Ah, so it can do both? Great! Thanks for clearing that up~ Glad you like him so far!! Then I'll get back to you when he's done! (: ~
And I'll be looking forward to seeing him in all purdy with the colors on ❤
I would really like to claim a usd slot once it's available. <3 Until it is, I have a couple questions cuz I'm slow like that.
I have never commissioned anyone's art before, so I don't exactly know what I'm doing YET. But I am desperate for pet story inspiration, and I thought that if maybe I had overlays for my pets it would be easier to get an idea as to what kind of story I want to write.
Question though.. Erm, what exactly is a floof/quad? Like I see the examples you provided, but I don't understand what you mean by those.
Sorry for being naive. ;o; I'm new to this whole thing.
;;
Hey! Thanks for your interest! Don't worry - it's not as difficult as it looks. (:
Have you thought about designs for your pets/characters? That can be a bit tricky if you don't have stories for them, but then again having the visuals first might help - as you said - but it's good to at least have some keywords in mind (especially if you're not sticking to the standard subeta pet designs!).
A 'floof' is sort of my version of a chibi, I suppose - a small, cutesy rendering of a character. A 'quad' is just a normal, fullbody rendering of a character - though these have to be animals or something of the sort, not people ('quad' generally points to four-legged animals like cats/dogs etc., but I use it for pretty much anything non-human with a pulse, ha-ha). Floofs are drawn on smaller canvases than quads, and quads are generally supposed to be more work that floofs.
Oh, and never apologise about asking for clarification - it's extremely important in life that you can reach out to people when there's something you don't understand, and you should never feel guilty about that. Some might scoff in response, but that's their problem, not yours. If you let yourself get scared to ask questions it will have a negative effect on your growth. Don't - even if it's awkward sometimes. At the end of the day you'll always be better off with less uncertainty weighing on your shoulders. (:
Thank you. That response of yours was really nice. C: I tend to always apologize about things without thinking about it. Kinda just how I grew up, I suppose.
I mean, I have personalities and rough outlines for each of my pets/characters. It's just the motivation part I have issues with. Usually inspiration helps to jump start that. The first pet I was going to request you to design is the one I actually have a complete story for, actually. I also have a "kind of" reference to go with it, or more so what my pet inspires from originally.
I'm just not sure how it'll end up turning out in the end. xD
;;
(: I'm the same way, which I suppose is why it's so important to me. No need to make life tougher than it already is, you know?
I definitely see that. Out of curiosity - have you ever tried making moodboards/inspiration collages for your characters? If you're a visual person it might help a lot (I do it all the time - both with characters & projects in general). Just collect a bunch of pictures you associate with your character based on keywords/colours/what feels right, then stuff them together in a collage maker. The end result should be good to get the creative juices flowing, as well as a handy reference for the 'feel' of your oc. ~
Anyway, I've worked with quite a few 'designless' pets in the past, so in practice I can sketch something up based on your initial ideas, and then we tweak that until you're satisfied. I generally need some kind of ref if you have something specific in mind (animal species/body type, fur colour(s), markings etc.), but beyond that the work can be very fluid.
The whole process probably sounds a bit abstract in written word, but it's not really that hard - it just takes a lot of active communication. (:
Yeah, that's what I like most about commissioning people - the communicationl
And I have never thought to make a moodboard/inspiration collage before, honestly. I'll have to definitely try it, but i may use pinterest for something like that. :P
I guess what I feel uncomfortable about is the free reign I have when it comes to what kind of piece I'm looking for. Mostly because I'm more of a "big picture" kind of person, ya know? I mostly use symbolism and such to describe whatever is going on in my mind, so that's what my art request may consist of.
...I was just about to apologize for something silly like spamming your thread with all my questions and essay length responses but never mind. :X This extended conversation is fairly relevant, right? xD
;;
There's no spamming going on that I can see! What we're discussing is highly relevant. It's sort of like when one asks questions in class that might seem like too much out loud, but really there are others who are wondering the same things but are a bit more afraid to ask. That way clearing things up will always be useful - for the person asking in the first place, for the one who has to work out an answer thus expanding their own understanding of the basis of the question, and the lurkers who might see & gain from it as well.
As for your symbolism - that's how I communicate as well (which often makes face-to-face conversations a bit awkward, as most people aren't too comfortable/good at keeping up with my metaphores, ha-ha;;;~). The main trick to this is to just start describing - even if it gets lengthy, or one has to work around the image to get a clear, 360 degree idea. It's easier to sift through a bunch of information & filter out the core ideas than to work from two keywords & a vague image. I'd definitely recommend that whatever you have in your head, open a text document (or find pen & paper if you prefer), spill it all out - literally, everything - and then when you're done you can start to look at what you're 'really' saying. It's much easier when you've got it in front of you in writing. Filter through as best you can, and then we can work through what's left. (And keep both the original file/paper + a new one with the more concentrated content so that you can cross-reference and/or go back to your original idea if you feel like you're getting lost or overthinking it!)
