We knew that the Islander and Pirate shops were going to suck (the prices when they were in RWP sucked too). already pointed out something I posted a few times in the SB/news comments -- the pirate/islander shops had prices at such a large range that really no matter what RWP to SP ratio we used, some items were going to get the short stick. We've learned a lot since then as far as pricing event/plot items. Something like the Reading Drive will be a lot easier because a lot of those items are below 80 points minus a few weapon-y things at 225. You won't see such dramatic jumps in prices when we add that store just because of that pretty close range!
One of the things and I agreed to before we sat down to figure out the ratio was that we weren't going to make any "special cases", everything from a particular plot would follow the same ratio and we weren't going to leave any items out.
and I crunched soooo many numbers for this, and the price point ended up being almost identical to the price that many of the items were selling for. I was all ready to duke it out with her over the pricing and it kept working so well. Here are a couple examples I found from our chat logs:
Purple Hibiscus Barrette 350 points/27.5 mil in shops. This is now sold for 26.25 mil. Angrybeards Recipes For Avoiding Scurvy 750 points/ONE in shops for 50 mil. This is now sold for 56.25 mil.
There were some outliers, sure, but we didn't want to have different price points. Some of the pricing disparities were due to the fact that some of these items HAD already been brought back by the Hustler, so they weren't "accurate" like the rest of the items were. The weapons were originally not even going to be included, but the battle admins thought the pricing was fair enough that a few might go out to hardcore collectors, but would not saturate the market or totally screw people who did bust their humps getting them. It was either that pricing scheme or not at all for weapons.
This was designed as a way to help people finish their collections (though we did tweak after the feedback so other items could get out too, thankfully). It works out to also be an sP sink which is great, but that wasn't the intention. I think lowering the prices might actually suck more sP out, but we wanted to be fair to everyone--those who had worked for these and those who just never had the chance and still needed them.
Like most things, the intention isn't for everyone to be able to buy everything. If you needed a few things to fill out a collection, you can work on that over time and get there. Lots of these items weren't even available for sale at all, some had a dozen or so on-site. There wasn't a way to please everyone but this pricing scale worked out pretty well for the majority of items. As Amber said, it should work out better for other shops with smaller ranges. We'll tweak each ratio as need be, it isn't going to just be a uniform 75k across the board.
FWIW it's taken well over 2 bil off site so far. Again, not the full on purpose of this, but people are definitely buying.
Just want to point out that that's if you are buying the books full price! Books are a part of the half off direct to collection. :x
It's a great concept, though! GET DEALS ON THINGS TO FINISH COLLECTIONS AND YOU DON'T EVEN HAVE TO USE YOUR INVENTORY. perf for the lazy person (like me)
There are newer users that make quite a bit of sP every day though. It’s not super difficult to make sP (selling wizard tokens can get you quite a bit and they aren’t hard to make especially on wizard weekend). I’ve posted this quite a bit but I’ll say it again — we picked two very difficult shops to start the Antique shop with. The pirate and islander items had such a large range when it came to their points that it was going to suck no matter what ratio we used from RWP to sP. I’m pretty sure RWP were going for like 50k per point after the plot ( do you remember how much they were going for IT’S BEEN SO LONG and i didn’t sell my points haha).
Again, we’ve done a lot better at pricing plot/event items since the Islander vs Pirates plot, so when we put them in the antiques shop they won’t have such price jumps between items (because like just in the pirate shop you had things for 20 points and 500 and then 750 and then like 2000).
All plot items will eventually make their way to the shop! I'm thinking we might do Reading Drive next and then Cruise or EPICon. Plus of course some of the older stuff from even before the Pirate vs Islander! :x
Yeah, I think the two plots before were Keith vs Cyde (wow super old) and Blackmoon vs Sebastian haha. We don’t have a set thing where like every other week we’ll add something. We have to figure out what ratio we want to use for things, test to make sure everything works right, make sure we get every item from said plot/event. :x Ideally, I'd like to get a lot of them done this year between holidays/during lull parts.
MAYBE THIS MONTH IS BATTLE MONTH. MAYBE THEY ARE ALL BATTLE MONTH. (I also need so many things from the reading drive shop for pets lskjdf ngl i'm excited to be able to get some things from EPICon later that I didn't have enough points for back in the day)
Keith and the BAs are working on some stuff for battling right now! Something about scrolls AND NO REFRESHING ON PAGES I REALLY LIKE THAT. and hey we brought back old challengers this month SO YAY
But yeah, there are so many great prizes in these shops and I usually start off strong in plots (like turning books in and like restock wars) but then I get lazy and regret it when prizes come out :x
