confused why people are so skeptical about this. you probably have a better chance of getting your credit card information stolen at the grocery store or gas station than you do from this.

I don't blame people for being nervous about their credit cards, but!

  1. If someone manages to steal your iPad, what makes you think that going on Subeta and putting credits into your account is going to be their first priority. If they steal your iPad, they're turning it off and selling it immediately (sorry!)
  2. If someone manages to see your account information page, they can see the last four digits of your credit card number. These are the same digits printed on receipts when you buy anything, and that a person at a cash register has to type in when you purchase from big box stores. Having these displayed is not a security risk.

Again - I understand being skeptical about these kinds of things, but braintree is the leader payment processor (it processes more credit cards than Paypal, hence why paypal bought them ;)) and it takes security very seriously. We ourselves get alerts when braintree things a credit card has been used fraudulently, and can act on that very quickly (including very easily refunding the total amount).

If you have any payment methods saved to Braintree, you can remove them now. The option appears above the CSC amounts on the payments page, in a yellow box. :)

Still working on making sure they don't save by default, as well as giving you an option to explicitly save them.

For now, you can also continue to pay with Stripe. Soon, though, we will be replacing Stripe subscriptions with Braintree, at which point the only Stripe option will be to cancel an existing subscription!

I didn't know that? Why can't we keep Stripe?

what about people that only could pay by cash, before all that went away?

I really like the fact that staff is looking for other ways to pay, but unfortunately it doesn't change anything for me :( I used the pay by cash option, that was removed before, to be able to buy my csc. I don't have a paypal account or a credit card and I don't have the possibilities to go and create/get them, so I can't use any of the options that are on site now. I hope that staff will try and find another option to buy csc with a pay by cash option.

I agree, people who can only pay by cash need a way to get csc, or it wont be fair to them.

I really appreciate that you're putting work into that! :-)

I'm a bit paranoid about saving my payment info anywhere, especially if it's saving by default that I can't stop...

I think I'll wait with my trial purchase until you guys figured this out. :-)

Cheers! Lanara

there are lots of ways to get prepaid cards that you can load with cash. if you live near a walmart, for example, you can get a free american express bluebird card that you can load with cash for free at any walmart. and it works just like any other american express card, except that it's loaded with cash instead of using a line of credit. that's just one example, but there are a lot of options like that.

I hate the fact that when i do buy CSC I dont get my moneys worth because the aussie dollar is worth 72 cents to your dollar. Certainly not your fault but just saying. I miss the old card system Ultimate game card good luck with your system looks like you guys have put a lot of thought into it.

I wish I could go back in time..

Medical records. That's what is targeted nowadays. The credit cards are literally bypassed in a lot of hacks we see currently as the hackers who are actually looking to steal data want personal info more than some card numbers (things like work history, education, past medical conditions, etc. are a much more profitable sell on the black market when coupled with the traditional name, address, social, date of birth, and so on). Further, if a hacker is actually going to take the time to hack your personal computer (or even a public one for that matter - not very likely at all) they're going to be much more interested in issuing something like a fraudulent wire transfer request to your bank to get to your actual money (which likely won't be recovered by the bank or their processor if it isn't caught immediately, even if the institution does make you whole again). I deal with this for a living. Frankly, no professional hacker who sells data is really looking to hack into individual computers to steal credit card numbers. It's not nearly as lucrative as the alternative options, and that would take forever to begin with (not a good use of a hacker's time, so this is really limited to amateur hackers who don't normally know what they're doing and run a high risk of getting caught pretty quickly). Hackers are going large scale these days to get the biggest bang for their buck. As much as we all love Subeta, I really don't think that the pro hackers of the world are all that interested in Subeta's Braintree payment info. x.X

I'm still wondering, and waiting for a staff answer, as to why I cannot pay with the new method using my bank debit Visa card? I keep getting error message and it is VERY frustrating. PLEASE fix this so I can buy csc, dammit. XD

I don't really have strong feeling for this change one way or anything but I do find it amusing that Subeta rolls out this payment option and not more then a day later it's been advertised on over three different websites I frequent. And not like just google ads, they've been sponsored ads that the sites themselves create and endorse in person. Seems Braintree is making a huge push at the moment to become less obscure.

Hmmm... Honestly, I normally don't buy CSC on mobile for safety reasons. And I don't really want to buy CSC on a non-bonus week due to the weak AUD to USD.

I suppose it's a good thing that new payment trials are being used.

: Maybe you could try doing a Google search as to where you can find prepaid cards to purchase in your country?

It took a few days of working with Braintree support to see where exactly we were going wrong, but Braintree will no longer save your payment methods by default. And within the next day or so, you'll have the option to save payment methods explicitly :)
