Alas, poor Yorick, he was dead Some time before Hamlet was read But by scene 5, you'll see his head Leading as any leading man has led.
The Meddlesome Madams have all chosen to dress as a lady from a different play of Shakespeare, rather than going the typical road of choosing just one play. The Madams have chosen, as a unifying theme, to all pick a strong and powerful character that, in some way, speaks to their own personality.

(here is the backstory for the PI's, to help introduce our new characters. Also had issues with the wardrobe but managed to get a screenshot finally and posted our HA's above)
With a stone façade, diamond-paned glass windows with dark wood shutters, a small front garden that lay dormant in this winter season, and a paving stone walk to the wooden door, nothing seemed to set the small cottage on the edge of town apart from any others in the area. Nothing that is except that this particular wooden door bore instead of a brass lion head door knocker a gleaming nameplate reading Alexander and Sergei – PI’s. The Victorian style charm continued inside. The main room, which was set aside to make the clients feel welcome, was furnished with a fireplace, dark well polished wooden tables, and lushly upholstered chairs and couches in dark red and golden velvet which seemed to glow in either sunlight or firelight. At the moment festive decorations also adorned the windows and walls as the owners had enjoyed celebrating Christmas. The cottage’s second room was a mixture of old and new…and quite a few things in between. A bit more masculine in décor, one wall was lined with bookshelves while another wall boasted yet another fireplace. Near the fire was a rather well-worn sofa. Near the window was a desk – at least one could assume that there was one somewhere under the pile of items since something had to be holding them up. A bulletin board behind the desk showed pictures of all manners of things from a picture of a little boy holding a balloon shaped like a rocket to a playbill for Phantom of the Opera and a newspaper clipping about an alleged Bigfoot sighting.
A dark haired young man was currently reclining on the sofa, his hazel eyes sparkling as he stared at the computer screen of his laptop. On the end table beside him set a cup of coffee, now lukewarm. There was a smug smile on his face as he clicked the mouse. The chime at the door should have alerted the young man to the entrance of someone, however, he was too deeply involved with his current fascination and never looked up.
A young woman entered the room, her chestnut curls pulled back with a hair scarf. Seeing the young man, she shook her head. “Morning, Alexander.”
Coming out of his seeming trance, the young man looked up. “Hey, Sergei! I got us a new case!” he greeted excitedly.
Dana Sergei regarded her partner a bit closer. “Isn’t that the same shirt you had on yesterday?” she questioned. Her eyes begin scanning the room as she waited on the answer and fell on a plate…on HER work table! And on the plate was…Dana wrinkled her nose, not even having to go any closer to know the item. A half-eaten grilled cheese sandwich, with the cheese that had leaked out now congealed. “Alexander! How many times do I have to tell you to keep your food off my table?” Dana asked. “You spent the night here again.”
William Alexander shrugged. “Yeah, but it was worth it. Look at this!” It didn’t bother the young man in the least to stay at the ‘office’ overnight. Hell, it was cozier than his apartment and neater too…for the most part. Not to mention well equipped considering the back of the cottage housed a kitchen area and a small bathroom.
Sighing, Dana turned back to her partner. She should have learned long ago that telling him not to do things was wasted breath, especially when he had the look in his eyes that he did currently. Fixated, her mother used to say when Dana and Will were in college, and she was right. Once William David Alexander got his mind on a certain project no force on earth could change it. Then again it usually was the forces not associated with earth that had him so single minded to begin with. “What is it?” she asked, stepping closer to view the laptop screen to which Will was animatedly pointing. “Nutsy? What kind of name is that??”
Will rolled his eyes. “Beats having three first names,” he stated, having a lifelong battle with that particular plight. “And he’s a detective. Had a bang up case last year with that famous marmot’s death.”
“You mean Caudata?” Dana asked. “I remember that! So this is the same detective?” She looked at the screen again.
“Yep and this year he needs our help,” Will stated.
Scanning the notice, Dana frowned. “It doesn’t say he needs us specifically. That seems a long way to travel for something plenty of others are going to be answering as well.”
Will gave her a look. “But this could be big. It’s just what Alexander and Sergei need! Come on, Dana. Trust me.” The hazel eyes peered up at her with an excited, hopeful boyish expression.
