought would serve the purpose nicely. Outfit Not Found She hugged Francine and wished her good luck on her mission before slipping out of the room and returning to Will’s.

Kandace has gone to pick up Francine from the shuttle port, so you're all nervously wandering around waiting for her news--except Inspector Brie. He is going over the autopsy results with a very serious expression, and shaking his head. The local constable is hovering nearby, clanking a set of handcuffs.
In the lobby, Nutsy is sitting next to Imelda, who is holding his paw gently. They seem to be having a conversation about Nutsy's height.
"Don't be silly," Imelda assures him, patting his hand. "Lots of males wear stacked heels, even humans. Look at Julian with those boot heels, and I'm convinced Norman Wears lifts. I've seen too many short singers do that. Then there's that Nigel fellow." She giggles. "If he didn't have those stacks on, he'd be shorter than his wife. And besides, I like you as you are."
"You d-d-d-o?" stutters Nutsy, and you decide it's time to leave.
In the kitchen, Carmen is lecturing Julian about the need and reason for truth, and Julian is staring down at an open utensil drawer.
Norman is whispering earnestly to Cheval and Arlington near the French windows, while Denise and Laurel sit nearby on separate chairs, each pretending to read a book. Denise is holding hers upside down.
The sound of a shuttle door spans everyone to life, and Denise and Francine enter. Francine is all decked out in a gorgeous kimono is shades of red, with her antlers bent and twisted into an elaborate wreath.
Ruby Roman Revealed
"Francine!" exclaims Laurel. "You look lovely, but doesn't that hurt?"
"Some," Francine confesses. "But mine are fairly pliable, so after soaking, they worked. I be a bit twisted up until summer when I shed, but anything for a good cause. In the meantime, we're going to have a snack!"
She reaches into a tote she has carried with her, and pulls out: clear plastic containers of grapes?!?
"Everyone, meet Ruby Roman!"
Amid the gasps, Kandace starts circulating with the boxes, allowing all of you to grab a grape while Francine continues. "This is the most expensive grape on earth. The hotel where I went bought a single bunch for $8,200 in terran money!"
"But, these are the ones that grow wild in my backyard!" exclaims Arlington. "We eat them like candy at the library."
"Exactly!" Francine basks in her success. "I suspect this is what Arthur wanted to show the expert where he was going. He found them growing in the vineyard. A crop of these would be worth a fortune for both desserts and wines! This whole asteroid may be the only place in the nexus that has the soil and the conditions, similar to Ishikawa in Japan. I was well received because I looked like I was Ruby incarnate, and I learned about the history. Land here is worth a fortune!"
"So," Inspector Brie interrupts, "we have our motive, and the real reason your boss wants this land. Yes, Mr, Sharpe?"
"He didn't tell me," Norman protests. "I know nothing about grapes or wines!"
"But Mr. Hidalgo does," the Constable interjects. "He's a renowned expert, with a chain of fancy restaurants."
Laurel gasps as Julian is dragged out of the kitchen handcuffed, an officer on each side of him.
The Constable continues. "Considering we have here the murder weapon," he holds up an elaborate corkscrew with a stiletto point, "and more than enough reason to want to remove anyone who might threaten his plans, I'm arresting Julian Hidalgo for the murder of Kimatra Parvati!"
After this, it's all chaos. Julian is dragged off, Laural collapses sobbing, questions fly from everywhere, Arlington looks shocked, Carmen wails in the kitchen, and it's a general mess. Only Chief Inspector Brie is calm.
"Well, that's a bit loose ended for me," he observes, looking at Nutsy and all of you. "Shall we sort this out properly? And have a few of these grapes while we muse. They are delicious!"
