I work at Starbucks currently, and I'm probably going to stick with it for awhile. The benefits are worth the insane customers.

I've just finished grad school and am applying for research jobs (Biology), but during my studies I supported myself by working as a runner/trainee for a film company, as a retail assistant in a museum shop, as a translator, as a private tutor for high school students, as maternity/illness cover for a variety of secretary/office jobs, and as a TA at university. I'm looking forward to having one job with semi-regular hours, rather than several with an odd patchwork of them.
I love the diversity of careers and occupations!

It turns out it's complicated getting enough hours when you have to be in the lab most of the time. Preferentially I'd do teaching, but that stops over the summer and half-term holidays, so I'd need to find other short-term jobs to plug the gap until lectures/labs start again...
Yep, I hear ya. Summer can be a relief and stressful if you work according to a school calendar. I'm finding that out right now. =/
