I would like to think that staff is smart enough to use the siteupdate ping group when they update the site to correct a bug.
Apparently not though...
I agree that a ping group would be a great solution. That way the news page wouldn't get clogged up, but people can still see when staff is actively trying to fix/improve the site.
I agree, a ping group is needed...not that they'd use it. Honestly people in the bugs and feedback forum still haven't received confirmation that the continuing NPC shop problems are being looked at. It's been over a week of only 1-2 rows of stock and 30 minutes between restocks and the only thing we've gotten is on one thread "We're looking at it but everything seems fine"
Major bugs like this don't even get acknowledgement by staff anymore other than minimods. So while I love the idea of a ping group...I just don't see them actually telling us anything.
Yes wow, a ping group for bugs would be awesome, because if you want to see it, then you can opt-in. If not, then just don't join the group.
There is still no real communication from the programmers on things like this, and it really doesn't say much for the site. :c
So, the reason you don't really see staff posting on bug reports is because we have a system where-by and myself (and occasionally UA's) create tasks for the programmers offsite.
We do try to make a post in every report that gets moved over, but it doesn't always happen, and I apologize.
I certainly wouldn't mind working with a new ping group, but as previously mentioned it might be difficult to determine what a "major" bug is. Also, is it really necessary to bring 100's of users attention to something that has yet to even inconvenience them? 9/10 times when a group of users gets pinged to a bug thread (in the bug forum, site feedback, or suggestions), it turns into a bunch of essentially useless posts and pings that we then have to wade through.
Typically when a major bug is (or several bugs are) fixed a thread in site updates is made. Many times bugs work themselves out or were just user errors all along.
As far as the lists not being updated... I do apologize. They can be very time consuming to keep updated, and often feels pointless (do people actually READ them?).
Just as frustrating it might be to not hear from a staff member, also consider that often players make reports which lack real detail, and then never respond to them. Destiny and I TEST bugs before we make a report to the programmers, so when players completely ignore our posts asking for more information because we can't replicate their issue, we can lose motivation; even more so when the player recreates their thread, with no further information except "STILL NOT FIXED!!!!!!".
and I love suggestions, so please never hesitate to give them, or to ask questions! Part of the reason the forum isn't as neat and organized as I would personally like is simply because I start working and then wonder if my work is even worth the effort, if it's even helpful, if anyone is even going to notice. So please let us know what you think. As a general reminder, the necro rule does NOT apply in the bug forum, so you are welcome to make an update on any bug report there (in fact, we'd love you to, so we know that it's still an issue and can poke a programmer without having to set aside time to try and test it ourselves).
I do, if that makes you feel any better. :P
Unfortunately, it feels that way from our perspective too sometimes. And I seem to remember a few times where new reports were made and then locked, and the OPs were referred to the huge list threads.
Here's an idea though: what if you used those list threads as hubs to link to individual report threads? Because the way it is now, you end up with people talking about 10 different bugs in one place, talking over each other and muddling the discussion.
It might make things a little easier on both sides. :D

But yes I support this, or at least a siteupdate ping to a thread that mentions it or something - for the bigger bugs, I mean.
This is what we're trying to do now... using them more as a directory. It means more threads, but it makes things less confusing for talking to players, and allows us to use the ping all option more :)
From a PR perspective, they're not going to announce bugs in the news. People thinking about signing up for the site can see the news, and since that's probably a popular page for possible new players to view, the staff isn't going to full it with lists of issues with the site, since there are wayyyy too many. It would look so bad.