Looking down into the beseeching puppy dog eyes, Dana felt her resolve crumbling…as it had done time and again since they had met in a forensic class at college. First it was help with homework from the top student in the class (namely Dana), then it was a sounding board for ideas for a club (which never got off the ground), and most recently it had been partnership in a PI agency. Dana sighed and said, “If we’re traveling then I need to pack a bit more and you…need to take a shower and change.”
“That I can do!” Will bounded off the sofa, enveloped Dana in a hug and kissed her cheek. “I love you, you know,” he grinned and headed to start getting ready.
Will had found clothes that he thought might do for a costume considering his character was rather fond of dark colors…at least to the young man’s mind. And considering that Will liked those colors best as well, it worked. Once he’d made his final adjustments, he slipped outside for a look around his new surroundings. The sound a footsteps and the clearing of a throat shortly afterwards had him spinning around and his eyes took in his partner in an appreciative glance. “Hello,Titania,” he said, bowing. “Wilt thou allow thy poor lord Oberon to play escort to thee this night?”
Dana had had problem after problem with her outfit and was still not pleased, but as time was running out and who knew what Will could be getting into when left to his own devices, she hurriedly completed her dressing and went in search of her partner. Spotting several other guests coming and going, Dana took a chance and went outside. Thankfully she soon saw Will’s dark head in the moonlit gardens and made her way toward him. At his look and words, she smiled and played along. “You honor me, Lord Oberon. I wilt do thee the courtesy of my company for these few hours,” she agreed. Sliding her arm through Will's, Dana allowed herself to be led back to the others.
"I'm FREE!" Witchy yells running into a room.
"Free from what?" TerrenaAnimula asks looking up from a book.
"Rainbow Rehab! AND I heard that there is a new Nutsy Adventure. LETS GO!" Witchy says pulling out her rainbow pipe.
"I don't think rehab worked," Lovecraft says walking in. "And my schedule of dueling Trolls and vanquishing Giants is freeing up so a Nutsy Adventure sounds good to me."
Witchy grins as she takes a puff, "They said something about, 'Not being able to fix me and sending me on my way before joining in.'" She shrugs. "I got myself a high dollar premium batch and I am ready to go! Terrena? And where is Fresh? and our Wolfie?"
With the mention of her, Gryffindor walks in with her head down, "I'm sorry guys. I kinda asked someone else to do Nutsy cus I didn't realize you all would want to."
"Its okay," Lovecraft says. "Next time."
"I will miss you my furry Wolfie!" Witchy exclaims as Gryffindor heads out the door.
And as she exits, Fresh rolls in the door. "Think I have to sit this one out," he says putting a fork full of cake into his mouth.
"And this is what happens when we give him cake," TerrenaAnimula says rolling her eyes at him.
"I just couldn't help it!" Fresh yells at them. "Deprived me so long I just lost control. I need a little help out the door." With that a group of LRVT eunichs servants come over and tip fresh over and roll him out the door.

"So what are we going to do being down Fresh, Gryf and who knows where Tea is!" TerrenaAnimula asks.
With that in walks Reaper and heads over to Lovecraft. "My team needs a break from each other, but I want to help. Maybe I can join you guys, Wifey?" She hands Lovecraft a piece of paper.
"Pretty sure that marriage during WS2 wasn't legal," Lovecraft says and opens the paper. "What's this?"
"I had some time," Reaper replied. "Its a list of bears the little girl asked for."
Lovecraft looks over the list and then nods towards Terrena and Witchy. "Reaper bought herself onto the team. New brains!"
"Works for me," TerrenaAnimula says.
Before Witchy can respond, they hear, "YOU GUYS ARE OPENING MEMBERSHIP! I want on!" They turn to see Hollis standing there grinning.
"Why not!" says Witchy.
"Well we need a new name," Lovecraft says. "We aren't really the Silver Legends at the moment.
They all start tossing out a few names that could work, wanting to keep Legends in their title.
"Lost Legends?" TerrenaAnimula suggests.
"Legends of the Lost?" Witchy puffs out some smoke.
"I'm not part of you guys," says a small voice, "But how about a funny pun name like 'Fresh Out of Legends.'"
"Who said that?!" Lovecraft looks around.
"I did," Frieda waves at her.
"Well I like it," Lovecraft says. "Its funny."
"It works," TerrenaAnimula says.
"So we have a name, a group and the first answers are done!" Witchy says. "We are already on a roll," she glances the direction Fresh had been pushed.
