Aw, that's awesome! Horses are so cute. There's so many companion animals on here, it's adorable. The quests are pretty cool, and they're definitely a good way to make money. There's a widget for them actually, it'll show you all of them and links directly to the quests so you don't have to go traipsing all over the map to find them all!
Yes horses are fab :D Mine's only small, but I love him to bits <3

Where do you find backgrounds and animals for your avatar?

Welcome to you too! There are a large range of animals and backgrounds available - you can find some in user shops, check out the Human Avatar forums for advise (users have put together a couple of lists for such things), or user SubetaLodge as below or use the 'view all on Subeta' option in your wardrobe!
Make sure you look up prices before you get too attached to any item though, as some are super rare/expensive, whilst others are extremely affordable.
