Yes, it is a hard thing to stay away from, that is for sure! I almost wish I'd never started... I bet I would have spent more energy on my pets if I hadn't. I just realized one day, that it made me happy -- and even if it was only happiness that lasted a year or however long, it didn't matter because I was made happy by it. So I decided to just enjoy it and stop punishing myself for enjoying little meaningless things (like prettily arranged pixles... lol) that make me happy. I applied the same principle to other areas in my life and now practice leaning into each joy-filled moment instead of worrying what others might think or judge about my joy (or in what I find joyful).

I fully agree that a part of you always knows the right way to completely fulfillment of the inner-self. I always hope to bring myself closer to that center of fulfillment every day, even if it is just a tiny step, all steps forward matter. Thank you for your kind words of encouragement, it's all so true what you said.