Lovecraft leans over to TerrenaAnimula and Witchy, "I don't know, but I am thinking Reaper and Hollis may be spies to try to figure out the Legend ways for their WS teams."
"I don't think anyone could be real spies to you guys," says Reaper. "I have read your adventures, pretty sure you guys just wing it."
"I'd NEVER spy!" Hollis says.
"Besides," Witchy says, "They have both been around us long enough. You pushed Hollis out a window and I think Reaper knows where you have hidden a few bodies."
Not satisfied, but going to drop it Lovecraft just nods. She will watch those two anyway. That is what a warrior does.
"Lets get this show on the road," TerrenaAnimula says, grabbing up her books.
Witchy checks her pouch, "Yup plenty of rainbow! I'm good."
Hollis and Reaper nod in agreement that they are ready to set out.
"Then here goes Fresh Out of Legends," says Lovecraft. "This shall be an experience."
Some time later...
"Well that was some story Arabella spun," Reaper says.
Grabbing her arm, "Oh good!" Witchy exclaims, "You saw her too. Started thinking there was more to my rainbow then advertised.
"Lets go to this ball," Hollis exclaims. "Its been forever since I got to go dancing with some girlfriends."
"I don't think there will be much dancing going on," TerrenaAnimula replies. "But getting ready seems like a plan."
"Dresses!" Lovecraft states. "Always has to have some part with fancy dressing up gowns and stuff!"
"That's my wifey!" Reaper says grinning.
"Okay so Shakespeare garb," Hollis says reading the invite thing. "Any ideas?"
"No clue what any of that stuff is," TerrenaAnimula replies. "Been along time since I had to read any of his works."
"Just pick a character that suits you," Lovecraft says. "I have the perfect one." She wanders off towards wardrobe everyone following behind picking out what they should wear and chatting about it.
After many hours of discussion, the wardrobe looking like a tornado hit it, Fresh Out of Legends is ready to mingle.
"If there is cake at this party," Witchy says letting out a puff of smoke, "Fresh is going to be upset he couldn't make it."

It's a lovely party, but the guests milling in and out doesn't allow you much opportunity to check each one out. You do get an few insights into each of them.
Norman is a slippery fish, oiling his way through the gathering, but always returning to Laurel with one little "suggestion" or another about her future. He's pretty slimy, but otherwise unremarkable. You wonder if he has really ever closed any major deal.
Kimatra and Nigel Demond have a heated exchange of words, but they are careful to move into a corner and keep their voices low. Dang it!
Shortly before Imelda's appearance, Stefanie gazes out the French doors leading into the vinyard maze and thinks she sees a strange glow emanating from a spot near the center. She slides out and takes off into the vines with determination.
Cheval, observing Stefanie's behavior, asks Julian if she can borrow a lantern, and heads out after her, checking each vine as she does so.
You end up having the closest thing to an interview you can manage, a chat with Arlington, who talks about the shuttle tragedy:
"There was something at the time, something about Arthur and the whole trip, some note from one of my ghost-loving regulars, but I didn't note it at the time," he apologizes. "After the tragedy and those pesky curse, the interest in ghost tales has fallen off a bit, so I imagine whatever it was is still in the book," he tells you.
Of course, you immediately ask him for the volume it was in, but he shakes his head sadly. "The library's a busy place, being the only major branch on the asteroid, so I don't remember who was reading what. I can look it all up if you had some idea what you want me to look for."
He explains:
There are five dedicated lovers of ghost stories (Milo, Jackson, Michelle, and two women named Lucy) each have a different favorite tale including Neil Gaiman's The Graveyard Book and Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol. One pair of the ghost lovers are twins with the same last name, but the other three are unrelated. If you can figure out the full name of each reader (one is surnamed Jorgenson), and the novel that each loves, you will jog my memory enough to reveal an important clue. (Or maybe two.)Michelle is an only child. The two men are unrelated; exactly one of them chose a Dickens novel. The reader (whose first name isn't Lucy) who chose Wilkie Collins The Woman in White has the twin. The book chosen by the only reader surnamed Simonovich didn't have "the" anywhere in its title. Four of the five readers are Milo, Ms. Jenkins, the only student surnamed Fong, and the one who chose Shirley Jackson's The Haunting of Hill House. The fifth reader shares either a first name, last name, or choice of author with the person who chose Charles Dickens' The Chimes.
