All of my pets live in different dimensions, and each dimension is it's own little story. Prim lives in Storybooke, the dimension that is written by the "Really Bad Author". The Really Bad Author is a well-meaning, novice writer who, due to her novice writing skills, writes really bad characters. Thus, Prim starts off as a very stereotypical, self-insert, protagonist. She is a beautiful and popular 16 year old who runs a bakery and is nothing but kindness and sweetness. (It's meant to be a satire, haha) The problem is that Prim doesn't really like baking and she's tired of being kind all the time. For once, she'd like to have a real personality.

There is a basic rule to writing, and it is that for every protagonist, there must be an antagonist. The antagonist in Prim's dimension is Ramsey. Prim hasn't actually met Ramsey yet, but she thinks knows all about him. The antagonist in every story by the Really Bad Author is the same after all: some socially awkward loser who wants to TAKE OVER THE WORLD with his ATOMIC FREEZE RAY, or some other bs.

At the beginning of the story, Prim receives a message from the Really Bad Author; the time has come for her to stop the antagonist. The Really Bad Author tells her that Ramsey has created a device that can disrupt the stability of their entire dimension. So, as expected of her, Prim sets off to Ramsey's evil lair to stop him.

When she actually meets Ramsey however, they find that they have more in common than they thought. They both like to travel. They both love to take pictures. They realize that neither of them is anything like what the other expected, and most importantly, the realize that they both hate being the protag/antag. Ramsey then explains that the device he created would actually allow both him and Prim to travel through the dimensions, and hopefully find one where they could actually have real personalities and hobbies. In the end, Prim decides to join Ramsey, and they both leave Storybooke.

The theme of this story is about how we stereotype and judge people based on what societal role they play (such as whether we consider them a protagonist or an antagonist). These roles prevent us from actually connecting with the real person that is behind the role. When Prim and Ramsey discover that they're actually pretty similar, they realize how artificial these roles are. By agreeing to leave Storybooke, they are agreeing to get to know each other as people, rather than as protag/antag.

I just came back to Subeta after a bit of a hiatus, so I need to finish rewriting her story, but otherwise, if you check out Tammie, it's pretty much what Prim will turn out like! Her profile, art, music, and TC items are all supposed to reflect the stereotypical, baker-girl character. I want the person who sees her profile to judge the character by these things, just like how Prim and Ramsey judged each other). and I am working on finishing up her character sheet. :)

[spoiler=Except from Prim/Tammie's Story] In case you're interested, these would be the first 2 paragraphs of Prim's story! :)

Being a protagonist has it's perks, especially when your Author is a terrible writer. Case in point, Tammie Johnson is forever a beautiful 16 year old girl with "silken, mocha locks" that "frame her heart-shaped face". She has "mesmerizing blue orbs" that constantly "sparkle", and her "delicate, bow-shaped mouth" is always the perfect shade of pink. She has the grace of a doe, the charm of a bird, and a temperament as sweet as the treats she bakes for the dear citizens of Storybooke. [P] Like every other protagonist of really badly written stories, she runs a bakery called Tammie's Treats, where her adorable cookies and cakes pop out from her frilly, pink oven with an adorable little "ding!", just in time for her to grab them with her adorably oversized oven mitts. Sometimes, when the author is feeling particularly insipid, she'll have little friendly mice or birds that will help with the baking and who will munch on the treats adorably before bringing them to the guests (because screw hygiene) while a Disney-esque montage song plays in the background.

Siberia is a character in a separate dimension from Prim and Ramsey. In her dimension, the world is split into 2 parts: Heaven, Hell, Earth, and Spirit. Usually, the denizens of each dimension keep to themselves, but occasionally, a monster will escape Hell and try to wreak havoc on one of the other dimensions. Siberia works as the king's priestess. That means that she is one of the most magically capable person in the kingdom, and therefore her job is to protect the kingdom by hunting down these monsters and killing them.

She finds these monsters by using the Oracle Bones. She draws 2 lines into a seal bone, dividing it into 4 parts, with each part representing Heaven, Hell, Earth, or Spirit. She then heats up the bones until they crack, and the cracks form a map locating the monster.

