I wouldn't be opposed to getting to know Jim as ftm and a new cultural NPC as mtf, or even something else under the non-binary umbrella, after reading through this topic.
Looking forward to your plans after the comments section of the ace besties News post. ;)

Personally, I think it's funny that people are opposed to "changing" Jim's backstory when just that was done with Jaxon/Ian. Fleshing out NPC backstories is preferable to introducing new NPCs in my opinion, because it feels less token.
Also, I would really like some sort of official confirmation for pronouns for Quentin in the SubetaPedia, because then users could simply link new players to the page to clear up any misunderstandings. I've seen way too many cases of users deciding to bully someone who doesn't know any better.
Some official confirmation on terms for any transgender characters would be helpful, too, preferably in their SubetaPedia. Some people are fine with FtM, for example, and some prefer other terms. It would be nice if we could avoid users deciding to force their own terminology on others, because that just leads to nastiness. I'm bi, for example, but a lot of people would say that I'm "actually" pan. We should just respect how an individual prefers to be referred to, rather than debate about "correct" terms.
Quentin's Subetapedia article does explicitly use they/them/theirs pronouns for them (as well as saying that Quentin doesn't like to talk about their identity).
However, an even more explicit statement ("Quentin uses the pronouns they/them/theirs"?) at the top of the page would be great.
they/them/theirs, please.
Yeah, I was thinking something like that would help. Other games and whatnot that I've seen with androgynous characters don't actually treat them as nonbinary, just as a "mystery" that the other characters tend to speculate on and players debate about(I mean, there's still debate here, but it's not really encouraged, you know?). Heck, before I joined this site I had no idea that genders other than man/woman existed, so I figured Quentin was one of those types of characters. Now I know, but I figure that other new players might not know, so a more explicit statement about it would be good I think.
As a nonbinary person myself I would definitely be on board and in full support of a more explicit statement, lol
they/them/theirs, please.
I'm going to go ahead and lock this board now - there's been some great response and we have a lot to think about and work with. If anyone has something important to contribute that hasn't already been said, you can still smail me!