You assure Arlington you'll get right on it, and sit back to enjoy Imelda. Nutsy is clearly already enchanted with her. However, she barely gets out more than a few golden notes when there is a shrill scream outside, followed by Stefanie running in madly.
She gasps for air, and then proclaims, "It's that girl----the promo girl. The g-g-ghost killed her! We found her just inside the maze! C-c-come quickly!"
(OOC: Well, well, well, it appears the plot thickens. Looks like you may need Arlington's clue(s). You have until January 13th, at 11:59 p.m. Subeta time to submit your answer to the logic problem via smail. Scoring for the rest will be up soon--we're trying to be as fair as possible with all the down time. You may ask questions on the OOC thread.)
Looking up in alarm at the noise, Trixie quickly puts down her notebook. "I can't figure out these books and readers anyway, I think I am out of practice!"
With Julian leading, you all rush out into the maze. It's a confusing mass of turns and hedges, but Julian knows every part of the estate, and he leads everyone into the center in record time.
Cheval is bending over Kimatra, but she's been wise enough not to move the body. Inspector Brie asks her to move and then he examines the young woman's body.
"Dead," he nods, "and we don't have to ask how." He shines a light on the corpse and you see that Kimatra has been stabbed in the neck. It's a deep single puncture, but precisely done. There's quite a bit of blood.
"Odd wound, that one," Kandace murmurs.
"Odd weapon," Brie replies. "Looks like it might have been some sort of twisty stiletto. Not sure, though. Let's hope the coroner has a better thought than I do at the moment."
You crane your necks trying to get a better view, but Inspector Brie declares it a crime scene, and herds you all back inside.
As he dials the police station, Arlington also gets a call, and cries out in distress. "The library's been vandalized! I must go!"
"I'm afraid I can't let you leave right now," Brie says. "We've got a murder here. I'll need statements from everyone, starting with you two ladies."
He indicates Cheval and Stephanie, but they claim they were together all the time, hunting the strange light, and that Kimatra was already dead when they stumbled across her body.
Behind you, Arabella appears, looking sad. "I liked Kimatra. She was so pretty, and she helped Mommy. She was whispering to someone. They were talking about Ruby Roman, but I don't know who she is. I never heard the name before. And then Kimatra said, "no, no!" I thought she was going to scream, so I drifted over as fast as I could, but she was already silent when I got there. I can't stay now. I'm not allowed at adult parties." She vanishes.
Kandace reports to the Inspector. "The station will send somebody, and the coroner, but it won't be for some time. They're all tied up with the library disturbance, and there's been five break-ins at or near the student apartments at the university. It's close to the library, so they might be related."
Brie sighs, and regards Nutsy carefully. "Looks like I'm going to need some help. I'll deputize all your detectives. Start interviewing these folks, and we might be able to get everyone out of here before dawn."
(OOC: You may now ask three questions of each of the suspects. Please smail your questions to me by Monday, Jan. 18 at 11:59 pm Subeta time.)
Trixie scribbles some notes down and rips out the page. "Let's split up the room," she says, handing the piece of paper to Bitsy, "I'll take this side, you question everyone over there."
Bitsy takes the other half -- "You got it, hun. The game, as they say, is afoot!"
Everyone sits quietly in the front room of the Grange while the forensic team called in from Nexus Central does its work outside the ballroom.
SPOILER (click to toggle)
Carmen looks distraught. "This should not be happening to Laurel. She has been through too much already. I am in the kitchen for this, so I see and hear nothing, until those screams! Awful! Ms. Parvati is dead? No, no. I have been here since before little Arabella (may she sing among the angels) was born, and it has been always safe!"
Laurel takes Carmen's hand. she is trying for visible control. "I can't imagine how we'll all manage without Kimi. She was a saving grace to me, and this is so unbelievable. Why would anyone want to kill her? She was so sweet, so dear! Maybe this place really is haunted, really cursed."
Julian sits beside her and puts a protective arm around her shoulders. "Maybe all you so-called detectives should be trying to find a murderer instead of asking people about their personal feelings that don't affect the case. Try finding out something important. If the Grange is haunted, so be it. Ghosts don't murder people! And what I do for a living? Isn't it obvious? I'm a handyman, always have been. As to my knowledge of the estate and the maze? When you work somewhere for years, you get to know it. The vineyard's a tangled mess. If I don't lead tourists through it, I have to spend hours searching for them. Oh, and while you're poking about, try to find the corkscrew I won in an auction. It's no good for wine, as it's a twisty mess and it'll cut your fingers, but it looks great, so I put it in the case of antique utensils in the dining room. It's gone, and, as I told the Inspector, it would fit his description of a weapon."
