send some to me! what cut of meat did you use?
I want to go buy some more spices to grow. thinking of getting some paprika peppers to grow. and some cilantro to grow coriander or something like that. maybe cumin too? idk, growing spices seems fun.
I may just not go to that location again, or order the salad, coleslaw or bbq pulled pork sandwhich XD There is about a zillion other things I usually order there that I love
I used a top round london broil. I guess the important part is to use a lean cut as the fat can or will go rancid. I was hoping to find eye of round but the piece I bought was pretty lean, so I guess I'll find out.
This year we plan to only grow herbs and tomatoes. Fresh herbs are easy to grow and fun to have on hand. Oregano, dill and parsley all did good for me last year.
Coleslaw is what gave it to me the first time!! :-P
I think eye of round is pretty easy to find at our grocery. I'd probably use sirloin or strip or something. idk.
I like being able to grow stuff I can use. with herbs and spices you can always dry them out and use them for a long time :)
Copied this from a web page: Top Round Also called London Broil, top round is a lean, tough cut, so it’s best when braised. It’s also a good choice for jerky.
But I looked up sirloin and it's lean too, so would work well also! I think! :-P
Yes! I dry mine too. I either hang them or sometimes dry in the microwave as a lot of heat can cause the herbs to lose flavor.
I cooked rounds as steaks one night, they were not good. I thought I'd try them but they were pretty tough. I guess braising them does make sense. I like sirloin :P
I'd just put them in the dehydrator probably
Yeah I made the mistake of cooking round for dinner too! It seems like I used sirloin last time I made jerky. It's taking forever... :-P
Yup it takes a long time to dry things out. Shouldn't it take a day or so?
The recipe I'm using said 4-6 hours at 150 degrees. I'm using an ancient dehydrator without a thermostat, so I just open the drawers a little when it gets too hot. (I have a thermometer in it) It's been almost 6 hours and not done so now I'm just keeping them closed to push the temp up a little and get it cooked a little faster. LOL! :-P
Ours is really old too. Maybe I'll have to get my own if I get into drying out spices :p
LOL! You're so funny! Did you go grocery shopping yet? Or is that after you pick your gf up?
that happens occasionally if people post at the same time or something. just a glitch.
oh your post was much later, just hadn't gone through yet, probably slow cache or something.
that was yesterday :p
yup I posted first then it showed up. that happens when a staff member posts from their dev. it says they posted but the post won't show up until someone else posted. weird cache issues
I'm dingy enough without help!!! Arrgghhh! :-P
hm I wonder what I'm doing for dinner tonight. and I wish the wind would die down, tired of hearing windchimes :X
You having crazy weather? I don't mind the wind chimes so much, (we have about 3-4) but I hate the sound of the wind whistling through the tree in our front yard.
Front coming through so it has been windy. Drove to pick up my gf at work (waiting for her now) and it was pouring.
I don't mind the rain, it's wind that tires me. We're supposed to have a rainy windy day tomorrow. Ugh
The jerky is done. I should not of rushed it. (let the heat go up to 200) It's a little dry and not sweet enough. Plus, I used red pepper flakes and hubby and I both thought it would be better without them. May try again, but will start it a lot earlier in the morning!