Moodboards/inspiration collages are a great way to organise the abstract concepts & images in your head, honestly. And if pinterest is your preference I say go for it! What's important is that you create a visual anchor that also acts as a trigger for creativity, character description & exploration, and thereby a deeper understanding of the character/'s story. You'll definitely learn a lot from it. You can also make different mood boards/collages/collections for different phases of your character's life/their story, or different sides of their personality. Where does that take you? How do these pieces interact/fit together within one being? It's suprising how much a character will tell you if you just give them the freedom to do so. ~
- Gah! Forgive me but forgetting about my little blob flower!! I'm really happy with the lighter colours and it blends better with the profile! :)
I APPRECIATE YOU <3 my new form is below, thanks!!

Character Name/Ref: Sapphires -- reference x -- something like this, curled around a pile of sapphires? I know it's not my ref, or design, so feel completely free to take artistic charge. She's just a fluffy white dragon with blue eyes! If you need more details, I can write it out. I just chose these characters because they're simple and I'm still trying to sort out my sleep schedule (I was awake for about 29 hours straight with my stomach bug) and I wanted to get you something quickly. Style: Painted floof Personality/Pose Suggestion/Other Info: She's like a cat guarding a random toy. Big eyes, relaxed but totally ready to claw your face if you attempt to take the toy (her sapphires) from her. Free / Square Canvas: I'd like to use this as an overlay, so preferably square! Character Name/Ref: Brother ref Outfit Not Found -- please feel free to make it more masc (I don't own pants in white, so give him pants) and please feel free to simplify. I hope this is a decent enough ref. I tried to fiddle with it, but I'm useless lol. Just let me know if you need more edits and I'll dive deeper into the CW spectrum, as on-site items don't seem to work, but CWs have weird-ass names. A robe would also work for the bottom half Style: painted floof Personality/Pose Suggestion/Other Info: Haughty angel dickbag but only in the name of 'good' and 'god'. I'm going to turn him into an angelic legicia. Free / Square Canvas: Free or square, whichever works for you! Preview?: Please! sP / CSC / USD: USD
I know these aren't super great references, but I wanted to give you something sooner rather than later. If you have more time and want more references then just let me know and I can try and put something more apt together.
I dunno, I'm just here trynna get my stuff together after being so sick.
;;
I think we're more than even "orz
Thank you so much for your patience & everything! I hope summer is treating you well & will continue to do so!! ~
;;
(I am a cactus and your appreciation is water droplets from above)
Your turtle is such a cutie ❤️ I'll play with the sketch tipping both towards floof & quad, and then you can see what you prefer in the preview?
Anyway the village etc. is extra detail, but I'm sure you already figured that vv:
Will get back to you when I've got something sketched out!
;;
Those refs are fine - no problem! (Also that dragon is 1000% the kind of thing I used to draw 90% of the time when I was younger (does that make me sound old?); I love & miss them).
That said, between the prop[s] in # 1 & design in # 2 these both fall under the extra detail fee, which is +$1.50 per piece for floofs (so +$3, $27 total for both), just so you know. (:
Also, I'm sorry you've been so unwell. Hope life treats you gently so that you can get back on your feet & feel physically comfortable again asap!
No worries at all! The dragon is an ooold OC. I had art of her somewhere from years ago, but it's pretty outdated anyway. I really cannot draw very well, but seeing as I could grab the name Sapphires, I kinda had to preserve her. Eventually I'll find the right name for her rider lol
Ahh I'm glad you like the idea :> that sounds great to me, thanks so much!! <3
I know your progress is a little slow right now but I'm fine with that. I have another pet that needs some art (previous commission from another artist for it fell through), so I'd like to use that 2nd usd slot I have available for another one ❤
Character Name/Ref: Ornas Style: Painted floof Personality/Pose Suggestion/Other Info: For pose see ref. As for personality well, he very much has the personality of a cat. He's the center of the universe and he loves attention ;) Free / Square Canvas: Free Preview?: Y sP / CSC / USD: USD
E-mail*: same as in previous form
- Thanks again Core <3 I'd do a lot better if summer wasn't always a time where I had to have some damned surgery. Just hand a tiny little basal cell carcinoma removed from my skin. The stitch part took more time than removing the damned cancer :/
;;
Hey! Written you up for the second one - thanks!
this little kitty went to cloud nine...: sketch!

(Turns out I drew it the other way & forgot that I had flipped the canvas "orz)
Again, extra detail, but again - you probably guessed. :'d Let me know what you think / if I forgot anything!
;;
Oh no! That sucks; I'm sorry. ): At least it's gone now? Please be careful in the summer sun!!
Aw, he's so cute! I love it ^_^ And yes I guessed it with the extra details ;) I can't see anything missing so you're all good :)
;;
Super! Then I'll finish both your boys up together. ~ Will get right back to you when they're done!
Awesome! I'll be looking forward to seeing them both ❤