Recently, there have been a lot more monsters escaping Hell than usual. They are also much stronger than the usual monsters. Unbeknownst to Siberia, this is because there is a witch who can travel through dimensions, and who is trying to murder off the protagonist of each dimension. The witch is doing this because without a protagonist, each dimension will collapse, allowing her to absorb it's power to resurrect her dead sister. (Prim and Ramsey are actually the characters that are in charge of stopping her. Thanks to Ramsey's invention, they are the only other characters with the ability to travel through dimensions. They visit the dimensions that she goes to, and they foil her murderous plans. Think something like Doctor Who, lol). Because Siberia is the protagonist of her dimension, the witch has been working with the monsters in Hell to try and get Siberia killed.

When Siberia continues to defeat the monsters, the witch decides to go for another tactic. The kingdom that Siberia lives in is situated in a very cold, icy land. That means that sometimes, in the cases of extremely cold winters, the kingdom runs the risk of famine. At the beginning of the story, the kingdom is suffering the second worst famine on record (extra detail: the worst famine on record was during the year that Siberia was born. She was not expected to survive, but she did, and her name is a testament to her survival). The witch comes into Siberia's dimension bringing food and supplies for the villagers of the kingdom. When they ask her how she manages to have food/supplies during a famine, she lies, and tells them that she has incurred the favor of a new god. She tells them that the reason there is a famine is because the magic that Siberia practices is blasphemy, and the god is angry. If Siberia is not killed, the kingdom will not survive the winter.

Slowly but surely, the people of the kingdom come to believe the witch. They revolt, and there are assassination attempts on both the king and on Siberia. In order to save his own skin, the king publicly denounces Siberia, and sentences her to death. She is able to escape her cell before her execution, and for a while, she lives her life as a wanderer and a hunter for hire.

One day, Prim and Ramsey's machine lands them in Siberia's dimension, and it happens to land them right in front of an escaped monster from Hell. Luckily for them, Siberia was tracking that particular monster, and she manages to save them. Prim and Ramsey ask to hire her on as a bodyguard, and she agrees when she learns that they are trying to take down the witch. Now, she travels with Prim and Ramsey through all the dimensions so that she can hunt down the witch and take revenge.

Her character development arc will be something like this: she had been in love with the king, and after her betrayal by him, she becomes closed off. She's still kind enough on the surface, but she is cautious about developing any closer connections. This is because her singular goal is to become strong enough to defeat the witch, and she believes that any attachment is a risk for everyone, and she doesn't want to risk hers, or anybody elses, life that way. As she travels with Prim and Ramsey however, she develops an older sister relationship to them. She eventually learns that although her relationship with the two of them might put them in danger, they are willing to face that danger in order to protect her, just as she had protected them (as their bodyguard) through their travels. Basically, she learns that friendship means sharing each others problems and getting through them together.

Another theme that will be touched upon in the story is the use of stories/beliefs as a political tool to gain power. I've always thought it was fascinating that throughout history, entire dynasties have been brought down and brutal takeovers have been legitimized by new belief systems, and I think it'd be interesting to write about it in a fictional context (through the witch persuading everyone to murder Siberia) to get readers to question their own belief systems and how it may be used against them.

As mentioned earlier, I just came back to Subeta after a bit of a hiatus (due to college), so a lot of my pets are either in the middle of a re-haul/rename, or they were recently adopted after we got the new slots. If you're interested in seeing my work though, here are some examples of what I do with my pets:

Stories: Rudolph is the best example of my finished writing, although Ramsey is also complete (his profile story is more of a fun little drabble rather than anything serious. The serious story that I'm planning with him and Tammie will be on Tammie's profile). Fabiano is also close to completion. Marissa is more of a summary of an idea rather than a story, but she should give you an idea of some of the concepts I like to explore in my writing. Finally, Eda is an example of my older writing.

Profiles: I am an amateur, but I really enjoy designing/coding my own profiles. This is an example of my most recent profile design. (it needs to be coded, but I figured I'd at least show you the design! :) The Roman numberals at the bottom are going to be anchor links)

Tammie, Ramsey, and Rudolph all have fairly similar profiles.

Ronan and Ramon are somewhat older examples that could use a bit of refreshing, but I thought I'd show them to you anyway as examples of other profile styles that I do.