"He's got a point," Norman chimes in. "I think this is a lousy way to run an investigation." Inspector Brie, admiring Lovecraft as usual, raises one eyebrow. Norman does not back down. "Seriously! I've been asked about my motives and what I get out of this so many times it's like hearing stuck music in an elevator. Why does the boss want this property? What part of luxury condos do you now understand? And yes, if I can close a deal I will get a nice, fat commission, maybe a bonus. And no offense, Ms. Pennington, but I have no interest in you other than a sale. For that matter, I have no interest in any of you. You're all stranger, except I hear the boss knows Mr. Demond, and any friend of the boss is a friend of mine. That Ruby Roman chick? The boss has one really hot niece he favors, and if I can get her to look at me, that's all I want, This deal could do it!"
"Oh, I'll tell you who Ruby Roman is!" Denise stands up. She is clearly more than a bit drunk. "Just one of Nigel's floozies! Ask my husband about all the little tarts he picks up. That dead girl was one of the classiest, and he was still angling to get her back. Who cares if they're arguing in from of his wife. I'm the last tart on his dessert list. Ruby Roman? Down to strippers, are you Nigel. Now I know what you did on your last trip to Nexus Central!"
"What about you?" Nigel fires back. "You wanted to come here to help your sister-in-law? Ha. You loathe Laurel, you always have. You heard from Rocknard that he wants this place, and you want to make sure you get a cut of the sale because of your brother. Sure, I said I help as much as I could. I like money, too, and Kimatra has more class dead than you do living. She helped me more than you ever did. For your information, you drunk raver, I don't know Ruby Roman, so bitch away at someone else."
"Calm down, folks, and let's keep it civil," Inspector Brie reminds them.
"Sounds fine to me," answers Nigel Vulpine.
"Of course it does," Imelda smiles not quite sweetly, "You thought it would be a good idea to take Ms. Parvati's offer and come here even though I knew no one."
"She was a good talker, Imelda, and the publicity about the ghosts would have been golden!" Nigel protests.
"Golden! The only listening was that cute little squirrel detective, and his assistants--well, half-listening for them. The others? Everyone left at least once, and those two that headed for the maze? Insulting. I am an artiste! When I sing, you listen, not wander off!"
"Could we keep this short?" Cheval interrupts. "As you can see, Stefanie is still beside herself, and I'm queasy as well. As I've told all of you over and over, I always check out any vineyard. This one is full of irrelevant white grapes. Some variety, but inn desperate need of cultivation, and mediocre even if they were. There was a light in the maze, but we saw no one. There is also quite a bit of bioluminescent moss, which will create foxfire, so I can see why Stefanie thinks she saw a ghost. We saw nothing else, though, until we found Kimatra's body. Julian's right, you would get lost if you didn't know your way and no one led you in."
"It was a ghost, Val," Stefanie rouses herself. "I saw the shadow. A real ghost!I think that's why everyone was drawn outside. I must do some research on ghosts named Ruby...if we were drawn inside so close to the center, she must have wanted to speak to us!"
Kandace reappears with Arlington. The librarian looks exhausted. "No major damage, I am happy to report, Inspector." He says. "Michelle had called the whole group in to help clean up, since it was the paranormal section that was thrown all over, that and horticulture. Whoever it was seemed to be in a hurry, and also tossed around some of the fiction in 'Winter Ghosts' promotional display. Lucy Jenkins said they took the group's favorite books, except for this one." He holds up "The Graveyard Book."
"She took me to task for refiling it under childrens' books. She said it's so much more than that, and that even Arthur Pennington had it last. He thought he might read it to Arabella, but sadly, he had no chance. I found some notes in it, though. Lucy says she didn't write them." He holds them out.
"Let me see them!" Laurel dashes over. "I thought so. They're Arthur's! He always wrote everything in code when he thought it was important. Different code for each note, too. These are his last...." tears form in her eyes. "Inspector, may I have them when you're done?
Inspector Brie nods to her and hands the notes over to you for decoding.
