I actually thought the experiment # 886 would be great for the character as I was working on the last sketch, so you've got my backing there.

Now, let's see...

I'm sure it doesn't need to be light blue like the experiment if you don't want it to be, but it looked a bit messy without any colours to seperate the different elements, so I put some temporary ones down. The add-on string is thicker (which makes more sense in relation to the needle!), and I've wound it around the elbows to emulate the stringy things on the experiment. I also kept the cape as a call-out to/replacement of the fins running down its side. The button beret/mask can be moved around as you please, making it more one thing or the other. If you want it as a mask specifically then I've added the option of an eye hole, assuming it relies on sight to get around.

..And I think that covers it for now! Let me know your thoughts! ^^

- Hm...I actually liked the first sketch pose more. I really liked the skinny string (I know it seems logistically wrong with the size of the needle's eye, but I could go with slightly thicker) and the way the bottom portion was spiraled and become part of the torso. The second sketch lost a lot of the thinner/delicate elements that I liked, but I'm becoming more fond of the head shape. I get why you went that way though ^ ^

Is it possible to do the head shape from sketch two (minus the little truft on the back part of the head, the top of the head part is good) onto the body of sketch one? And make the button be slightly smaller. I really like the way you were drawing the top of the head hair/spike/points/whatever things ^ ^

- Oooh, I like that quite a lot actually! With a chibi, do you think too much detail would be lost if we made the needle look more ornate? Like some filigree or something similar on it? I was thinking that their needles could be somewhat like swords that are decorated?

Actually, even though chibis are smaller, they are also pretty exaggerated. With that, the needle will by default be thicker, which would make such details more visible, just less in actual amount. Here:

Hm...choosing appropriate colors is always hard for me with these concepts...

After looking at beautiful cakes and floral arrangements, I think I have an idea! I'm really liking the idea of plum (more on the purple side than red) with darker grays and super muted pinks, maybe lavender that looks silverish? Let me know what you think? :)