Growlithe and Sylveon would tie in with Breeder, Pidove, Gulpin and Sliggoo. Sean (Breeder) is a 28 year old day care center employee, who has sort of let his pokemon training slide in favor of breeding. He is very dedicated to his work, and all his pokemon were left in the center by other trainers, with the exception of Sylveon and Sliggoo.

Sylveon Gender: Female Nature: Sassy Level: 13 Ability: Cute Charm Move set: Covet, Draining Kiss, Sand Attack, Swift Held Item: Soothe Bell

I have been stalking eeveelution names since I wanted an eevee to be Sean's first pokemon... and Sylveon is perfect since Sylveon is the friendship eeveelution! Eevee was hatched by Sean's grandmother, and given to him as a birthday present shortly before she died. Sean was fairly devastated, and coddled Eevee, forgoing proper training in favor of treats and games. She evolved at a fairly low level as a result of his spoiling.

Sylveon is a brat. She is bossy and fussy, but utterly devoted to Sean. She picks on the other pokemon, often having to be brought in to check by Sliggoo. She has a begrudging respect for Sliggoo, as she is the only other of Sean's pokemon to have actually evolved. She has a crush on Growlithe, which is evidenced by her being particularly mean to him.

Sylveon's bows have a slightly smaller pink centers, and her ribbons also have thinner pink bands. Her eyes are green. The cap on her head also extends all the way down to her nose.

Growlithe Gender: Male Nature: Quiet Level: 26 Ability: Flash Fire Move set: Ember, Bite, Roar, Flame Wheel Held Item: none

Growlithe is one of my personal favorite pokemon. He was left at the day care center, and after a year he became extremely depressed, and would only lay around, barely eating or doing anything but sleep. Sean did his best to take care of the little guy, gradually earning his trust.

Growlithe is quiet and still quite shy, preferring to run from a fight. That said, if anyone threatens his friends, or Sean, Growlithe is quick to leap to their defense. He is easily cowed, letting Sylveon push him around. He is best friends with Pidove, often letting her perch on his head.

Growlithe is a bit larger than normal, but otherwise has no defining physical differences from a standard Growlithe.

I work really hard on my pets and enjoy every step of the process. Each little bugger has their own inspiration, which I've also shared on my blog. Personally, I'm not one to create elaborate and detailed stories for my pets; I prefer short-and-sweet, happy-go-lucky tales that make me smile!

Have you ever found that, while doing your laundry, you've discovered your socks have gone missing?

Perhaps one, perhaps the whole pair - but low and behold: they've definitely gone missing. You've checked the washer. You've checked the drier. Perhaps you have a pet at home and you've checked if they are the culprit who has stolen your soft footwear.

But the cotton culprit isn't your washer, your drier, or your furry friend.

It's Dixie.

Now, before you get mad at Dixie, it's important to understand that she simply cannot help herself.

You see, Dixie is an orphan.

And she's blind.

And when she takes your socks, she hides them away in her own special hoard. Her own special family is a pile of old socks and she doesn't know any different.

Brook's concept is not as solid as Dixie's. I've been really excited about the Ontra revamp (like everyone else, haha). Especially since watching a documentary on giant river otters who go toe to toe with alligators! When I look at my pets, I have found that I don't have many female characters, so I wanted to create a kick-ass lady. Or in this case, a kick-ass lady otter.

Brook would be fierce and a remarkable member of her clan. She's on top of her game and her skill in wrestling alligators is highly coveted among her kind.

Until she missteps during a brawl and has her tail bitten clean off.

Now, an otter's tail assists in swimming skillfully and is also a sign of beauty among otters. And now Brook, who was once at the top of her game, is now a poor swimmer and considered quite ugly.

And her clan no longer finds her wonderful or extraordinary.

Her story will be about where one's true value lies, whether it be a skill, looks, or one's actual core. I'm gunning for some real character development with this one.

The fairy rings appear in the summer. I love the stories about them. How they're made by tiny, dancing feet of fairies, all holding hands under the moonlight. But some also say that they warn of danger. I think I prefer to think of them as the former. Doom and gloom has no place in summer! Not when the sun is shining, the sky is blue and the birds are singing. The bumblebees tickle my nose with their fluffy little feet, telling me all their adventures from the morning. Collecting pollen and making honey was a serious business, fraught with danger! At least, according to those tiny little bees it was. Silly things, those bumblebees. But I have to admire their workmanship. I hope I work just as diligently as them.
